Deuteronomy
Chapter 1
1:1These be the words which Moses spoke to all Israel, on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain, over against the red Sea, between Paran and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.
1:2There are eleven days journey from Horeb to Kadesh, by the way of Mount Seir.
1:3And it came to pass in the first day of the eleventh month, in the fortieth year that Moses spoke to the children of Israel according to all that YHWH had given him in commandment to them,
1:4After that he had slain Sihon the king of the Amorites which dwelt in Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, which dwelt at Ashtaroth in Edrei.
1:5On this side Jordan in the land of Moab began Moses to declare this law, saying,
1:6YHWH our Elohim spoke to us in Horeb, saying, You have dwelt long enough in this mount,
1:7Turn you and depart, and go to the mountain of the Amorites, and to all places near thereto in the plain, in the mountain, or in the valley:both Southward, and to the Sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and to Lebanon:even to the great river, the river Great.
1:8Behold, I have set the land before you:go in and possess that land which YHWH swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give to them and to their seed after them.
1:9And I spoke to you the same time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone:
1:10YHWH your Elohim has multiplied you:and behold, you are this day as the stars of heaven in number:
1:11(YHWH Elohim of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as you are,and bless you, as he has promised you)
1:12How can I alone bear your encumbrance and your charge, and your strife?
1:13Bring you men of wisdom and of understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you:
1:14Then you answered me and said, The thing is good that you have commanded us to do.
1:15So I took the chief of your tribes wise and known men,and made them rulers over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifty, and captains over ten,and officers among your tribes.
1:16And I charged your Judges that same time, saying, Hear the controversies between your brethren, and judge righteously between each man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.
1:17You shall have no respect of person in judgment, but shall hear the small well as the great: you shall not fear the face of man: for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring to me, and I will hear it.
1:18Also I commanded you the same time all the things which you should do.
1:19Then we departed from Horeb, and went through all that great and terrible wilderness (as you have seen) by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as YHWH our Elohim commanded us:and we came to Kadesh.
1:20And I said to you, You are come to the mountain of the Amorites, which YHWH our Elohim does give to us.
1:21Behold, YHWH your Elohim has laid the land before you:go up and possess it, as YHWH the Elohim of your fathers has said to you:fear not, neither be discouraged.
1:22Then you came to me every one,and said, We will send men before us, to search us out the land and to bring us word again, what way we must go up by,and to what cities we shall come.
1:23So the saying pleased me well, and I took twelve men of you, of every tribe one.
1:24Who departed, and went up into the mountain, and came to the river Eshcol, and searched out the land.
1:25And took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it to us,and brought us word again, and said, It is a good land, which YHWH our Elohim does give us.
1:26Notwithstanding, you would not go up,but were disobedient to the commandment of YHWH your Elohim,
1:27And murmured in your tents, and said, Because YHWH hated us,therefore has he brought us out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, and to destroy us.
1:28Where shall we go up? Our brethren have discouraged our hearts, saying, The people is greater, and taller than we:the cities are great and walled up to heaven:and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.
1:29But I said to you, Dread not, nor be afraid of them.
1:30YHWH your Elohim, who goes before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did to you in Egypt before your eyes,
1:31And in the wilderness, where you have seen how YHWH your Elohim bore you, as a man does bear his son, in all the way which you have gone, until you came to this place.
1:32Yet for all this you did not believe YHWH your Elohim,
1:33Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, that you might see what way to go,and in a cloud by day.
1:34Then YHWH heard the voice of your words, and was angry, and swore, saying,
1:35Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation, see that good land, which I swore to give to your fathers,
1:36Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh:he shall see it,and to him will I give the land that he has walked upon, and to his children, because he has constantly followed YHWH.
1:37Also YHWH was angry with me for your sakes, saying, You also shall not go in there,
1:38But Joshua the son of Nun which stands before you, he shall go in there:encourage him:for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.
1:39Moreover, your children, who you said should be a prey, and your sons, who in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in there, and to them will I give it,and they shall possess it.
1:40But as for you, turn back, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the red Sea.
1:41Then you answered and said to me, We have sinned against YHWH, we will go up,and fight, according to all that YHWH our Elohim has commanded us:and you armed you every man to the war,and were ready to go up into the mountain.
