Luke
Chapter 1
1:1Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth the story of those things, of what we are fully persuaded,
1:2As they have delivered them to us, which from the beginning saw them their selves, and were ministers of the word,
1:3It seemed good also to me (most noble Theophilus) as soon as I had searched out perfectly all things from the beginning, to write to you of it from point to point,
1:4That you might acknowledge the certainty of those things, of what you have been instructed.
1:5In the time of Herod King of Judea, there was a certain Priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abijah:and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
1:6Both were just before Theos, and walked in all the commandments and ordinances of the Kyrios, without reproof.
1:7And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren:and both were well stricken in age.
1:8And it came to pass, as he executed the Priests office before Theos, as his course came in order,
1:9According to the custom of the Priests office, his lot was to burn incense, when he went into the Temple of the Kyrios.
1:10And the whole multitude of the people were without in prayer, while the incense was burning.
1:11Then appeared to him an Angel of the Kyrios standing at the right side of the altar of incense.
1:12And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
1:13But the Angel said to him, Fear not, Zacharias:for your supplication is heard, and your wife Elisabeth shall bear you a son,and you shall call his name John.
1:14And you shall have joy and gladness, and many shall rejoice at his birth.
1:15For he shall be great in the sight of the Kyrios, and shall neither drink wine, nor strong drink:and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.
1:16And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to their Kyrios Theos.
1:17For he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just men, to make ready a people prepared for the Kyrios.
1:18Then Zacharias said to the Angel, By what shall I know this? For I am an old man,and my wife is of a great age.
1:19And the Angel answered, and said to him, I am Gabriel that stand in the presence of Theos, and am sent to speak to you,and to show you these good tidings.
1:20And behold, you shall be dumb, and not be able to speak, until the day that these things be done, because you believed not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
1:21Now the people waited for Zacharias, and marveled that he stayed so long in the Temple.
1:22And when he came out, he could not speak to them:then they perceived that he had seen a vision in the Temple:For he made signs to them, and remained dumb.
1:23And it came to pass, when the days of his office were fulfilled, that he departed to his own house.
1:24And after those days, his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
1:25Thus has the Kyrios dealt with me, in the days in which he looked on me, to take from me my rebuke among men.
1:26And in the sixth month, the Angel Gabriel was sent from Theos to a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
1:27To a virgin affianced to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgins name was Mary.
1:28And the Angel went in to her,and said, Are you that are freely beloved:the Kyrios is with you:blessed are you among women.
1:29And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and thought what manner of salutation that should be.
1:30Then the Angel said to her, Fear not, Mary:for you have found favor with Theos.
1:31For lo, you shall conceive in your womb, and bear a son,and shall call his name Jesus.
1:32He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the most High, and the Kyrios Theos shall give to him the throne of his father David.
1:33And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom shall be no end.
1:34Then said Mary to the Angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not man?
1:35And the Angel answered, and said to her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon you,and the power of the most High shall overshadow you:therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of you, shall be called the Son of Theos.
1:36And behold, your cousin Elisabeth, she has also conceived a son in her old age:and this is her sixth month, which was called barren.
1:37For with Theos shall nothing be impossible.
1:38Then Mary said, Behold the servant of the Kyrios:be it to me according to your word. So the Angel departed from her.
1:39And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste to a city of Judah,
1:40And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.
1:41And it came to pass, as Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe sprang in her belly, and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
1:42And she cried with a loud voice, and said, Blessed are you among women, because the fruit of your womb is blessed.
1:43And from where comes this to me,that the mother of my Kyrios should come to me?
1:44For lo, as soon as the voice of your salutation sounded in my ears, the babe sprang in my belly for joy,
1:45And blessed is she that believed:for those things shall be performed, which were told her from the Kyrios.
1:46Then Mary said, My psyche magnifies the Kyrios,
1:47And my spirit rejoices in Theos my Savior.
1:48For he has looked on the poor degree of his servant:for behold, from now on shall all ages call me blessed,
1:49Because he that is mighty, has done for me great things, and holy is his Name.
1:50And his eleos is from generation to generation on them that fear him.
1:51He has showed strength with his arm:he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
1:52He has put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
1:53He has filled the hungry with good things, and sent away the rich empty.
1:54He has upheld Israel his servant to be mindful of his eleos
1:55(As he has spoken to our fathers, namely, to Abraham, and his seed) forever.
1:56And Mary abode with her about three months:after, she returned to her own house.
1:57Now Elisabeth's time was fulfilled, that she should be delivered, and she brought forth a son.
1:58And her neighbors, and cousins heard tell how the Kyrios had showed his great eleos upon her,and they rejoiced with her.
1:59And it was so that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the babe, and called him Zacharias after the name of his father.
1:60But his mother answered, and said, Not so,but he shall be called John.
1:61And they said to her, There is none of your kindred, that is named with this name.
1:62Then they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
1:63So he asked for writing tables, and wrote, saying, His name is John, and they marveled all.
1:64And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue, and he spoke and praised Theos.
1:65Then fear came on all them that dwelt near to them, and all these words were spread abroad throughout all the hill country of Judea.
1:66And all they that heard them, laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner child shall this be! And the hand of the Kyrios was with him.
1:67Then his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,
1:68Blessed be the Kyrios Theos of Israel, because he has visited and redeemed his people,
1:69And has raised up the horn of salvation to us, in the house of his servant David,
1:70As he spoke by the mouth of his holy Prophets, who were since the world began, saying,
1:71That he would send us deliverance from our enemies, and from the hands of all that hate us,
1:72That he might show eleos toward our fathers, and remember his holy covenant,
1:73And the oath which he swore to our father Abraham.
1:74Which was, that he would grant to us,that we being delivered out of the hands of our enemies, should serve him without fear,
1:75All the days of our life, in holiness and righteousness before him.
1:76And you, babe, shall be called the Prophet of the most High:for you shall go before the face of the Kyrios, to prepare his ways,
1:77And to give knowledge of salvation to his people, by the remission of their sins,
1:78Through the bowels of eleos of our Theos, whereby the day spring from a high has visited us,
1:79To give light to them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
1:80And the child grew, and became strong in spirit, and was in the wilderness, till the day came that he should show himself to Israel.
Chapter 2
2:1And it came to pass in those days, that there came a decree from Augustus Caesar, that all the world should be taxed.
2:2(This first taxing was made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.)
2:3Therefore went all to be taxed, every man to his own City.
2:4And Joseph also went up from Galilee out of a city called Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem (because he was of the house and lineage of David,)
2:5To be taxed with Mary that was given him to wife, which was with child.
2:6And so it was, that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered,
2:7And she brought forth her firstborn son,and wrapped him in cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
2:8And there were in the same country shepherds, abiding in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.
2:9And lo, the Angel of the Kyrios came upon them, and the glory of the Kyrios shone about them, and they were sore afraid.
2:10Then the Angel said to them, Be not afraid:for behold, I bring you glad tidings of great joy, that shall be to all the people,
2:11That is,that to you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, which is Christos the Kyrios.
2:12And this shall be a sign to you, You shall find the babe wrapped in cloths, and laid in a manger.
2:13And suddenly there was with the Angel a multitude of heavenly soldiers, praising Theos, and saying,
2:14Glory be to Theos in the high heavens, and peace in earth, and toward men good will.
2:15And it came to pass when the Angels were gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said one to another, Let us go then to Bethlehem, and see this thing that is come to pass which the Kyrios has made known to us.
2:16So they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe laid in the manger.
2:17And when they had seen it, they published abroad the thing, that was told them of that child.
2:18And all that heard it, were at the things which were told them of the shepherds.
2:19But Mary kept all those sayings, and pondered them in her heart.
2:20And the shepherds returned glorifying and praising Theos, for all that they had heard and seen as it was spoken to them.
2:21And when the eight days were accomplished, that they should circumcise the child, his name was then called Jesus, who was named of the Angel, before he was conceived in the womb.
2:22And when the days of their purification after the Law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Kyrios,
2:23(As it is written in the Law of the Kyrios, Every man child that first opens the womb, shall be called holy to the Kyrios)
2:24And to give an oblation, as it is commanded in the Law of the Kyrios, a pair of turtle doves, or two young pigeons.
2:25And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon:this man was just, and feared God,and waited for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
2:26And it was declared to him from God by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Christos of the Kyrios.
2:27And he came by the motion of the spirit into the Temple, and when the parents brought in the babe Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the Law,
2:28Then he took him in his arms, and praised Theos, and said,
2:29Lord, now let you your servant depart in peace, according to your word,
2:30For my eyes have seen your salvation,
2:31Which you have prepared before the face of all people,
2:32A light to be revealed to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.
2:33And Joseph and his mother marveled at those things, which were spoken touching him.
2:34And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be spoken against,
2:35(Yes and a sword shall pierce through your psyche) that the thoughts of many hearts may be opened.
2:36And there was a Prophetess, one Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, which was of a great age, after she had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity:
2:37And she was widow about four score and four years, and went not out of the Temple, but served God with fastings and supplications, night and day.
2:38She then coming at the same instant upon them, confessed likewise the Kyrios, and spoke of him to all that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
2:39And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Kyrios, they returned into Galilee to their own city Nazareth.
2:40And the child grew, and became strong in spirit, and was filled with wisdom, and the grace of Theos was with him.
2:41Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year, at the Feast of the Passover.
2:42And when he was twelve year old,and they were come up to Jerusalem, after the custom of the feast,
2:43And had finished the days of it, as they returned, the child Jesus remained in Jerusalem, and Joseph knew not, nor his mother,
2:44But they supposing, that he had been in the company, went a days journey, and sought him among their relatives, and acquaintance.
2:45And when they found him not, they turned back to Jerusalem, and sought him.
2:46And it came to pass three days after, that they found him in the Temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions:
2:47And all that heard him, were astonished at his understanding and answers.
2:48So when they saw him, they were amazed, and his mother said to him, Son, why have you thus dealt with us? Behold, your father and I have sought you with very heavy hearts.
2:49Then he said to them, How is it that you sought me? Knew you not that I must go about my Fathers business?
2:50But they understood not the word that he spoke to them.
2:51Then he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them:and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
2:52And Jesus increased in wisdom, and stature, and in favor with Theos and men.
Chapter 3
3:1Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being Tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip Tetrarch of Iturea, and of the country of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the Tetrarch of Abilene,
3:2(When Annas and Caiaphas were the high Priests) the word of Theos came to John, the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
3:3And he came into all the coasts about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins,
3:4As it is written in the book of the sayings of Isaiah the Prophet, who says, The voice of him that cries in the wilderness is, Prepare the way of the Kyrios:make his paths straight.
3:5Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low,and crooked things shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth.
3:6And all flesh shall see the salvation of Theos.
3:7Then he said to the people that were come out to be baptized by him, O generations of vipers, who has forewarned you to flee from the wrath to come?
3:8Bring forth therefore fruits worthy amendment of life, and begin not to say with yourselves, We have Abraham to our father:for I say to you, that Theos is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.
3:9Now also is the axe laid to the root of the trees:therefore every tree which brings not forth good fruit, shall be hewn down, and cast into the fire.
3:10Then the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?
3:11And he answered, and said to them, He that has two coats, let him part with him that has none:and he that has meat, let him do likewise.
3:12Then came there tax collectors also to be baptized, and said to him, Master, what shall we do?
3:13And he said to them, Require no more than that which is appointed to you.
3:14The soldiers likewise asked of him, saying,And what shall we do? And he said to them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely, and be content with your wages.
3:15As the people waited, and all men mused in their hearts of John, if he were not that Christos,
3:16John answered, and said to them all, indeed I baptize you with water, but one stronger than I, comes, whose shoe strap I am not worthy to loose:he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire.
3:17Whose fan is in his hand, and he will make clean his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner, but the chaff will he burn up with fire that never shall be quenched.
3:18Thus then exhorting with many other things, he preached to the people.
3:19But when Herod the Tetrarch was rebuked of him,for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,
3:20He added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.
3:21Now it came to pass, as all the people were baptized, and that Jesus was baptized and did pray, that the heaven was opened:
3:22And the Holy Spirit came down in a bodily shape like a dove, upon him,and there was a voice from heaven, saying, You are my beloved Son:in you I am well pleased.
