Malachi
Chapter 1
1:1The burden of the word of YHWH to Israel by the ministry of Malachi.
1:2I have loved you, saysYHWH:yet you say, In what have you loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother, saysYHWH? Yet I loved Jacob,
1:3And I hated Esau, and made his mountains waste, and his heritage a wilderness for dragons.
1:4Though Edom say, we are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places, yet saysYHWH of hosts, they shall build, but I will destroy it,and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and the people, with whom YHWH is angry forever.
1:5And your eyes shall see it,and you shall say, YHWH will be magnified upon the border of Israel.
1:6A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I be a father, where is my honor? And if I be a master, where is my fear, saysYHWH of hosts to you, O Priests, that despise my Name? And you say, In what have we despised your Name?
1:7You offer unclean bread upon my altar, and you say, In what have we polluted you? In that you say the table of YHWH is not to be regarded.
1:8And if you offer the blind for sacrifice, it is not evil:and if you offer the lame and sick, it is not evil:offer it now to your prince:will he be content with you, or accept your person, saysYHWH of hosts?
1:9And now, please, implore El,that he may be gracious to us:this has been by your means:will he regard your persons, saysYHWH of hosts?
1:10Who is there even among you, that would shut the doors? And kindle not fire on my altar in vain, I have no pleasure in you, saysYHWH of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
1:11For from the rising of the sun to the going down of the same, my Name is great among the Gentiles, and in every place incense shall be offered to my Name, and a pure offering:for my Name is great among the heathen, saysYHWH of hosts.
1:12But you have polluted it, in that you say, The table of Adonai is polluted and the fruit of it, even his food is not to be regarded.
1:13You said also, Behold, it is a weariness, and you have snuffed at it, saysYHWH of hosts, and you offered that which was torn, and the lame and the sick:thus you offered an offering:should I accept this of your hand, saysYHWH?
1:14But cursed be the deceiver, which has in his flock a male, and vows, and sacrifices to Adonai a corrupt thing:for I am a great King, saysYHWH of hosts, and my Name is terrible among the heathen.
Chapter 2
2:1And now, O the Priests, this commandment is for you.
2:2If you will not hear it, nor consider it in your heart, to give glory to my Name, saysYHWH of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you,and will curse your blessings:yes, I have cursed them already, because you do not consider it in your heart.
2:3Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and cast dung upon your faces, even the dung of your appointed feasts, and you shall be like to it.
2:4And you shall know, that I have sent this commandment to you, that my covenant, which I made with Levi, might stand, saysYHWH of hosts.
2:5My covenant was with him of life and peace, and I gave him fear, and he feared me,and was afraid before my Name.
2:6The law of truth was in his mouth, and there was no iniquity found in his lips:he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.
2:7For the Priests lips should preserve knowledge, and they should seek the Law at his mouth:for he is the messenger of YHWH of hosts.
2:8But you are gone out of the way:you have caused many to fall by the Law:you have broken the covenant of Levi, saysYHWH of hosts.
2:9Therefore have I also made you to be despised, and vile before all the people, because you kept not my ways, but have been partial in the Law.
2:10Have we not all one father? Has not one El made us? Why do we transgress every one against his brother, and break the covenant of our fathers?
2:11Judah has transgressed, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem:for Judah has defiled the holiness of YHWH, who he loved, and has married the daughter of a strange El.
2:12YHWH will cut off the man that does this:both the master and the servant out of the Tabernacle of Jacob, and him that offers an offering to YHWH of hosts.
2:13And this have you done again, and covered the altar of YHWH with tears, with weeping and with mourning:because the offering is no more regarded, neither received acceptably at your hands.
2:14Yet you say, In what? Because YHWH has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have transgressed:yet is she your companion, and the wife of your covenant.
2:15And did not he make one? Yet had he abundance of spirit:and why one? Because he sought a godly seed:therefore keep yourselves in your spirit, and let none trespass against the wife of his youth.
2:16If you hate her, put her away, saysYHWH Elohim of Israel, yet he covers the injury under his garment, saysYHWH of hosts:therefore keep yourselves in your spirit, and transgress not.
2:17You have wearied YHWH with your words:yet you say, In what have we wearied him? When you say, Every one that does evil, is good in the sight of YHWH,and he delights in them. Or where is the Elohim of judgment?
Chapter 3
3:1Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me:and YHWH whom you seek, shall suddenly come to his Temple:even the messenger of the covenant whom you desire:behold, he shall come, saysthe Lord of hosts.
3:2But who may abide the day of his coming? And who shall endure, when he appears? For he is like a purging fire, and like fullers soap.
3:3And he shall sit down to try and fine the silver:he shall even fine the sons of Levi and purify them as gold and silver, that they may bring offerings to YHWH in righteousness.
3:4Then shall the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem be acceptable to YHWH, as in old time and in the years before.
3:5And I will come near to you to judgment, and I will be a swift witness against the soothsayers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that wrongfully keep back the hirelings wages, and vex the widow, and the fatherless, and oppress the stranger, and fear not me, saysYHWH of hosts.
3:6For I am YHWH:I change not,and the sons of Jacob are not consumed.
3:7From the days of your fathers, you are gone away from my ordinances, and have not kept them:return to me,and I will return to you, saysYHWH of hosts:but you said, In what shall we return?
3:8Will a man spoil his gods? Yet have you spoiled me:but you say, In what have we spoiled you? In tithes, and offerings.
3:9You are cursed with a curse:for you have spoiled me, even this whole nation.
3:10Bring you all the tithes into the storehouse that there may be meat in my House, and test me now in this, saysYHWH of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven to you,and pour you out a blessing without measure.
3:11And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruit of your ground, neither shall your vine be bear in the field, saysYHWH of hosts.
3:12And all nations shall call you blessed:for you shall be a pleasant land, saysYHWH of hosts.
3:13Your words have been stout against me, saysYHWH:yet you say, What have we spoken against you?
3:14You have said, It is in vain to serve Elohim:and what profit is it that we have kept his commandment, and that we walked humbly before YHWH of hosts?
3:15Therefore we count the proud blessed:even they that work wickedness, are set up,and they that tempt Elohim, yes, they are delivered.
3:16Then they spoke that feared YHWH, every one to his neighbor, and YHWH listened and heard it,and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared YHWH,and that thought upon his Name.
3:17And they shall be to me, saysYHWH of hosts, in that day that I shall do this, for a flock, and I will spare them, as a man spares his own son that serves him.
3:18Then shall you return, and discern between the righteous and wicked, between him that serves Elohim, and him that serves him not.
3:19For behold, the day comes that shall burn as an oven, and all the proud, yes,and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble, and the day that comes, shall burn them up, saysYHWH of hosts, and shall leave them neither root nor branch.
3:20But to you that fear my Name, shall the sun of righteousness arise, and health shall be under his wings, and you shall go forth, and grow up as fat calves.
3:21And you shall tread down the wicked:for they shall be dust under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saysYHWH of hosts.
3:22Remember the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel with the statutes and judgments.
3:23Behold, I will send you Elijah the Prophet before the coming of the great and fearful day of YHWH.
3:24And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with cursing.