1:42But YHWH said to me, Say to them, Go not up,neither fight, (for I am not among you) lest you fall before your enemies.
1:43And when I told you, you would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of YHWH,and were presumptuous, and went up into the mountain.
1:44Then the Amorites which dwelt in that mountain came out against you,and chased you (as bees use to do) and destroyed you in Seir, even to Hormah.
1:45And when you came again, you wept before YHWH,but YHWH would not hear your voice, nor incline his ears to you.
1:46So you abode in Kadesh a long time, according to the time that you had remained before.
Chapter 2
2:1Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness, by the way of the red Sea, as YHWH spoke to me:and we compassed mount Seir a long time.
2:2And YHWH spoke to me, saying,
2:3You have compassed this mountain long enough:turn northward.
2:4And command the people, saying, You shall go through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir, and they shall be afraid of you: take you good heed therefore.
2:5You shall not provoke them:for I will not give you of their land so much as a foot breadth, because I have given mount Seir to Esau for a possession.
2:6You shall buy meat of them for money to eat,and you shall also procure water of them for money to drink.
2:7For YHWH your Elohim has blessed you in all the works of your hand:he knows your walking through this great wilderness, and YHWH your Elohim has been with you this forty year, and you have lacked nothing.
2:8And when we were departed from our brethren the children of Esau which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain, from Elath, and from Ezion, we turned and went by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
2:9Then YHWH said to me, You shall not vex Moab, neither provoke them to battle:for I will not give you of their land for a possession, because I have given Ar to the children of Lot for a possession.
2:10The Emim dwelt in it in times past, a people great and many, and tall, as the Anakim.
2:11They also were taken for giants as the Anakim:whom the Moabites call Emim.
2:12The Horites also dwelt in Seir before time, whom the children of Esau chased out and destroyed them before them, and dwelt in their stead:as Israel shall do to the land of his possession, which YHWH has given them.
2:13Now rise up, said I,and get you over the river Zered:and we went over the river Zered.
2:14The space also in which we came from Kadesh, until we were come over the river Zered, was eight and thirty years, until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as YHWH swore to them.
2:15For indeed the hand of YHWH was against them, to destroy them from among the host, till they were consumed.
2:16So when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people:
2:17Then YHWH spoke to me, saying,
2:18You shall go through Ar the coast of Moab this day:
2:19And you shall come near over against the children of Ammon:but shall not lay siege to them, nor move war against them:for I will not give you of the land of the children of Ammon any possession:for I have given it to the children of Lot for a possession.
2:20That also was taken for a land of giants: for giants dwelt in it formerly, whom the Ammonites called Zamzummim:
2:21A people that was great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim:but YHWH destroyed them before them, and they succeeded them in their inheritance, and dwelt in their stead:
2:22As he did to the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites before them, and they possessed them, and dwelt in their stead to this day.
2:23And the Avim which dwelt in Caphtorim even to Azzah, the Caphtorim which came out of Caphtor destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.
2:24Rise up therefore, said the Lord:take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon:behold, I have given into your hand Sihon, the Amorite, King of Heshbon, and his land:begin to possess it and provoke him to battle.
2:25This day will I begin to send your fear and your dread, upon all people under the whole heaven, which shall hear your fame, and shall tremble and quake before you.
2:26Then I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon King of Heshbon, with words of peace, saying,
2:27Let me pass through your land:I will go by the high way:I will neither turn to the right hand nor to the left.
2:28You shall sell me food for money,to eat,and shall give me water for money to drink:only I will go through on my foot,
2:29(As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did to me) until I be come over Jordan, into the land which YHWH our Elohim gives us.
2:30But Sihon the King of Heshbon would not let us pass by him:for YHWH your Elohim had hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, because he would deliver him into your hand, as appears this day.
2:31And YHWH said to me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before you:begin to possess and inherit his land.
2:32Then came out Sihon to meet us, himself with all his people to fight at Jahaz.
2:33But YHWH our Elohim delivered him into our power, and we smote him,and his sons, and all his people.
2:34And we took all his cities the same time, and destroyed every city, men,and women, and children:we let nothing remain.