3:23And Jesus himself began to be about thirty year of age, being as men supposed the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,
3:24The son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph,
3:25The son of Mattathiah, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai,
3:26The son of Maath, the son of Mattathiah, the son of Semein, the son of Joseph, the son of Judah,
3:27The son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Salathiel, the son of Neri,
3:28The son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmadam, the son of Er,
3:29The son of Jose, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi,
3:30The son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim,
3:31The son of Melea, the son of Mainan, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,
3:32The son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon,
3:33The son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah,
3:34The son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,
3:35The son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Sala,
3:36The son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,
3:37The son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan,
3:38The son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of Theos.
Chapter 4
4:1And Jesus full of the Holy Spirit returned from Jordan, and was led by that Spirit into the wilderness,
4:2And was there forty days tempted of Diabolos, and in those days he did eat nothing:but when they were ended, he afterward was hungry.
4:3Then Diabolos said to him, If you be the Son of Theos, command this stone that it be made bread.
4:4But Jesus answered him, saying, It is written,That man shall not live by bread only, but by every word of Theos.
4:5Then Diabolos took him up into a high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, in the taking of an eye.
4:6And Diabolos said to him, All this power will I give you,and the glory of those kingdoms:for that is delivered to me:and to whomever I will, I give it.
4:7If you therefore will worship me, they shall be all yours.
4:8But Jesus answered him,and said, From here from me, Satanas:for it is written, You shall worship the Kyrios your Theos, and him alone you shall serve.
4:9Then he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the Temple, and said to him, If you be the Son of Theos, cast yourself down from here,
4:10For it is written,That he will give his Angels charge over you to keep you:
4:11And with their hands they shall lift you up,lest at any time you should dash your foot against a stone.
4:12And Jesus answered, and said to him, It is said, You shall not tempt the Kyrios your Theos.
4:13And when Diabolos had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a little season.
4:14And Jesus returned by the power of the spirit into Galilee:and there went a fame of him throughout all the region round about.
4:15For he taught in their Synagogues, and was honored of all men.
4:16And he came to Nazareth where he had been brought up,and (as his custom was) went into the Synagogue on the Sabbath day,and stood up to read.
4:17And there was delivered to him the book of the Prophet Isaiah:and when he had opened the book, he found the place, where it was written,
4:18The Spirit of the Kyrios is upon me, because he has anointed me,that I should preach the Gospel to the poor:he has sent me,that I should heal the broken hearted, that I should preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, that I should set at liberty them that are bruised:
4:19And that I should preach the acceptable year of the Kyrios.
4:20And he closed the book, and gave it again to the minister, and sat down:and the eyes of all that were in the Synagogue were fastened on him.
4:21Then he began to say to them, This day is the Scripture fulfilled in your ears.
4:22And all bore him witness, and wondered at the gracious words, which proceeded out of his mouth, and said, Is not this Joseph's son?
4:23Then he said to them, You will surely say to me this proverb, Physician, heal yourself:whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do it here likewise in your own country.
4:24And he said, Assuredly I say to you, No Prophet is accepted in his own country.
4:25But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when heaven was shut three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land:
4:26But to none of them was Elias sent, save into Zarephath, a city of Sidon, to a certain widow.
4:27Also many lepers were in Israel, in the time of Elisha the Prophet:yet none of them was made clean, saving Naaman the Syrian.
4:28Then all that were in the Synagogue, when they heard it, were filled with wrath,
4:29And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him to the edge of the hill, on which their city was built, to cast him down headlong.
4:30But he passed through the midst of them, and went his way,
4:31And came down into Capernaum a city of Galilee, and there taught them on the Sabbath days.
4:32And they were astonished at his doctrine:for his word was with authority.
4:33And in the Synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon, which cried with a loud voice,
4:34Saying, Oh, what have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Are you come to destroy us? I know who you are, even the Holy One of Theos.
4:35And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold your peace, and come out of him. Then the demon throwing him in the midst of them, came out of him,and hurt him nothing at all.
4:36So fear came on them all,and they spoke among themselves, saying, What thing is this:for with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out?
4:37And the fame of him spread abroad throughout all the places of the country round about.
4:38And he rose up,and came out of the Synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wives mother was taken with a great fever, and they asked him concerning her.
4:39Then he stood over her,and rebuked the fever, and it left her,and immediately she arose, and ministered to them.
4:40Now at the sun setting, all they that had sick folks of diverse diseases, brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
4:41And demons also came out of many, crying, and saying, You are that Christos that Son of Theos:but he rebuked them, and suffered them not to say that they knew him to be that Christos.
4:42And when it was day, he departed, and went forth into a deserted place, and the people sought him,and came to him,and kept him that he should not depart from them.
4:43But he said to them, Surely I must also preach the kingdom of Theos to other cities:for therefore am I sent.
4:44And he preached in the Synagogues of Galilee.
Chapter 5
5:1Then it came to pass, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of Theos, that he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
5:2And saw two ships stand by the lake side, but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
5:3And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's,and asked him that he would thrust off a little from the land:and he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
5:4Now when he had left speaking, he said to Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets to make a catch.
5:5Then Simon answered, and said to him, Master, we have toiled hard all night, and have taken nothing:nevertheless at your word I will let down the net.
5:6And when they had so done, they enclosed a great multitude of fish, so that their net broke.
5:7And they beckoned to their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them, who came then, and filled both the ships, that they did sink.
5:8Now when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus knees, saying, Kyrios, go from me:for I am a sinful man.
5:9For he was utterly astonished, and all that were with him,for the catch of fish which they took.
5:10And so was also James and John the sons of Zebedee, which were companions with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, Fear not:from now on you shall catch men.
5:11And when they had brought the ships to land, they forsook all,and followed him.
5:12Now it came to pass, as he was in a certain city, behold, there was a man full of leprosy, and when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face, and implored him, saying, Kyrios, if you will, you can make me clean.
5:13So he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will, be clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.
5:14And he commanded him that he should tell it no man:but Go, says he,and show yourself to the Priest, and offer for your cleansing, as Moses has commanded, for a witness to them.
5:15But so much more went there a fame abroad of him,and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed of him of their infirmities.
5:16But he kept himself apart in the wilderness, and prayed.
5:17And it came to pass, on a certain day, as he was teaching, that the Pharisees and doctors of the Law sat by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judea, and Jerusalem, and the power of the Kyrios was in him to heal them.
5:18Then behold, men brought a man lying in a bed, which was taken with a palsy, and they sought means to bring him in,and to lay him before him.
5:19And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in, because of the press, they went up on the house, and let him down through the tiling, bed and all, in the midst before Jesus.
5:20And when he saw their faith, he said to him, Man, your sins are forgiven you.
5:21Then the Scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this that speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but Theos only?
5:22But when Jesus perceived their reasoning, he answered, and said to them, Why do you reason in your hearts?
5:23Whether is easier to say, Your sins are forgiven you, or to say, Rise and walk?
5:24But that you may know that the Son of man has authority to forgive sins in earth, (he said to the sick of the palsy) I say to you, Arise:take up your bed,and go to your house.
5:25And immediately he rose up before them, and took up his bed on which he lay, and departed to his own house, praising Theos.
5:26And they were all amazed, and praised Theos, and were filled with fear, saying, Doubtless we have seen strange things today.
5:27And after that, he went forth and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax office, and said to him, Follow me.
5:28And he left all, rose up,and followed him.
5:29Then Levi made him a great feast in his own house, where there was a great company of tax collectors, and of other that sat at table with them.
5:30But they that were Scribes and Pharisees among them, murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?
5:31Then Jesus answered, and said to them, They that are whole, need not the Physician, but they that are sick.
5:32I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
5:33Then they said to him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make supplications, and the disciples of the Pharisees also, but yours eat and drink?
5:34And he said to them, Can you make the children of the wedding chamber to fast, as long as the bridegroom is with them?
5:35But the days will come, even when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them:then shall they fast in those days.
5:36Again he spoke also to them a parable, No man puts a piece of a new garment into an old vesture:for then the new rents it,and the piece taken out of the new, makes not with the old.
5:37Also no man pours new wine into old vessels: for then the new wine will break the vessels, and it will run out, and the vessels will perish:
5:38But new wine must be poured into new vessels:so both are preserved.
5:39Also no man that drinks old wine, immediately desires new:for he says, The old is more profitable.
Chapter 6
6:1And it came to pass on a second solemn Sabbath, that he went through the grain fields, and his disciples plucked the ears of grain, and did eat,and rub them in their hands.
6:2And certain of the Pharisees said to them, Why do you that which is not lawful to do on the Sabbath days?
6:3Then Jesus answered them, and said, Have you not read this, that David did when he himself was hungry, and they who were with him,
6:4How he went into the house of Theos, and took, and ate the showbread, and gave also to them which were with him, which was not lawful to eat,but for the Priests only?
6:5And he said to them, The Son of man is Kyrios also of the Sabbath day.
6:6It came to pass also on another Sabbath, that he entered into the Synagogue, and taught, and there was a man, whose right hand was dried up.
6:7And the Scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the Sabbath day, that they might find an accusation against him.
6:8But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, Arise, and stand up in the midst. And he arose, and stood up.
6:9Then said Jesus to them, I will ask you a question, Whether is it lawful on the Sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? To save psyche, or to destroy?
6:10And he beheld them all in compass, and said to the man, Stretch forth your hand. And he did so,and his hand was restored again, as whole as the other.
6:11Then they were filled full of madness, and communed one with another, what they might do to Jesus.
6:12And it came to pass in those days, that he went into a mountain to pray, and spent the night in prayer to Theos.
6:13And when it was day, he called his disciples, and of them he chose twelve which also he called Apostles.
6:14(Simon whom he named also Peter, and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew:
6:15Matthew and Thomas:James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zealot,
6:16Judas James' brother, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.)
6:17Then he came down with them, and stood in a plain place, with the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judea, and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him,and to be healed of their diseases:
6:18And they that were vexed with unclean spirits, and they were healed.
6:19And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went power out of him, and healed them all.
6:20And he lifted up his eyes upon his disciples, and said, Blessed be the poor:for yours is the kingdom of Theos.
6:21Blessed are you that hunger now:for you shall be satisfied:blessed are you that weep now:for you shall laugh.
6:22Blessed are you when men hate you,and when they separate you,and revile you,and put out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
6:23Rejoice you in that day,and be glad:for behold, your reward is great in heaven:for after this manner their fathers did to the Prophets.
6:24But woe be to you that are rich:for you have received your consolation.
6:25Woe be to you that are full:for you shall hunger. Woe be to you that now laugh:for you shall mourn and weep.
6:26Woe be to you when all men speak well of you:for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
6:27But I say to you which hear, Love your enemies:do well to them which hate you.
6:28Bless them that curse you,and pray for them which hurt you.
6:29And to him that smites you on the one cheek, offer also the other:and him that takes away your cloak, forbid not to take your coat also.
6:30Give to every man that asks of you:and of him that takes away the things that be yours, ask them not again.
6:31And as you would that men should do to you, so do you to them likewise.
6:32For if you love them which love you, what thank shall you have? For even the sinners love those that love them.
6:33And if you do good for them which do good for you, what thank shall you have? For even the sinners do the same.
6:34And if you lend to them of whom you hope to receive, what thank shall you have? For even the sinners lend to sinners, to receive the like.
6:35Therefore love you your enemies, and do good, and lend, looking for nothing again, and your reward shall be great, and you shall be the children of the most High:for he is kind to the unkind, and to the evil.
6:36Be you therefore compassionate, as your Father also is compassionate.
6:37Judge not,and you shall not be judged:condemn not,and you shall not be condemned:forgive, and you shall be forgiven.
6:38Give,and it shall be given to you:a good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over shall men give into your bosom:for with what measure you mete, with the same shall men mete to you again.
6:39And he spoke a parable to them, Can the blind lead the blind? Shall they not both fall into the ditch?
6:40The disciple is not above his master:but whoever will be a perfect disciple, shall be as his master.
6:41And why do you see a speck in your brother's eye,and consider not the beam that is in your own eye?
6:42Either how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me pull out the speck that is in your eye, when you see not the beam that is in your own eye? Hypocrite, cast out the beam out of your own eye first, and then shall you see, perfectly to pull out the speck that is in your brother's eye.
6:43For it is not a good tree that brings forth evil fruit:neither an evil tree, that brings forth good fruit.
6:44For every tree is known by his own fruit:for neither of thorns gather men figs, nor of bushes gather they grapes.
6:45A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good, and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil:for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
6:46But why do you call me Kyrios, Kyrios, and do not the things that I speak?
6:47Whoever comes to me,and hears my words, and does the same, I will show you to whom he is like:
6:48He is like a man who built a house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the waters arose, the flood beat upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
6:49But he that hears and does not, is like a man that built a house upon the earth without foundation, against which the flood did beat, and it fell by and by:and the fall of that house was great.
Chapter 7
7:1When he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
7:2And a certain Centurion's servant was sick and ready to die, which was dear to him.
7:3And when he heard of Jesus, he sent to him the Elders of the Jews, imploring him that he would come, and heal his servant.
7:4So they came to Jesus, and implored him instantly, saying that he was worthy that he should do this for him:
7:5For he loves, said they, our nation, and he has built us a Synagogue.
7:6Then Jesus went with them:but when he was now not far from the house, the Centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, Kyrios, trouble not yourself:for I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof:
7:7Therefore I thought not myself worthy to come to you:but say the word, and my servant shall be whole:
7:8For I likewise am a man set under authority, and have under me soldiers, and I say to one, Go,and he goes:and to another, Come, and he comes:and to my servant, Do this, and he does it.
7:9When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him,and turned him,and said to the people, that followed him, I say to you, I have not found so great faith, no not in Israel.
7:10And when they that were sent, turned back to the house, they found the servant that was sick, whole.
7:11And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain, and many of his disciples went with him,and a great multitude.
7:12Now when he came near to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, who was the only begotten son of his mother, who was a widow, and much people of the city was with her.
7:13And when the Kyrios saw her, he had compassion on her,and said to her, Weep not.
7:14And he went and touched the coffin (and they that bore him, stood still) and he said, Young man, I say to you, Arise.
7:15And he that was dead, sat up,and began to speak, and he delivered him to his mother.
7:16Then there came a fear on them all,and they glorified Theos, saying, A great Prophet is risen among us,and Theos has visited his people.
7:17And this report of him went forth throughout all Judea, and throughout all the region round about.
7:18And the disciples of John showed him of all these things.
7:19So John called to him two certain men of his disciples, and sent them to Jesus, saying, Are you he that should come, or shall we wait for another?
7:20And when the men were come to him, they said, John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, Are you he that should come, or shall we wait for another?
7:21And at that time, he cured many of their sicknesses, and plagues, and of evil spirits, and to many blind men he gave sight freely.
7:22And Jesus answered, and said to them, Go your ways and show John, what things you have seen and heard:that the blind see, the halt go, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor receive the Gospel.
7:23And blessed is he,that shall not be offended in me.
7:24And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak to the people, of John, What went you out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
7:25But what went you out to see? A man clothed in soft clothing? Behold, they who are gorgeously appareled, and live delicately, are in Kings courts.
7:26But what went you forth to see? A Prophet? Yes, I say to you,and greater than a Prophet.
7:27This is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before your face, which shall prepare your way before you.
7:28For I say to you, there is no greater Prophet than John, among them that are born of women:nevertheless, he that is the least in the kingdom of Theos, is greater than he.
7:29Then all the people that heard, and the tax collectors justified Theos, being baptized with John's baptism.
7:30But the Pharisees and the expounders of the Law despised the counsel of Theos against themselves, and were not baptized by him.
7:31And the Kyrios said, To what shall I liken the men of this generation? And what thing are they like to?
7:32They are like to little children sitting in the market place, and crying one to another, and saying, We have piped to you,and you have not dance:we have mourned to you,and you have not wept.
7:33For John the Baptist came, neither eating bread, nor drinking wine:and you say, He has the demon.
7:34The Son of man is come, and eats and drinks:and you say, Behold, a man who is a glutton, and a drinker of wine, a friend of tax collectors and sinners:
7:35But wisdom is justified of all her children.
7:36And one of the Pharisees asked him that he would eat with him: and he went into the Pharisee's house, and reclined at table.
7:37And behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus reclined at table in the Pharisee's house, she brought a box of ointment.
7:38And she stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
7:39Now when the Pharisee who invited him, saw it, he spoke within himself, saying, If this man were a Prophet, he would surely have known who,and what manner of woman this is which touches him:for she is a sinner.
7:40And Jesus answered, and said to him, Simon, I have somewhat to say to you. And he said, Master, say on.
7:41There was a certain lender which had two debtors:the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty:
7:42When they had nothing to pay, he forgave them both:Which of them therefore, tell me, will love him most?
7:43Simon answered, and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said to him, You have truly judged.
7:44Then he turned to the woman, and said to Simon, See you this woman? I entered into your house, and you gave me no water to my feet:but she has washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
7:45You gave me no kiss:but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss my feet.
7:46My head with oil you did not anoint:but she has anointed my feet with ointment.
7:47Therefore I say to you, many sins are forgiven her:for she loved much. To whom a little is forgiven, he does love a little.
7:48And he said to her, Your sins are forgiven you.
7:49And they that reclined at table with him, began to say within themselves, Who is this that even forgives sins?
7:50And he said to the woman, Your faith has saved you:go in peace.
Chapter 8
8:1And it came to pass afterward, that he himself went through every city and town, preaching and publishing the kingdom of Theos, and the twelve were with him,
8:2And certain women, who were healed of evil spirits, and infirmities, as Mary which was called Magdalene, out of whom went seven demons,
8:3And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many other which ministered to him of their substance.
8:4Now when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of all cities, he spoke by a parable.
8:5A sower went out to sow his seed, and as he sowed, some fell by the wayside, and it was trampled under feet, and the fowls of heaven devoured it up.
8:6And some fell on the stones, and when it was sprang up, it withered away, because it lacked moistness.
8:7And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it,and choked it.
8:8And some fell on good ground, and sprang up,and bore fruit, a hundred fold. And as he said these things, he cried, He that has ears to hear, let him hear.
8:9Then his disciples asked him, saying what parable that was.
8:10And he said, To you it is given to know the secrets of the kingdom of Theos, but to other in parables, that when they see, they should not see,and when they hear, they should not understand.
8:11The parable is this, The seed is the word of Theos.
8:12And they that are beside the way, are they that hear:afterward comes Diabolos, and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe, and be saved.
8:13But they that are on the stones, are they who when they have heard, receive the word with joy:but they have no roots:which for a while believe, but in the time of temptation go away.
8:14And that which fell among thorns, are they who have heard, and after their departure are choked with cares and with riches, and voluptuous living, and bring forth no fruit.
8:15But that which fell in good ground, are they who with an honest and good heart hear the word, and keep it,and bring forth fruit with patience.
8:16No man when he has lighted a candle, covers it under a vessel, neither puts it under the bed,but sets it on a candlestick, that they that enter in, may see the light.
8:17For nothing is secret, that shall not be evident:neither anything hid, that shall not be known, and come to light.
8:18Take heed therefore how you hear:for whoever has, to him shall be given:and whoever has not, from him shall be taken even that which it seems that he has.
8:19Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come near to him for the press.
8:20And it was told him by certain which said, Your mother and your brethren stand without, and would see you.
8:21But he answered, and said to them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of Theos, and do it.
8:22And it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples, and he said to them, Let us go over to the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.
8:23And as they sailed, he fell a sleep, and there came down a storm of wind on the lake, and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.
8:24Then they went to him,and awoke him, saying, Master, Master, we perish. And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and the waves of water:and they ceased, and it was calm.
8:25Then he said to them, Where is your faith? And they feared, and wondered among themselves, saying, Who is this that commands both the winds and water, and they obey him!
8:26So they sailed to the region of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee.
8:27And as he went out to land, there met him a certain man out of the city, which had demons long time, and he wore no garment, neither abode in house, but in the graves.
8:28And when he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him,and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with you, Jesus the Son of Theos the most High? I beseech you, torment me not.
8:29For he commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man:(for oftentimes he had caught him:therefore he was bound with chains, and kept in fetters:but he broke the bands, and was carried by the demon into wilderness.)
8:30Then Jesus asked him, saying, What is your name? And he said, Legion, because many demons were entered into him.
8:31And they implored him, that he would not command them to go out into the deep.
8:32And there was there by, a herd of many swine, feeding on a hill:and the devils implored him, that he would suffer them to enter into them. So he suffered them.
8:33Then went the demons out of the man,and entered into the swine:and the herd was carried with violence from a steep down place into the lake, and was choked.
8:34When the herdsmen saw what was done, they fled:and when they were departed, they told it in the city and in the country.
8:35Then they came out to see what was done, and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the demons were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind:and they were afraid.
8:36They also which saw it, told them by what means he that had been demonized, was healed.
8:37Then the whole multitude of the country about the Gadarenes, implored him that he would depart from them:for they were taken with a great fear:and he went into the ship, and returned.
8:38Then the man, out of whom the demons were departed, implored him that he might be with him:but Jesus sent him away, saying,
8:39Return into your own house, and show what great things Theos has done to you. So he went his way,and preached throughout all the city, what great things Jesus had done to him.
8:40And it came to pass, when Jesus was come again, that the people received him:for they all waited for him.
8:41And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was the ruler of the Synagogue, who fell down at Jesus feet, and implored him that he would come into his house.
8:42For he had but a daughter only, about twelve years of age,and she lay a dying (and as he went, the people thronged him.
8:43And a woman having an issue of blood, twelve years long, which had spent all her substance upon physicians, and could not be healed of any:
8:44When she came behind him, she touched the hem of his garment, and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
8:45Then Jesus said, Who is it that has touched me? When every man denied, Peter said and they that were with him, Master, the multitude thrust you,and tread on you,and say, Who has touched me?
8:46And Jesus said, Some one has touched me: for I perceive that power is gone out of me.
8:47When the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and fell down before him,and told him before all the people, for what cause she had touched him,and how she was healed immediately.
8:48And he said to her, Daughter, be of good comfort:your faith has saved you:go in peace.)
8:49While he yet spoke, there came one from the ruler of the Synagogue's house, which said to him, Your daughter is dead: disease not the Master.
8:50When Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not:believe only, and she shall be saved.
8:51And when he went into the house, he suffered no man to go in with him, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and mother of the maid.
8:52And all wept, and sorrowed for her:but he said, Weep not:for she is not dead, but sleeps.
8:53And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.
8:54So he thrust them all out,and took her by the hand, and cried, saying, Maid, arise.
8:55And her spirit came again, and she rose immediately:and he commanded that something be given her to eat.
8:56Then her parents were astonished:but he commanded them that they should tell no man what was done.
Chapter 9
9:1Then called he his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to heal diseases.
9:2And he sent them forth to preach the kingdom of Theos, and to cure the sick.
9:3And he said to them, Take nothing to your journey, neither staves, nor bag, neither bread, nor silver, neither have two coats apiece.
9:4And whatever house you enter into, there abide, and from there depart.
9:5And how many so ever will not receive you, when you go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.
9:6And they went out,and went through every town preaching the Gospel, and healing everywhere.
9:7Now Herod the Tetrarch heard of all that was done by him:and he done, because that it was said of some, that John was risen again from the dead:
9:8And of some, that Elias had appeared:and of some, that one of the old Prophets was risen again.
9:9Then Herod said, John have I beheaded:who then is this of whom I hear such things? And he sought to see him.
9:10And when the Apostles returned, they told him what great things they had done. Then he took them to him,and went aside into a solitary place, near to the city called Bethsaida.
9:11But when the people knew it, they followed him:and he received them, and spoke to them of the kingdom of Theos, and healed them that had need to be healed.
9:12And when the day began to wear away, the twelve came, and said to him, Send the people away, that they may go into the towns and villages round about, and lodge, and get meat:for we are here in a deserted place.
9:13But he said to them, You give them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fish, except we should go and buy meat for all this people.