2:35Only the cattle we took to ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took,
2:36From Aroer, which is by the bank of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is upon the river, even to Gilead:there was not one city that escaped us:for YHWH our Elohim delivered up all before us.
2:37Only to the land of the children of Ammon you came not, nor to any place of the river Jabbok, nor to the cities in the mountains, nor to whatever YHWH our Elohim commanded us not to approach.
3:1Then we turned, and went up by the way of Bashan:and Og King of Bashan came out against us, he,and all his people to fight at Edrei.
3:2And YHWH said to me, Fear him not,for I will deliver him,and all his people, and his land into your hand, and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon King of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
3:3So YHWH our Elohim delivered also to our hand, Og the King of Bashan, and all his people:and we smote him, until none was left him alive,
3:4And we took all his cities the same time, neither was there a city which we took not from them, even three score cities, and all the country of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
3:5All these cities were fenced with high walls, gates and bars, beside unwalled towns a great many.
3:6And we overthrew them, as we did to Sihon King of Heshbon, destroying every city, with men, women, and children.
3:7But all the cattle and the spoil of the cities we took for ourselves.
3:8Thus we took at that time out of the hand of two Kings of the Amorites, the land that was on this side Jordan from the river of Arnon to mount Hermon:
3:9(Which Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion, but the Amorites call it Senir)
3:10All the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan to Salcah, and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
3:11For only Og King of Bashan remained of the remnant of the giants, whose bed was a bed of iron: is it not at Rabbah among the children of Ammon? The length of it is nine cubits, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.
3:12And this land which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river of Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities of it, gave I to the Reubenites and Gadites.
3:13And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, gave I to the half tribe of Manasseh:even all the country of Argob with all Bashan, which is called, The land of giants.
3:14Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob, to the coasts of Geshurites, and of Maachathites:and called them after his own name, Bashan, Havoth Jair to this day.
3:15And I gave part of Gilead to Machir.
3:16And to the Reubenites and Gadites I gave the rest of Gilead, and to the river of Arnon, half the river and the borders, even to the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon:
3:17The plain also and Jordan, and the borders from Chinnereth even to the Sea of the plain, namely, the salt Sea under the springs of Pisgah Eastward.
3:18And I commanded you the same time, saying, YHWH your Elohim has given you this land to possess it:you shall go over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all men of war.
3:19Your wives only, and your children, and your cattle (for I know that you have much cattle) shall abide in your cities, which I have given you,
3:20Until YHWH have given rest to your brethren as to you,and that they also possess the land, which YHWH your Elohim has given them beyond Jordan:then shall you return every man to his possession, which I have given you.
3:21And I charged Joshua the same time, saying, Your eyes have seen all that YHWH your Elohim has done to these two Kings:so shall YHWH do to all the kingdoms where you go.
3:22You shall not fear them:for YHWH your Elohim, he shall fight for you.
3:23And I implored YHWH the same time, saying,
3:24O Adonai YHWH, you have begun to show your servant your greatness and your mighty hand:for where is there a God in heaven or in earth, that can do like your works, and like your power?
3:25please let me go over and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.
3:26But YHWH was angry with me for your sakes, and would not hear me:and YHWH said to me, Let it suffice you, speak no more to me of this matter.
3:27Go up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up your eyes Westward, and Northward, and Southward, and Eastward, and behold it with your eyes, for you shall not go over this Jordan:
3:28But charge Joshua, and encourage him,and bolden him:for he shall go before this people, and he shall divide for inheritance to them, the land which you shall see.
3:29So we abode in the valley over against Peor.
Chapter 4
4:1Now therefore listen, O Israel, to the ordinances and to the laws which I teach you to do,that you may live and go in,and possess the land, which YHWH Elohim of your fathers gives you.
4:2You shall put nothing to the word which I command you, neither shall you take anything from it,that you may keep the commandments of YHWH your Elohim which I command you.
4:3Your eyes have seen what YHWH did because of Peor, for all the men that followed Peor YHWH your Elohim has destroyed every one from among you.
4:4But you that did cleave to YHWH your Elohim, are alive every one of you this day.
4:5Behold, I have taught the ordinances, and laws, as YHWH my Elohim commanded me,that you should do even so within the land where you go to possess it.