9:14For they were about five thousand men. Then he said to his disciples, Cause them to sit down by fifties in a company.
9:15And they did so,and caused all to sit down.
9:16Then he took the five loaves, and the two fish, and looked up to heaven, and blessed them, and broke, and gave to the disciples, to set before the people.
9:17So they did all eat,and were satisfied:and there was taken up of that remained to them, twelve baskets full of broken meat.
9:18And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him:and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?
9:19They answered, and said, John the Baptist:and others say, Elias:and some say, that one of the old Prophets is risen again.
9:20And he said to them,But whom do you say that I am? Peter answered, and said,That Christos of Theos.
9:21And he warned and commanded them, that they should tell that to no man,
9:22Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things and be reproved of the Elders, and of the high Priests and Scribes, and be slain, and the third day rise again.
9:23And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
9:24For whoever will save his psyche, shall lose it:and whoever shall lose his psyche for my sake, the same shall save it.
9:25For what advantages it a man, if he win the whole world, and destroy himself, or lose himself?
9:26For whoever shall be ashamed of me,and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his glory, and in the glory of the Father, and of the holy Angels.
9:27And I tell you of a surety, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of Theos.
9:28And it came to pass about an eight days after those words, that he took Peter and John, and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.
9:29And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was changed, and his garment was white and glistered.
9:30And behold, two men talked with him, which were Moses and Elias:
9:31Which appeared in glory, and told of his departing, which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.
9:32But Peter and they that were with him, were heavy with sleep, and when they awoke, they saw his glory, and the two men standing with him.
9:33And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here:let us therefore make three tabernacles, one for you,and one for Moses, and one for Elias, and knew not what he said.
9:34While he thus spoke, there came a cloud and overshadowed them, and they feared when they were entering into the cloud.
9:35And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is that my beloved Son, hear him.
9:36And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone:and they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.
9:37And it came to pass on the next day, as they came down from the mountain, much people met him.
9:38And behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech you, behold my son:for he is all that I have.
9:39And lo, a spirit takes him,and suddenly he cries, and he tears him, that he foams, and hardly departs from him, when he has bruised him.
9:40Now I have implored your disciples to cast him out,but they could not.
9:41Then Jesus answered, and said, O generation faithless, and crooked, how long now shall I be with you,and suffer you? Bring your son here.
9:42And while he was yet coming, the demon rent him,and tare him:and Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him to his father.
9:43And they were all amazed at the mighty power of Theos:and while they all wondered at all things, which Jesus did, he said to his disciples,
9:44Put these words into your ears: for it shall come to pass, that the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.
9:45But they understood not that word:for it was hid from them, so that they could not perceive it:and they feared to ask him of that word.
9:46Then there arose a disputation among them, which of them should be the greatest.
9:47When Jesus saw the thoughts of their hearts, he took a little child, and set him by him,
9:48And said to them, Whoever receives this little child in my Name, receives me:and whoever shall receive me, receives him that sent me:for he that is least among you all, he shall be great.
9:49And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out demons in your Name, and we forbade him, because he follows you not with us.
9:50Then Jesus said to him, Forbid you him not:for he that is not against us, is with us.
9:51And it came to pass, when the days were accomplished, that he should be received up, he set himself fully to go to Jerusalem,
9:52And sent messengers before him:and they went and entered into a town of the Samaritans, to prepare him lodging.
9:53But they would not receive him, because his behavior was, as though he would go to Jerusalem.
9:54And when his disciples, James and John saw it, they said, Kyrios, will you that we command, that fire come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?
9:55But Jesus turned about, and rebuked them, and said, You know not of what spirit you are.
9:56For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's psyches, but to save them. Then they went to another town.
9:57And it came to pass that as they went in the way, a certain man said to him, I will follow you, Kyrios, wherever you go.
9:58And Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven nests, but the Son of man has not on what to lay his head.
9:59But he said to another, Follow me. And the same said, Kyrios, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
9:60And Jesus said to him, Let the dead bury their dead:but go you,and preach the kingdom of Theos.
9:61Then another said, I will follow you, Kyrios:but let me first go say farewell to them, which are at my house.
9:62And Jesus said to him, No man that puts his hand to the plow, and looks back, is apt to the kingdom of Theos.
Chapter 10
10:1After these things, the Kyrios appointed other seventy also, and sent them, two and two before him into every city and place, where he himself should come.
10:2And he said to them, The harvest is great, but the laborers are few:beseech therefore the Kyrios of the harvest to send forth laborers into his harvest.
10:3Go your ways:behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
10:4Carry no purse, neither bag, nor sandals, and salute no man by the way.
10:5And into whatever house you enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
10:6And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon him:if not, it shall turn to you again.
10:7And in that house remain, eating and drinking such things as by them shall be set before you:for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Go not from house to house.
10:8But into whatever city you shall enter, if they receive you, eat such things as are set before you,
10:9And heal the sick that are there, and say to them, The kingdom of Theos is come near to you.
10:10But into whatever city you shall enter, if they will not receive you, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,
10:11Even the very dust, which cleaves on us of your city, we wipe off against you:notwithstanding know this, that the kingdom of Theos was come near to you.
10:12For I say to you, that it shall be easier in that day for them of Sodom, then for that city.
10:13Woe be to you, Chorazin:woe be to you, Bethsaida:for if the miracles had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
10:14Therefore it shall be easier for Tyre, and Sidon, at the judgment, then for you.
10:15And you, Capernaum, which are exalted to heaven, shall be thrust down to Hades.
10:16He that hears you, hears me:and he that despises you, despises me:and he that despises me, despises him that sent me.
10:17And the seventy turned again with joy, saying, Kyrios, even the demons are subdued to us through your Name.
10:18And he said to them, I saw Satanas, like lightning, fall down from heaven.
10:19Behold, I give to you power to tread on Serpents, and Scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.
10:20Nevertheless, in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subdued to you:but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
10:21That same hour rejoiced Jesus in the spirit, and said, I confess to you, Father, Kyrios of heaven and earth, that you have hid these things from the wise and understanding, and have revealed them to babes:even so, Father, because it so pleased you.
10:22All things are given me of my Father:and no man knows who the Son is,but the Father:neither who the Father is, save the Son,and he to whom the Son will reveal him.
10:23And he turned to his disciples, and said secretly, Blessed are the eyes, which see that you see.
10:24For I tell you that many Prophets and Kings have desired to see those things, which you see,and have not seen them:and to hear those things which you hear, and have not heard them.
10:25Then behold, a certain Lawyer stood up,and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do, to inherit eternal life?
10:26And he said to him, What is written in the Law? How do you read?
10:27And he answered, and said, You shall love your Kyrios Theos with all your heart, and with all your psyche, and with all your strength, and with all your thought, and your neighbor as yourself.
10:28Then he said to him, You have answered right:this do,and you shall live.
10:29But he willing to justify himself, said to Jesus, Who is then my neighbor?
10:30And Jesus answered, and said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, and they robbed him of his clothing, and wounded him,and departed, leaving him half dead.
10:31Now so it fell out, that there came down a certain Priest that same way,and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
10:32And likewise also a Levite, when he was come near to the place, went and looked on him,and passed by on the other side.
10:33Then a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came near to him,and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
10:34And went to him,and bound up his wounds, and poured in oil and wine, and put him on his own beast, and brought him to an Inn,and made provision for him.
10:35And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said to him, Take care of him,and whatever you spend more, when I come again, I will recompense you.
10:36Which now of these three, think you, was neighbor to him that fell among the thieves?
10:37And he said, He that showed eleos on him. Then said Jesus to him, Go,and do you likewise.
10:38Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain town, and a certain woman named Martha, received him into her house.
10:39And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus feet, and heard his preaching.
10:40But Martha was care about much serving, and came to him,and said, Master, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her therefore, that she help me.
10:41And Jesus answered, and said to her, Martha, Martha, you care, and are troubled about many things:
10:42But one thing is needful, Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
Chapter 11
11:1And so it was, that as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, Kyrios, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
11:2And he said to them, When you pray, say, Our Father, who are in heaven, hallowed be your Name:Your kingdom come:Let your will be done, even in earth, as it is in heaven:
11:3Our daily bread give us for the day:
11:4And forgive us our sins:for even we forgive every man that is indebted to us:And lead us not into temptation:but deliver us from evil.
11:5Moreover he said to them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight, and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves?
11:6For a friend of my is come out of the way to me,and I have nothing to set before him:
11:7And he within should answer, and say, Trouble me not:the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed:I cannot rise and give them to you.
11:8I say to you, Though he would not arise and give him, because he is his friend, yet doubtless because of his persistence, he would rise, and give him as many as he needed.
11:9And I say to you, Ask,and it shall be given you:seek, and you shall find:knock, and it shall be opened to you.
11:10For every one that asks, receives:and he that seeks, finds:and to him that knocks, it shall be opened.
11:11If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
11:12Or if he ask an egg, will he give him a scorpion?
11:13If you then which are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them, that ask him?
11:14Then he cast out a demon which was dumb:and when the demon was gone out, the dumb spoke, and the people wondered.
11:15But some of them said, He casts out demons through Beelzebul the chief of the demons.
11:16And others tempted him, seeking of him a sign from heaven.
11:17But he knew their thoughts, and said to them, Every kingdom divided against it self, shall be desolate, and a house divided against a house, falls.
11:18So if Satanas also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand, because you say that I cast out demons through Beelzebul?
11:19If I through Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore shall they be your judges.
11:20But if I by the finger of Theos cast out demons, out the kingdom of Theos is come to you.
11:21When a strong man armed keeps his palace, the things that he possesses, are in peace.
11:22But when a stronger than he, comes upon him, and overcomes him: he takes from him all his armor in which he trusted, and divides his spoils.
11:23He that is not with me, is against me:and he that gathers not with me, scatters.
11:24When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest:and when he finds none he says, I will return to my house from where I came out.
11:25And when he comes, he finds it swept and garnished.
11:26Then goes he,and takes to him seven other spirits worse than himself:and they enter in,and dwell there:so the last state of that man is worse than the first.
11:27And it came to pass as he said these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said to him, Blessed is the womb that bore you,and the breasts which you have nursed.
11:28But he said, Yes, rather blessed are they that hear the word of Theos, and keep it.
11:29And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is a wicked generation:they seek a sign, and there shall no sign be given them, but the sign of Jonas the Prophet.
11:30For as Jonas was a sign to the Ninevites:so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.
11:31The Queen of the South shall rise in judgment, with the men of this generation, and shall condemn them:for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
11:32The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it:for they repented at the preaching of Jonas:and behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
11:33No man when he has lighted a candle, puts it in a hidden place, neither under a bushel:but on a candlestick, that they who come in, may see the light.
11:34The light of the body is the eye:therefore when your eye is single, then is your whole body light:but if your eye be evil, then your body is dark.
11:35Take heed therefore, that the light which is in you, be not darkness.
11:36If therefore your whole body shall be light, having no part dark, then shall all be light, even as when a candle does light you with the brightness.
11:37And as he spoke, a certain Pharisee implored him to dine with him: and he went in, and reclined at table.
11:38And when the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that he had not first washed before dinner.
11:39And the Kyrios said to him, indeed you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and the platter: but the inward part is full of greed and wickedness.
11:40You fools, did not he that made that which is without, make that which is within also?
11:41Therefore, give alms of those things which you have, and behold, all things shall be clean to you.
11:42But woe be to you, Pharisees:for you tithe the mint and the rue,and all manner herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of Theos:these ought you to have done, and not to have left the other undone.
11:43Woe be to you, Pharisees:for you love the uppermost seats in the Synagogues, and greetings in the markets.
11:44Woe be to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites:for you are as graves which appear not,and the men that walk over them, perceive not.
11:45Then answered one of the Lawyers, and said to him, Master, thus saying you put us to rebuke also.
11:46And he said, Woe be to you also, the Lawyers:for you load men with burdens grievous to be borne, and you yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.
11:47Woe be to you:for you build the sepulchres of the Prophets, and your fathers killed them.
11:48Truly you bear witness, and allow the deeds of your fathers:for they killed them, and you build their sepulchres.
11:49Therefore said the wisdom of Theos, I will send them Prophets and Apostles, and of them they shall slay, and persecute away,
11:50That the blood of all the Prophets, shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation,
11:51From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zacharias, which was slain between the altar and the Temple:verily I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.
11:52Woe be to you, Lawyers:for you have taken away the key of knowledge:you entered not in yourselves, and them that came in, the forbade.
11:53And as he said these things to them, the Scribes and Pharisees began to urge him sore, and to provoke him to speak of many things,
11:54Laying wait for him,and seeking to catch something of his mouth, by which they might accuse him.
Chapter 12
12:1In the mean time, there gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, so that they trod one upon another: and he began to say to his disciples first, Take heed to yourselves of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
12:2For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed:neither hid, that shall not be known.
12:3Therefore whatever you have spoken in darkness, it shall be heard in the light:and that which you have spoken in the ear, in secret places, shall be preached on the houses.
12:4And I say to you, my friends, be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that are not able to do any more.
12:5But I will forewarn you, who you shall fear:fear him which after he has killed, has power to cast into Gehenna:yes, I say to you, him fear.
12:6Are not five sparrows bought for two farthings, and yet not one of them is forgotten before Theos?
12:7Yes,and all the hairs of your head are numbered:fear not therefore:you are more of value than many sparrows.
12:8Also I say to you, Whoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man confess also before the Angels of Theos.
12:9But he that shall deny me before men, shall be denied before the Angels of Theos.
12:10And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him:but to him, that shall blaspheme the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven.
12:11And when they shall bring you to the Synagogues, and to the rulers and Princes, take no thought how, or what thing you shall answer, or what you shall speak.
12:12For the Holy Spirit shall teach you in the same hour, what you ought to say.
12:13And one of the company said to him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.
12:14And he said to him, Man, who made me a judge, or a judge over you?
12:15Therefore he said to them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness:for though a man have abundance, yet his life stands not in his riches.
12:16And he put forth a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth fruits plenteously.
12:17Therefore he thought with himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room, where I may lay up my fruits?
12:18And he said, This will I do, I will pul down my barns, and build greater, and in it will I gather all my fruits, and my goods.
12:19And I will say to my psyche, Soul, you have much goods laid up for many years:live at ease, eat, drink and take your pastime.
12:20But Theos said to him, O fool, this night will they fetch away your psyche from you:then whose shall those things be which you have provided?
12:21So is he that gathers riches to himself, and is not rich in Theos.
12:22And he spoke to his disciples,Therefore I say to you, Take no thought for your psyche, what you shall eat:neither for your body, what you shall put on.
12:23The psyche is more than meat:and the body more than the clothing.
12:24Consider the ravens:for they neither sow nor reap:which neither have storehouse nor barn, and yet Theos feeds them:how much more are you better than fowls?
12:25And which of you with taking thought, can add to his stature one cubit?
12:26If you then be not able to do the least thing, why take you thought for the remnant?
12:27Consider the lilies how they grow:they labor not, neither spin they:yet I say to you, that Solomon himself in all his royalty was not clothed like one of these.
12:28If then Theos so clothe the grass which is today in the field, and Tomorrow is cast into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith?
12:29Therefore seek not what you shall eat, or what you shall drink, neither hag you in suspense.
12:30For all such things the people of the world seek for:and your Father knows that you have need of these things.
12:31But rather seek you after the kingdom of Theos, and all these things shall be cast upon you.
12:32Fear not, little flock:for it is your Fathers pleasure, to give you the kingdom.
12:33Sell that you have, and give alms:make for yourselves bags, which do not grow old, a treasure that can never fail in heaven, where no thief comes, neither moth corrupts.
12:34For where your treasure is, there will your hearts be also.
12:35Let your loins be gird about and your lights burning,
12:36And you yourselves like to men that wait for their master, when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks, they may open to him immediately.
12:37Blessed are those servants, whom the Kyrios when he comes shall find watching:assuredly I say to you, he will gird himself about, and make them to sit down at table, and will come forth, and serve them.
12:38And if he come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and shall find them so, blessed are those servants.
12:39Now understand this, that if the good man of the house had known at what hour the thief would have come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be digged through.
12:40Be you also prepared therefore:for the Son of man will come at an hour when you think not.
12:41Then Peter said to him, Master, tell you this parable to us, or even to all?
12:42And the Kyrios said, Who is a faithful steward and wise, whom the master shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in season?
12:43Blessed is that servant, whom his master when he comes, shall find so doing.
12:44Of a truth I say to you, that he will make him ruler over all that he has.
12:45But if that servant say in his heart, My master does defer his coming, and begin to smite the servants, and maidens, and to eat,and drink, and to be drunken,
12:46The master of that servant will come in a day when he thinks not,and at an hour when he is not aware of,and will cut him off,and give him his portion with the unbelievers.
12:47And that servant that knew his master's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
12:48But he that knew it not,and yet did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes:for to whomever much is given, of him shall be much required, and to whom men much commit, the more of him will they ask.
12:49I am come to put fire on the earth, and what is my desire, if it be already kindled?
12:50Notwithstanding I must be baptized with a baptism, and how am I grieved, till it be ended?
12:51Think you that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, no,but rather debate.
12:52For from now on there shall be five in one house divided, three against two,and two against three.
12:53The father shall be divided against the son,and the son against the father:the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother:the mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law,and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
12:54Then he said to the people, When you see a cloud rise out of the West, immediately you say, A shower comes:and so it is.
12:55And when you see the South wind blow, you say, that it will be hot:and it comes to pass.
12:56Hypocrites, you can discern the face of the earth, and of the sky:but why discern you not this time?
12:57Yes,and why do you not judge of yourselves what is right?
12:58While you go with your adversary to the ruler, as you are in the way, give diligence in the way, that you may be delivered from him, lest he draw you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the jailer, and the jailer cast you into prison.
12:59I tell you, you shall not depart from there, till you have paid the utmost mite.
Chapter 13
13:1There were certain men present at the same season, that showed him of the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
13:2And Jesus answered, and said to them, Suppose you, that these Galileans were greater sinners than all the other Galileans, because they have suffered such things?
13:3I tell you, no:but except you amend your lives, you shall all likewise perish.
13:4Or think you that those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, were sinners above all men that dwell in Jerusalem?
13:5I tell you, no:but except you amend your lives, you shall all likewise perish.
13:6He spoke also this parable, A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard: and he came and sought fruit on it, and found none.
13:7Then he said to the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, this three years have I come and sought fruit of this fig tree, and find none:cut it down:why keeps it also the ground barren?
13:8And he answered, and said to him, Kyrios, let it alone this year also, till I dig round about it,and around it.
13:9And if it bear fruit, well:if not, then after you shall cut it down.
13:10And he taught in one of the Synagogues on the Sabbath day.
13:11And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could not lift up herself in any wise.
13:12When Jesus saw her, he called her to him,and said to her, Woman, you are loosed from your disease.
13:13And he laid his hands on her,and immediately she was made straight again, and glorified Theos.
13:14And the ruler of the Synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus healed on the Sabbath day,and said to the people, There are six days in which men ought to work:in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.
13:15Then answered him the Kyrios, and said, Hypocrite, does not each one of you on the Sabbath day loose his ox or his donkey from the stall, and lead him away to the water?
13:16And ought not this daughter of Abraham, whom Satanas had bound, lo, eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?
13:17And when he said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed:but all the people rejoiced at all the excellent things, that were done by him.
13:18Then he said, What is the kingdom of Theos like? Or to what shall I compare it?
13:19It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his garden, and it grew, and became a great tree, and the fowls of the heaven made nests in the branches of it.
13:20And again he said, To what shall I liken the kingdom of Theos?
13:21It is like leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three pecks of flour, till all was leavened.
13:22And he went through all cities and towns, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.
13:23Then said one to him, Kyrios, are there few that shall be saved? And he said to them,
13:24Strive to enter in at the narrow gate: for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
13:25When the good man of the house is risen up,and has shut to the door, and you begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Kyrios, Kyrios, open to us,and he shall answer and say to you, I know you not from where you are,
13:26Then shall you begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in your presence, and you have taught in our streets.
13:27But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not from where you are:depart from me, all you workers of unrighteousness.
13:28There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you shall see Abraham and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the Prophets in the kingdom of Theos, and yourselves thrust out at doors.
13:29Then shall come many from the East, and from the West, and from the North, and from the South, and shall recline at table in the kingdom of Theos.
13:30And behold, there are last, which shall be first, and there are first, which shall be last.
13:31The same day there came certain Pharisees, and said to him, Depart, and go from here:for Herod will kill you.
13:32Then he said to them, Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out demons, and will heal still today, and Tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.
13:33Nevertheless I must walk today, and Tomorrow, and the day following:for it cannot be that a Prophet should perish out of Jerusalem.
13:34O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which kill the Prophets, and stone them that are sent to you, how often would I have gathered your children together, as the hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not!
13:35Behold, your house is left to you desolate:and assuredly I tell you, you shall not see me until the time come that you shall say, Blessed is he that comes in the Name of the Kyrios.
Chapter 14
14:1And it came to pass that when he was entered into the house of one of the chief Pharisees on the Sabbath day, to eat bread, they watched him.
14:2And behold, there was a certain man before him, which had the dropsy.
14:3Then Jesus answering, spoke to the Lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day?
14:4And they held their peace. Then he took him,and healed him,and let him go,
14:5And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have a donkey, or an ox fallen into a pit,and will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?
14:6And they could not answer him again to those things.
14:7He spoke also a parable to the best, when he marked how they chose out the chief places, and said to them,
14:8When you are invited by any man to a wedding, set not yourself down in the chief place, lest a more honorable man than you, be invited by him,
14:9And he that invited both him and you, come, and say to you, Give this man room, and you then begin with shame to take the lowest room.
14:10But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest room, that when he that invited you comes, he may say to you, Friend, sit up higher: then shall you have worship in the presence of them that recline at table with you.
14:11For whoever exalts himself, shall be brought low,and he that humbles himself, shall be exalted.
14:12Then said he also to him that had invited him, When you make a dinner or a supper, call not your friends, nor your brethren, neither your kinsmen, nor the rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return, and a recompense be made you.
14:13But when you make a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, and the blind,
14:14And you shall be blessed, because they cannot recompense you:for you shall be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.
14:15Now when one of them that reclined at table, heard these things, he said to him, Blessed is he that eats bread in the kingdom of Theos.
14:16Then he said to him, A certain man made a great supper, and invited many,
14:17And sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, Come:for all things are now ready.
14:18But they all with one mind began to make excuse:The first said to him, I have bought a field, and I must needs go out and see it:I ask you, have me excused.
14:19And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them:I ask you, have me excused.
14:20And another said, I have married a wife,and therefore I cannot come.
14:21So that servant returned, and showed his master these things. Then was the good man of the house angry, and said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.
14:22And the servant said, Kyrios, it is done as you have commanded, and yet there is room.
14:23Then the master said to the servant, Go out into the high ways, and hedges, and compel them to come in,that my house may be filled.
14:24For I say to you, that none of those men who were invited, shall taste of my supper.
14:25Now there went great multitudes with him,and he turned and said to them,
14:26If any man come to me,and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters:yes, and his own psyche also, he cannot be my disciple.
14:27And whoever bears not his cross, and comes after me, cannot be my disciple.
14:28For which of you minding to build a tower, sits not down before, and counts the cost, whether he have sufficient to perform it,
14:29Lest that after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to perform it, all that behold it, begin to mock him,
14:30Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to make an end?
14:31Or what King going to make war against another King, sits not down first, and takes counsel, whether he be able with ten thousand, to meet him that comes against him with twenty thousand?
14:32Or else while he is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation, and asks for peace.
14:33So likewise, whoever he be of you, that forsake not all that he has, he cannot be my disciple.
14:34Salt is good: but if salt have lost his savor, with what shall it be salted?
14:35It is neither meet for the land, nor yet for the manure pile, but men cast it out. He that has ears to hear, let him hear.
Chapter 15
15:1Then resorted to him all the tax collectors and sinners, to hear him.
15:2Therefore the Pharisees and Scribes murmured, saying, He receives sinners, and eats with them.