4:6Keep them therefore, and do them;for that is your wisdom, and your understanding in the sight of the people, who shall hear all these ordinances, and shall say, Only this people is wise, and of understanding, and a great nation.
4:7For what nation is so great, to whom the gods come so near to them, as YHWH our Elohim is near to us, in all that we call to him for?
4:8And what nation is so great, that has statutes and judgments so righteous, as all this Law, which I set before you this day?
4:9But take heed to yourself, and keep your nephesh diligently, that you forget not the things which your eyes have seen, and that they depart not out of your heart, all the days of your life:but teach them your sons, and your sons sons:
4:10Forget not the day that you stood before YHWH your Elohim in Horeb, when YHWH said to me, Gather me the people together, and I will cause them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children:
4:11Then came you near and stood under the mountain, and the mountain burnt with fire to the heart of heaven, and there was darkness, clouds and mist.
4:12And YHWH spoke to you out of the midst of the fire, and you heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude, save a voice.
4:13Then he declared to you his covenant which he commanded you to do, even the ten commandments, and wrote them upon two tables of stone.
4:14And YHWH commanded me that same time, that I should teach the statutes and judgments, which you should observe in the land, where you go, to possess it.
4:15Take therefore good heed to your nepheshes:for you saw no image in the day that YHWH spoke to you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire:
4:16That you corrupt not yourselves, and make for yourselves a graven image or representation of any figure:where it be the likeness of male or female,
4:17The likeness of any beast that is on earth, or the likeness of any feathered fowl that flies in the air:
4:18Or the likeness of anything that creeps on the earth, or the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth,
4:19And lest you lift up your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars with all the host of heaven, should be driven to worship them and serve them, which YHWH your Elohim has distributed to all people under the whole heaven.
4:20But YHWH has taken you and brought you out of the iron furnace:out of Egypt to be to him a people and inheritance, as appears this day.
4:21And YHWH was angry with me for your words, and swore that I should not go over Jordan, and that I should not go in to that good land, which YHWH your Elohim gives you for an inheritance.
4:22For I must die in this land, and shall not go over Jordan:but you shall go over, and possess that good land.
4:23Take heed to yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of YHWH your Elohim who he made with you,and lest you make for yourselves any graven image, or likeness of anything, as YHWH your Elohim has charged you.
4:24For YHWH your Elohim is a consuming fire, and a jealous El.
4:25When you shall beget children and children children, and shall have remained long in the land, if you corrupt yourselves, and make any graven image, or likeness of anything, and work evil in the sight of YHWH your Elohim, to provoke him to anger,
4:26I call heaven and earth to record against you this day, that you shall shortly perish from the land, to what you go over Jordan to possess it: you shall not prolong your days in it, but shall utterly be destroyed.
4:27And YHWH shall scatter you among the people, and you shall be left few in number among the nations, where YHWH shall bring you:
4:28And there you shall serve gods, even the work of man's hand, wood, and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.
4:29But if from there you shall seek YHWH your Elohim, you shall find him, if you seek him with all your heart, and with all your nephesh.
4:30When you are in tribulation, and all these things are come upon you, at the length if you return to YHWH your Elohim, and be obedient to his voice,
4:31(For YHWH your Elohim is a merciful El) he will not forsake you, neither destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers, which he swore to them.
4:32For inquire now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that Elohim created man upon the earth, and ask from the one end of heaven to the other, if there came to pass such a great thing as this, or whether any such like thing has been heard.
4:33Did ever people hear the voice of Elohim speaking out of the midst of a fire, as you have heard, and lived?
4:34Or has Elohim ever attempted to go and take him a nation from among nations, by nation, by signs, and by wonders, and by war,and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm,and by great fear, according to all that YHWH your Elohim did to you in Egypt before your eyes?
4:35To you it was showed, that you might know, that YHWH he is Elohim, and that there is none but he alone.
4:36Out of heaven he made you hear his voice to instruct you,and upon earth he showed you his great fire, and you heard his voice out of the midst of the fire.
4:37And because he loved your fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and has brought you out of Egypt in his sight by his mighty power,
4:38To thrust out nations greater and mightier than you, before you, to bring you in,and to give you their land for inheritance:as appears this day.