15:3Then spoke he this parable to them, saying,
15:4What man of you having a hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, does not leave ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
15:5And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders with joy.
15:6And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, Rejoice with me:for I have found my sheep which was lost.
15:7I say to you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven for one sinner that converts, more than for ninety and nine just men, who need none amendment of life.
15:8Either what woman having ten groats, if she lose one groat, does not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?
15:9And when she has found it, she calls her friends, and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with me:for I have found the groat which I had lost.
15:10Likewise I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the Angels of Theos, for one sinner that converts.
15:11He said moreover, A certain man had two sons.
15:12And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of the goods that falls to me. So he divided to them his substance.
15:13So not many days after, when the younger son had gathered all together, he took his journey into a far country, and there he wasted his goods with riotous living.
15:14Now when he had spent all, there arose a great famine throughout that land, and he began to be in necessity.
15:15Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him to his farm, to feed swine.
15:16And he would gladly have filled his belly with the pods, that the swine ate:but no man gave them him.
15:17Then he came to himself, and said, How many hired servants at my fathers have bread enough, and I die for hunger?
15:18I will rise and go to my father, and say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you,
15:19And am no more worthy to be called your son:make me as one of your hired servants.
15:20So he arose and came to his father, and when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him,and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
15:21And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you,and am no more worthy to be called your son.
15:22Then the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him,and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet,
15:23And bring the fat calf, and kill him,and let us eat,and be merry:
15:24For this my son was dead, and is alive again:and he was lost, but he is found. And they began to be merry.
15:25Now the elder brother was in the field, and when he came and drew near to the house, he heard melody, and dancing,
15:26And called one of his servants, and asked what those things meant.
15:27And he said to him, Your brother is come, and your father has killed the fat calf, because he has received him safe and sound.
15:28Then he was angry, and would not go in:therefore came his father out and entreated him.
15:29But he answered and said to his father, Lo, these many years have I done you service, neither broke I at any time your commandment, and yet you never gave me a kid that I might make merry with my friends.
15:30But when this your son was come, which has devoured your good with harlots, you have for his sake killed the fat calf.
15:31And he said to him, Son, you are ever with me, and all that I have, is yours.
15:32It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this your brother was dead, and is alive again: and he was lost, but he is found.
Chapter 16
16:1And he said also to his disciples, There was a certain rich man, who had a steward, and he was accused to him, that he wasted his goods.
16:2And he called him,and said to him, How is it that I hear this of you? Give an account of your stewardship:for you may be no longer steward.
16:3Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? For my master takes away from me the stewardship. I cannot dig,and to beg I am ashamed.
16:4I know what I will do,that when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.
16:5Then called he to him every one of his masters debtors, and said to the first, How much owe you to my master?
16:6And he said, A hundred measures of oil. And he said to him, Take your writing, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.
16:7Then he said to another, How much owe you? And he said, A hundred measures of wheat. Then he said to him, Take your writing, and write four score.
16:8And the Kyrios commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely. Therefore the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.
16:9And I say to you, Make for yourselves friends with the riches of unrighteousness, that when you fail, they may receive you into everlasting tabernacles.
16:10He that is faithful in the least, he is also faithful in much:and he that is unjust in the least, is unjust also in much.
16:11If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous riches, who will trust you in the true treasure?
16:12And if you have not been faithful in another man's goods, who shall give you that which is yours?
16:13No servant can serve two masters:for either he shall hate the one,and love the other:or else he shall lean to the one,and despise the other. You cannot serve Theos and riches.
16:14All these things heard the Pharisees also which were covetous, and they scoffed at him.
16:15Then he said to them, You are they who justify yourselves before men:but Theos knows your hearts:for that which is highly esteemed among men, is abomination in the sight of Theos.
16:16The Law and the Prophets endured until John:and since that time the kingdom of Theos is preached, and every man presses into it.
16:17Now it is more easy that heaven and earth should pass away, than that one title of the Law should fall.
16:18Whoever puts away his wife, and marries another, commits adultery:and whoever marries her that is put away from her husband, commits adultery.
16:19There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared well and delicately every day.
16:20Also there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate full of sores,
16:21And desired to be refreshed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man's table:yes, and the dogs came and licked his sores.
16:22And it was so that the beggar died, and was carried by the Angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried.
16:23And being in Hades in torments, he lifted up his eyes, and saw Abraham a far off,and Lazarus in his bosom.
16:24Then he cried, and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me,and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue:for I am tormented in this flame.
16:25But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your life time received your pleasures, and likewise Lazarus pains:now therefore is he comforted, and you are tormented.
16:26Besides all this, between you and us there is a great gulf set, so that they who would go from here to you, cannot:neither can they come from there to us.
16:27Then he said, I ask therefore, father, that you would send him to my fathers house,
16:28(For I have five brethren) that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
16:29Abraham said to him, They have Moses and the Prophets:let them hear them.
16:30And he said, No, father Abraham:but if one came to them from the dead, they will amend their lives.
16:31Then he said to him, If they hear not Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rise from the dead again.
Chapter 17
17:1Then he said to his disciples, It cannot be avoided, but that offenses will come, but woe be to him by whom they come.
17:2It is better for him that a great millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
17:3Take heed to yourselves:if your brother sins against you, rebuke him:and if he repent, forgive him.
17:4And though he sin against you seven times in a day,and seven times in a day turn again to you, saying, It repents me, you shall forgive him.
17:5And the Apostles said to the Kyrios, Increase our faith.
17:6And the Kyrios said, If you had faith, as much as is a grain of mustard seed, and should say to this mulberry tree, Pluck yourself up by the roots, and be planted in the sea, it should even obey you.
17:7Who is it also of you, that having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, would say to him by and by, when he were come from the field, Go,and sit down at table?
17:8And would not rather say to him, Dress with what I may sup, and gird yourself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken, and afterward you eat, and drink?
17:9Does he thank that servant, because he did that which was commanded to him? I think not.
17:10So likewise you, when you have done all those things, which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants:we have done that which was our duty to do.
17:11And so it was when he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria, and Galilee.
17:12And as he entered into a certain town, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood a far off.
17:13And they lifted up their voices and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
17:14And when he saw them, he said to them, Go, show yourselves to the Priests. And it came to pass, that as they went, they were cleansed.
17:15Then one of them, when he saw that he, was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice praised Theos,
17:16And fell down on his face at his feet, and gave him thanks:and he was a Samaritan.
17:17And Jesus answered, and said, Are there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?
17:18There is none found that returned to give Theos praise, save this stranger.
17:19And he said to him, Arise, go your way, your faith has saved you.
17:20And when he was asked by the Pharisees, when the kingdom of Theos should come, he answered them, and said, The kingdom of Theos comes not with observation.
17:21Neither shall men say, Lo here, or lo there:for behold, the kingdom of Theos is within you.
17:22And he said to the disciples, The days will come, when you shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man,and you shall not see it.
17:23Then they shall say to you, Behold here, or behold there:but do not go there, neither follow them.
17:24For as the lightning that lightens out of the one part under heaven, shines to the other part under heaven, so shall the Son of man be in his day.
17:25But first must he suffer many things, and be reproved of this generation.
17:26And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be in the days of the Son of man.
17:27They ate, they drank, they married wives, and gave in marriage to the day that Noah went into the Ark:and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
17:28Likewise also, as it was in the days of Lot:they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built.
17:29But in the day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
17:30According to these things shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
17:31At that day he that is upon the house, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it out:and he that is in the field likewise, let him not turn back to that he left behind.
17:32Remember Lot's wife.
17:33Whoever will seek to save his psyche, shall loose it:and whoever shall loose it, shall get it life.
17:34I tell you, in that night there shall be two in one bed:the one shall be received, and the other shall be left.
17:35Two women shall be grinding together:the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
17:36Two shall be in the field:one shall be received, and another shall be left.
17:37And they answered, and said to him, Where, Kyrios? And he said to them, Wherever the body is, there shall also the eagles be gathered together.
Chapter 18
18:1And he spoke also a parable to them, to this end, that they ought always to pray, and not to lose heart,
18:2Saying, There was a judge in a certain city, which feared not Theos, neither reverenced man.
18:3And there was a widow in that city, which came to him, saying, Do me justice against my adversary.
18:4And he would not of a long time:but afterward he said with himself, Though I fear not Theos, nor reverence man,
18:5Yet because this widow troubles me, I will do her right, lest at the last she come and make me weary.
18:6And the Kyrios said, Hear what the unrighteous judge says.
18:7Now shall not Theos avenge his elect, which cry day and night to him, yes, though he suffer long for them?
18:8I tell you he will avenge them quickly:but when the Son of man comes, shall he find faith on the earth?
18:9He spoke also this parable to certain which trusted in themselves that they were just, and despised other.
18:10Two men went up into the Temple to pray:the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax collector.
18:11The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, O Theos, I thank you that I am not as other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.
18:12I fast twice in the week:I give tithe of all that ever I possess.
18:13But the tax collector standing a far off, would not lift up so much as his eyes to heaven, but smote his breast, saying, O Theos, be merciful to me a sinner.
18:14I tell you, this man departed to his house justified, rather than the other:for every man that exalts himself, shall be brought low,and he that humbles himself, shall be exalted.
18:15They brought to him also babes that he should touch them. And when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
18:16But Jesus called them to him,and said, Suffer the babes to come to me,and forbid them not:for of such is the kingdom of Theos.
18:17Assuredly I say to you, whoever receives not the kingdom of Theos as a babe, he shall not enter in it.
18:18Then a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what ought I to do, to inherit eternal life?
18:19And Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good? None is good, save one, even Theos.
18:20You know the commandments, You shall not commit adultery:You shall not kill:You shall not steal:You shall not bear false witness:Honor your father and your mother.
18:21And he said, All these have I kept from my youth.
18:22Now when Jesus heard that, he said to him, Yet lack you one thing. Sell all that ever you have, and distribute to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven, and come follow me.
18:23But when he heard those things, he was very heavy:for he was marvelous rich.
18:24And when Jesus saw him very sorrowful, he said, with what difficulty shall they that have riches, enter into the kingdom of Theos!
18:25Surely it is easier for a camel to go through a needle eye, then for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of Theos.
18:26Then said they that heard it,And who then can be saved?
18:27And he said, The things which are impossible with men, are possible with Theos.
18:28Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all,and have followed you.
18:29And he said to them, Assuredly I say to you, there is no man that has left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children for the kingdom of God's sake,
18:30Which shall not receive much more in this world, and in the world to come life everlasting.
18:31Then Jesus took to him you twelve, and said to them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things shall be fulfilled to the Son of man, that are written by the Prophets.
18:32For he shall be delivered to the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and shall be spitefully entreated, and shall be spitted on.
18:33And when they have scourged him, they will put him to death:but the third day he shall rise again.
18:34But they understood none of these things, and this saying was hid from them, neither perceived they the things, which were spoken.
18:35And it came to pass, that as he was come near to Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the wayside, begging.
18:36And when he heard the people pass by, he asked what it meant.
18:37And they said to him, that Jesus of Nazareth passed by.
18:38Then he cried, saying, Jesus the Son of David, have mercy on me.
18:39And they who went before, rebuked him that he should hold his peace, but he cried much more, O Son of David, have mercy on me.
18:40And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he was come near, he asked him,
18:41Saying, What will you that I do to you? And he said, Kyrios, that I may receive my sight.
18:42And Jesus said to him, Receive your sight:your faith has saved you.
18:43Then immediately he received his sight, and followed him, praising Theos:and all the people, when they saw this, gave praise to Theos.
Chapter 19
19:1Now when Jesus entered and passed through Jericho,
19:2Behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief receiver of the tribute, and he was rich.
19:3And he sought to see Jesus, who he should be,and could not for the press, because he was of a low stature.
19:4Therefore he ran before, and climbed up into a wild fig tree, that he might see him:for he should come that way.
19:5And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up,and saw him,and said to him, Zacchaeus, come down at once:for today I must abide at your house.
19:6Then he came down hastily, and received him joyfully.
19:7And when all they saw it, they murmured, saying, that he was gone in to lodge with a sinful man.
19:8And Zacchaeus stood forth, and said to the Kyrios, Behold, Kyrios, the half of my goods I give to the poor:and if I have taken from any man by forged accusation, I restore him four fold.
19:9Then Jesus said to him, This day is salvation come to this house, forasmuch as he is also become the son of Abraham.
19:10For the Son of man is come to seek, and to save that which was lost.
19:11And while they heard these things, he continued and spoke a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because also they thought that the kingdom of Theos should shortly appear.
19:12He said therefore, A certain noble man went into a far country, to receive for himself a kingdom, and so to come again.
19:13And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pieces of money, and said to them, Occupy till I come.
19:14Now his citizens hated him,and sent a delegation after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.
19:15And it came to pass, when he was come again, and had received his kingdom, that he commanded the servants to be called to him, to whom he gave his money, that he might know what every man had gained.
19:16Then came the first, saying, Kyrios, your piece has increased ten pieces.
19:17And he said to him, Well, good servant:because you have been faithful in a very little thing, take authority over ten cities.
19:18And the second came, saying, Kyrios, your piece has increased five pieces.
19:19And to the same he said, Be you also ruler over five cities.
19:20So the other came, and said, Kyrios, behold your piece, which I have laid up in a napkin:
19:21For I feared you, because you are a straight man:you take up,that you laid not down, and reap that you did not sow.
19:22Then he said to him, Of your own mouth will I judge you, O evil servant. You knew that I am a straight man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow.
19:23Why then gave not you my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required it with interest?
19:24And he said to them that stood by, Take from him that piece, and give it him that has ten pieces.
19:25(And they said to him, Kyrios, he has ten pieces.)
19:26For I say to you, that to all them that have, it shall be given:and from him that has not, even that he has, shall be taken from him.
19:27Moreover, those my enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring here, and slay them before me.
19:28And when he had thus spoken, he went forth before, ascending up to Jerusalem.
19:29And it came to pass, when he was come near to Bethphage, and Bethany, besides the mount which is called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
19:30Saying, Go to the town which is before you, In which, as soon as you are come, you shall find a colt tied, where never man sat:loose him,and bring him here.
19:31And if any man ask you, why you loose him, thus shall you say to him, Because the Kyrios has need of him.
19:32So they that were sent, went their way,and found it as he had said to them.
19:33And as they were loosing the colt, the owners of it said to them, Why loose you the colt?
19:34And they said, The Kyrios has need of him.
19:35So they brought him to Jesus, and they cast their garments on the colt, and set Jesus on it.
19:36And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.
19:37And when he was now come near to the going down of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice, and to praise Theos with a loud voice, for all the mighty works that they had seen,
19:38Saying, Blessed be the King that comes in the Name of the Kyrios:peace in heaven, and glory in the highest places.
19:39Then some of the Pharisees of the company said to him, Master, rebuke your disciples.
19:40But he answered, and said to them, I tell you, that if these should hold their peace, the stones would cry.
19:41And when he was come near, he saw the City, and wept for it,
19:42Saying, O if you had even known at the least in this your day those things, which belong to your peace! But now are they hid from your eyes.
19:43For the days shall come upon you, that your enemies shall cast a trench about you,and compass you round, and keep you in on every side,
19:44And shall make you even with the ground, and your children who are in you,and they shall not leave in you a stone upon a stone, because you knew not that season of your visitation.
19:45He went also into the Temple, and began to cast out them that sold in it, and them that bought,
19:46Saying to them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.
19:47And he taught daily in the Temple. And the high Priests and the Scribes, and the chief of the people sought to destroy him.
19:48But they could not find what they might do to him:for all the people hanged upon him when they heard him.
Chapter 20
20:1And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the Temple, and preached the Gospel, the high Priests and the Scribes came upon him with the Elders,
20:2And spoke to him, saying, Tell us by what authority you do these things, or who is he that has given you this authority?
20:3And he answered, and said to them, I also will ask you one thing:tell me therefore:
20:4The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?
20:5And they reasoned within themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven, he will say, Why then believed you him not?
20:6But if we shall say, Of men, all the people will stone us:for they be persuaded that John was a Prophet.
20:7Therefore they answered, that they could not tell from where it was.
20:8Then Jesus said to them,Neither tell I you, by what authority I do these things.
20:9Then began he to speak to the people this parable, A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen:and went into a strange country, for a great time.
20:10And at the time convenient he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard:but the husbandmen did beat him,and sent him away empty.
20:11Again he sent yet another servant:and they did beat him,and fowl entreated him,and sent him away empty.
20:12Moreover he sent the third, and him they wounded, and cast out.
20:13Then said the Kyrios of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son:it may be that they will do reverence, when they see him.
20:14But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned with themselves, saying, This is the heir:come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
20:15So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What shall the Kyrios of the vineyard therefore do to them?
20:16He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give out his vineyard to others. But when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
20:17And he beheld them, and said, What means this then that is written, The stone that the builders refused, that is made the head of the corner?
20:18Whoever shall fall upon that stone, shall be broken:and on whomever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
20:19Then the high Priests, and the Scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him:(but they feared the people) for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
20:20And they watched him,and sent forth spies, which should in themselves just men, to take him in his talk, and to deliver him to the power and authority of the governor.
20:21And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that you say,and teach right, neither do you accept man's person, but teach the way of Theos truly.
20:22Is it lawful for us to give Caesar tribute or no?
20:23But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, Why tempt you me?
20:24Show me a penny. Whose image and inscription has it? They answered, and said, Caesar's.
20:25Then he said to them, Give then to Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and to Theos those which are God's.
20:26And they could not reprove his saying before the people:but they marveled at his answer, and held their peace.
20:27Then came to him certain of the Sadducees (which deny that there is any resurrection) and they asked him,
20:28Saying, Master, Moses wrote to us, If any man's brother die having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.
20:29Now there were seven brethren, and the first took a wife, and he died without children.
20:30And the second took the wife, and he died childless.
20:31Then the third took her:and so likewise the seven died, and left no children.
20:32And last of all the woman died also.
20:33Therefore at the resurrection, whose wife of them shall she be? For seven had her to wife.
20:34Then Jesus answered, and said to them, The children of this world marry wives, and are married.
20:35But they who shall be counted worthy to enjoy that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry wives, neither are married.
20:36For they can die no more, for as they are equal to the Angels, and are the sons of Theos, since they are the children of the resurrection.
20:37And that the dead shall rise again, even Moses showed it besides the bush, when he said, The Kyrios is the Theos of Abraham, and the Theos of Isaac, and the Theos of Jacob.
20:38For he is not the Theos of the dead, but of them which live:for all live to him.
20:39Then certain of the Scribes answered, and said, Master, you have well said.
20:40And after that, they dared not ask him anything at all.
20:41Then he said to them, How say they that Christos is David's son?
20:42And David himself says in the book of the Psalms, The Kyrios said to my Kyrios, Sit at my right hand,
20:43Till I shall make your enemies your footstool.
20:44Seeing David called him Kyrios, how is he then his son?
20:45Then in the audience of all the people he said to his disciples,
20:46Beware of the Scribes, which willingly go in long robes, and love salutations in the markets, and the highest seats in the assemblies, and the chief seats at feasts:
20:47Which devour widows houses, and in show make long prayers:These shall receive greater judgment.
Chapter 21
21:1And as he saw, he saw the rich men, who cast their gifts into the treasury.
21:2And he saw also a certain poor widow which cast in there two mites:
21:3And he said, Of a truth I say to you, that this poor widow has cast in more than they all.
21:4For they all have of their superfluity cast into the offerings of Theos:but she of her penury has cast in all the living that she had.
21:5Now as some spoke of the Temple, how it was garnished with goodly stones, and with consecrate things, he said,
21:6Are these the things that you look upon? The days will come in which a stone shall not be left upon a stone, that shall not be thrown down.
21:7Then they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? And what sign shall there be when these things shall come to pass?
21:8And he said, Take heed, that you be not deceived:for many will come in my Name, saying, I am Christ, and the time draws near:do not follow them therefore.
21:9And when you hear of wars and things, be not afraid:for these things must first come, but the end follows not by and by.
21:10Then he said to them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom,
21:11And great earthquakes shall be in diverse places, and hunger, and pestilence, and fearful things, and great signs shall there be from heaven.
21:12But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the assemblies, and into prisons, and bring you before Kings and rulers for my Name's sake.
21:13And this shall turn to you, for a testimony.
21:14Lay it up therefore in your hearts, that you cast not before hand, what you shall answer.
21:15For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to speak against, nor resist.
21:16Yes, you shall be betrayed also of your parents, and of your brethren, and kinsmen, and friends, and some of you shall they put to death.
21:17And you shall be hated of all men for my Name's sake.
21:18Yet there shall not one hear of your heads perish.
21:19By your patience possess your psyches.
21:20And when you see Jerusalem besieged with soldiers, then understand that the desolation of it is near.
21:21Then let them which are in Judea, flee to the mountains: and let them which are in the midst of it, depart out: and let not them that are in the country, enter in it.
21:22For these be the days of vengeance, to fulfill all things that are written.
21:23But woe be to them that be with child, and to them that give suck in those days:for there shall be great distress in this land, and wrath over this people.
21:24And they shall fall on the edge of the sword, and shall be led captive into all nations, and Jerusalem shall be trampled under foot by the Gentiles, until the time of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
21:25Then there shall be signs in the sun,and in the moon, and in the stars, and upon the earth trouble among the nations with perplexity:the sea and the waters shall roar.
21:26And men's hearts shall fail them for fear, and for looking after those things which shall come on the world:for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
21:27And then shall they see the Son of man come in a cloud, with power and great glory.
21:28And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up,and lift up your heads:for your redemption draws near.
21:29And he spoke to them a parable, Behold, the fig tree, and all trees,
21:30When they now shoot forth, you seeing them, know of your own selves, that summer is then near.
21:31So likewise you, when you see these things come to pass, know you that the kingdom of Theos is near.
21:32Assuredly I say to you, This age shall not pass, till all these things be done:
21:33Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
21:34Take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be weighed down with carousing and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and lest that day come on you at unawares.
21:35For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
21:36Watch therefore, and pray continually, that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and that you may stand before the Son of man.
21:37Now in the day time he taught in the Temple, and at night he went out,and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives.
21:38And all the people came in the morning to him, to hear him in the Temple.
Chapter 22
22:1Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called the Passover.
22:2And the high Priests and Scribes sought how they might kill him:for they feared the people.
22:3Then entered Satanas into Judas, who was called Iscariot, and was of the number of the twelve.
22:4And he went his way,and communed with the high Priests and captains, how he might betray him to them.
22:5So they were glad, and agreed to give him money.
22:6And he consented, and sought opportunity to betray him to them, when the people were away.
22:7Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the Passover must be sacrificed.
22:8And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the Passover, that we may eat it.
22:9And they said to him, Where will you, that we prepare it?
22:10Then he said to them, Behold, when you be entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water:follow him into the house that he enters in,
22:11And say to the good man of the house, The Master says to you, Where is the lodging where I shall eat my Passover with my disciples?
22:12Then he shall show you a great high chamber trimmed:there make it ready.
22:13So they went, and found as he had said to them, and made ready the Passover.
22:14And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve Apostles with him.
22:15Then he said to them, I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you, before I suffer.
22:16For I say to you, No longer I will not eat of it any more, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of Theos.
22:17And he took the cup,and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among you,
22:18For I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of Theos be come.
22:19And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it,and gave to them, saying, This is my body, which is given for you:do this in the remembrance of me.
22:20Likewise also after supper he took the cup, saying, This cup is the new Covenant in my blood, which is shed for you.
22:21Yet behold, the hand of him who betrays me, is with me at the table.
22:22And truly the Son of man goes as it is appointed:but woe be to that man, by whom he is betrayed.
22:23Then they began to inquire among themselves which of them it should be,that should do that.
22:24And there arose also a strife among them, which of them should seem to be the greatest.
22:25But he said to them, The Kings of the Gentiles reign over them, and they that bear rule over them, are called bountiful.
22:26But you shall not be so:but let the greatest among you be as the least:and the chief as he that serves.
22:27For who is greater, he that reclines at table, or he that serves? Is not he that reclines at table? And I am among you as he that serves.
22:28And you are they who have continued with me in my temptations.
22:29Therefore I appoint to you a kingdom, as my Father has appointed to me,
22:30That you may eat,and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on seats, and judge the twelve tribes of Israel.
22:31And the Kyrios said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satanas has desired you, to winnow you as wheat.
22:32But I have prayed for you, that your faith fail not:therefore when you are converted, strengthen your brethren.
22:33And he said to him, Kyrios, I am ready to go with you into prison, and to death.
22:34But he said, I tell you, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before you have thrice denied that you knew me.
22:35And he said to them, When I sent you without purse, and bag,and sandals, lacked you anything? And they said, Nothing.
22:36Then he said to them,But now he that has a purse, let him take it,and likewise a bag:and he that has none, let him sell his coat, and buy a sword.
22:37For I say to you,That yet the same which is written, must be performed in me, Even with the wicked was he numbered:for doubtless those things which are written of me, have an end.
22:38And they said, Kyrios, behold, here are two swords. And he said to them, It is enough.
22:39And he came out,and went (as was his custom) to the mount of Olives:and his disciples also followed him.
22:40And when he came to the place, he said to them, Pray, lest you enter into temptation.
22:41And he was drawn aside from them about a stones cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
22:42Saying, Father, if you will, take away this cup from me:nevertheless, not my will, but your be done.
22:43And there appeared an Angel to him from heaven, comforting him.
22:44But being in an agony, he prayed more earnestly:and his sweat was like drops of blood, trickling down to the ground.
22:45And he rose up from prayer, and came to his disciples, and found them sleeping for heaviness.
22:46And he said to them, Why sleep you? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.
22:47And while he yet spoke, behold, a company, and he that was called Judas one of the twelve, went before them, and came near to Jesus to kiss him.
22:48And Jesus said to him, Judas, betray you the Son of man with a kiss?
22:49Now when they who were about him, saw what would follow, they said to him, Kyrios, shall we smite with sword?
22:50And one of them smote a servant of the high Priest, and struck off his right ear.
22:51Then Jesus answered, and said, Suffer them thus far:and he touched his ear,and healed him.
22:52Then Jesus said to the high Priests, and captains of the Temple, and the Elders who were come to him, Be you come out as to a thief with swords and staves?
22:53When I was daily with you in the Temple, you stretched not forth the hands against me:but this is your very hour, and the power of darkness.
22:54Then took they him, and led him, and brought him to the high Priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.
22:55And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter also sat down among them.
22:56And a certain maid saw him as he sat by the fire, and having well looked on him, said, This man was also with him.
22:57But he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.
22:58And after a little while, another man saw him,and said, You are also of them. But Peter said, Man, I am not.
22:59And about the space of an hour after, a certain other affirmed, saying. Verily even this man was with him:for he is also a Galilean.
22:60And Peter said, Man, I know not what you say. And immediately while he yet spoke, the cock crowed.
22:61Then the Kyrios turned back, and looked upon Peter:and Peter remembered the word of the Kyrios, how he had said to him, Before the cock crow, you shall deny me thrice.
22:62And Peter went out,and wept bitterly.
22:63And the men that held Jesus, mocked him,and struck him.
22:64And when they had blindfolded him, they smote him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophecy who it is that smote you.
22:65And many other things blasphemously spoke they against him.
22:66And as soon as it was day, the Elders of the people, and the high Priests and the Scribes came together, and led him into their council,
22:67Saying, Are you that Christos? Tell us. And he said to them, If I tell you, you will not believe it.
22:68And if also I ask you, you will not answer me, nor let me go.
22:69Hereafter shall the Son of man sit at the right hand of the power of Theos.
22:70Then said they all, Are you then the son of Theos? And he said to them, You say, that I am.
22:71Then they said, What need we any further witness? For we ourselves have heard it of his own mouth.
Chapter 23
23:1Then the whole multitude of them arose, and led him to Pilate.
23:2And they began to accuse him, saying, We have found this man perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay tribute to Caesar, saying,That he is Christos a King.
23:3And Pilate asked him, saying, Are you the King of the Jews? And he answered him,and said, You say it.
23:4Then said Pilate to the high Priests, and to the people, I find no fault in this man.
23:5But they were the more fierce, saying, He moves the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning at Galilee, even to this place.
23:6Now when Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilean.
23:7And when he knew that he was of Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, which was also at Jerusalem in those days.
23:8And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad:for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him,and trusted to have seen some sign done by him.
23:9Then questioned he with him of many things:but he answered him nothing.
23:10The high Priests also and Scribes stood forth, and accused him vehemently.
23:11And Herod with his men of war, despised him,and mocked him,and arrayed him in white, and sent him again to Pilate.
23:12And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together:for before they were enemies one to another.
23:13Then Pilate called together the high Priests and the rulers, and the people,
23:14And said to them, You have brought this man to me, as one that perverted the people: and behold, I have examined him before you, and have found no fault in this man, of those things of which you accuse him:
23:15No, nor yet Herod:for I sent you to him:and lo, nothing worthy of death is done of him.
23:16I will therefore chastise him,and let him loose.
23:17(For of necessity he must have let one loose to them at the feast.)
23:18Then all the multitude cried at once, saying, Away with him,and deliver to us Barabbas:
23:19Which for a certain insurrection made in the city, and murder, was cast in prison.
23:20Then Pilate spoke again to them, willing to let Jesus loose.
23:21But they cried, saying, Crucify, crucify him.
23:22And he said to them the third time,But what evil has he done? I find no cause of death in him:I will therefore chastise him,and let him loose.
23:23But they were instant with loud voices, and demanded that he might be crucified:and the voices of them and of the high Priests prevailed.
23:24So Pilate gave sentence, that it should be as they requested.
23:25And he let loose to them him that for insurrection and murder was cast into prison, whom they had asked for,and delivered Jesus to do with him what they would.
23:26And as they led him away, they caught one Simon of Cyrene, coming out of the field, and on him they laid the cross, to bear it after Jesus.
23:27And there followed him a great multitude of people, and of women, who women bewailed and lamented him.
23:28But Jesus turned back to them, and said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me,but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
23:29For behold, the days will come, when men shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts which never nursed.
23:30Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us:and to the hills, Cover us.
23:31For if they do these things to a green tree, what shall be done to the dry?
23:32And there were two others, which were evildoers, led with him to be slain.
23:33And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him,and the evildoers:one at the right hand, and the other at the left.
23:34Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them:for they know not what they do. And they parted his clothing, and cast lots.
23:35And the people stood, and saw:and the rulers mocked him with them, saying, He saved others:let him save himself, if he be that Christos, the Chosen of Theos.
23:36The soldiers also mocked him,and came and offered him vinegar,
23:37And said, If you be the King of the Jews, save yourself.
23:38And an inscription was also written over him, in Greek letters, and in Latin, and in Hebrew, THIS IS THAT KING OF THE JEWS.
23:39And one of the evildoers, which were hanged, railed on him, saying, If you be that Christos, save yourself and us.
23:40But the other answered, and rebuked him, saying, Fear you not Theos, seeing you are in the same condemnation?
23:41We are indeed righteously here:for we receive things worthy of that we have done:but this man has done nothing amiss.
23:42And he said to Jesus, Kyrios, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.
23:43Then Jesus said to him, Assuredly I say to you, today shall you be with me in Paradise.
23:44And it was about the sixth hour:and there was a darkness over all the land, until the ninth hour.
23:45And the Sun was darkened, and the veil of the Temple rent through the midst.
23:46And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and said, Father, into your hands I commend my spirit. And when he thus had said, he expired.
23:47Now when the Centurion saw what was done, he glorified Theos, saying, Of a surety this man was just.
23:48And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things, which were done, smote their breasts, and returned.
23:49And all his acquaintance stood a far off,and the women that followed him from Galilee, beholding these things.
23:50And behold, there was a man named Joseph, which was a counselor, a good man and a just.
23:51He did not consent to the counsel and deed of them, which was of Arimathea, a city of the Jews:who also himself waited for the kingdom of Theos.
23:52He went to Pilate, and asked the body of Jesus,
23:53And took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid it in a tomb hewn out of a rock, in which was never man yet laid.
23:54And that day was the preparation, and the Sabbath drew on.
23:55And the women also that followed after, which came with him from Galilee, saw the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
23:56And they returned and prepared odors, and ointments, and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment.
Chapter 24
24:1Now the first day of the week early in the morning, they came to the spices, and brought the odors, which they had prepared, and certain women with them.
24:2And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre,
24:3And went in,but found not the body of the Kyrios Jesus.
24:4And it came to pass, that as they were amazed at this, behold, two men suddenly stood by them in shining vestures.
24:5And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said to them, Why seek you him that lives, among the dead?
24:6He is not here, but is risen:remember how he spoke to you, when he was yet in Galilee,
24:7Saying,that the son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men,and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
24:8And they remembered his words,
24:9And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things to the eleven, and to all the remnant.
24:10Now it was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women with them, which told these things to the Apostles.
24:11But their words seemed to them, as a and thing, neither believed they them.
24:12Then arose Peter, and ran to the sepulchre, and looked in,and saw the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
24:13And behold, two of them went that same day to a town which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs, called Emmaus.
24:14And they talked together of all these things that were done.
24:15And it came to pass, as they communed together, and reasoned, that Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
24:16But their eyes were restrained, that they could not know him.
24:17And he said to them, What manner of communications are these that you have one to another as you walk and are sad?
24:18And the one (named Cleopas) answered, and said to him, Are you only a stranger in Jerusalem, and have not known the things which are come to pass in it in these days?
24:19And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, Of Jesus of Nazareth, which was a Prophet, mighty indeed and in word before Theos, and all people,
24:20And how the high Priests, and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
24:21But we trusted that it had been he that should have delivered Israel, and as touching all these things, today is the third day, that they were done.
24:22Yes,and certain women among us made us astonished, which came early to the sepulchre.
24:23And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of Angels, who said, that he was alive.
24:24Therefore certain of them which were with us, went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said, but him they saw not.
24:25Then he said to them, O fools and slow of heart to believe all that the Prophets have spoken!
24:26Ought not Christos to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
24:27And he began at Moses, and at all the Prophets, and interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things which were written of him.
24:28And they drew near to the town, which they went to,but he made as though he would have gone further.
24:29But they urged him, saying, Abide with us:for it is toward night, and the day is far spent. So he went in to stay with them.
24:30And it came to pass, as he sat at table with them, he took the bread, and blessed, and broke it,and gave it to them.
24:31Then their eyes were opened, and they knew him:and he was no more seen of them.
24:32And they said between themselves, Did not our hearts burn within us, while he talked with us by the way,and when he opened to us the Scriptures?
24:33And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the Eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
24:34Which said, The Kyrios is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon.
24:35Then they told what things were done in the way,and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.
24:36And as they spoke these things, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, Peace be to you.
24:37But they were abashed and afraid, supposing that they had seen a spirit.
24:38Then he said to them, Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts?
24:39Behold my hands and my feet:for it is I myself:handle me,and see:for a spirit has not flesh and bones, as you see me have.
24:40And when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands and feet.
24:41And while they yet believed not for joy,and wondered, he said to them, Have you here any meat?
24:42And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of a honey combe,
24:43And he took it,and did eat before them.
24:44And he said to them, These are the words, which I spoke to you while I was yet with you, that all must be fulfilled which are written of me in the Law of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms.
24:45Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the Scriptures,
24:46And said to them, Thus is it written, and thus it was necessary for Christos to suffer, and to rise again from the dead the third day,
24:47And that repentance, and remission of sins should be preached in his Name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
24:48Now you are witnesses of these things.
24:49And behold, I do send the promise of my Father upon you:but stay in the city of Jerusalem, until you be clothed with power from a high.
24:50Afterward he lead them out into Bethany, and lift up his hands, and blessed them.
24:51And it came to pass, that as he blessed them, he departed from them, and was carried up into heaven.
24:52And they worshiped him,and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,
24:53And were continually in the Temple, praising, and lauding Theos, Amen.