4:39Understand therefore this day,and consider in your heart, that YHWH, he is Elohim in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath:there is none other.
4:40You shall keep therefore his ordinances, and his commandments which I command you this day, that it may go well with you,and with your children after you,and that you may prolong your days upon the earth, which YHWH your Elohim gives you forever.
4:41Then Moses separated three cities on this side of Jordan toward the sun rising:
4:42That the slayer should flee there, which had killed his neighbor without knowledge, and hated him not in time past, might flee, I say, to one of those cities, and live:
4:43That is, Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country of the Reubenites:and Ramoth in Gilead among the Gadites:and Golan in Bashan among them of Manasseh.
4:44So this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel.
4:45These are the witnesses, and the ordinances, and the laws which Moses declared to the children of Israel after they came out of Egypt,
4:46On this side Jordan, in the valley over against Beth, in the land of Sihon King of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote, after they were come out of Egypt:
4:47And they possessed his land, and the land of Og King of Bashan, two Kings of the Amorites, which were on this side Jordan toward the sun rising:
4:48From Aroer, which is by the bank of the river Arnon, even to mount Sion, which is Hermon,
4:49And all the plain by Jordan Eastward, even to the Sea, of the plain, under the springs of Pisgah.
Chapter 5
5:1Then Moses called all Israel, and said to them, Hear, O Israel, the ordinances and the laws which I propose to you this day, that you may learn them, and take heed to observe them.
5:2YHWH our Elohim made a covenant with us in Horeb.
5:3YHWH made not this covenant with our fathers only, but with us, even with us all here alive this day.
5:4YHWH talked with you face to face in the Mount, out of the midst of the fire.
5:5(At that time I stood between YHWH and you, to declare to you the word of YHWH:for you were afraid at the sight of the fire, and went not up into the mount, and he said,
5:6I am YHWH your Elohim, who have brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
5:7You shall have none other gods before my face.
5:8You shall make for yourself no graven image or any likeness of that that is in heaven above, or which is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters under the earth.
5:9You shall neither bow yourself to them, nor serve them:for I YHWH your Elohim am a jealous El, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, even to the third and fourth generation of them that hate me:
5:10And showing chesed to thousands of them that love me,and keep my commandments.
5:11You shall not take the Name of YHWH your Elohim in vain:for YHWH will not hold him guiltless that takes his Name in vain.
5:12Keep the Sabbath day, to sanctify it, as YHWH your Elohim has commanded you.
5:13Six days you shall labor, and shall do all your work:
5:14But the seventh day is the Sabbath of YHWH your Elohim: you shall not do any work in it, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your man servant, nor your maid, nor your ox, nor your donkey, neither any of your cattle, nor the stranger that is within your gates: that your man servant and your maid may rest well as you.
5:15For, remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and that YHWH your Elohim brought you out from there by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm:therefore YHWH your Elohim commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.
5:16Honor your father and your mother, as YHWH your Elohim has commanded you, that your days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with you upon the land, which YHWH your Elohim gives you.
5:17You shall not kill.
5:18Neither shall you commit adultery.
5:19Neither shall you steal.
5:20Neither shall you bear false witness against your neighbor.
5:21Neither shall you covet your neighbors wife, neither shall you desire your neighbors house, his field, nor his man servant, nor his maid, his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that your neighbor has.
5:22These words YHWH spoke to all your multitude in the mount out of the midst of the fire, the cloud and the darkness, with a great voice, and added no more thereto:and wrote them upon two tables of stone, and delivered them to me.
5:23And when you heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire) then you came to me, all the chief of your tribes, and your Elders:
5:24And you said, Behold, YHWH our Elohim has showed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire:we have seen this day that Elohim does talk with man,and he lives.
5:25Now therefore, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us:if we hear the voice of YHWH our Elohim any more, we shall die.
5:26For what flesh was there ever, that heard the voice of the living Elohim speaking out of the midst of the fire as we have, and lived?
5:27Go near and hear all that YHWH our Elohim says:and declare to us all that YHWH our Elohim says to you,and we will hear it,and do it.
5:28Then YHWH heard the voice of your words, when you spoke to me:and YHWH said to me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, who they have spoken to you:they have well said, all that they have spoken.
5:29Oh that there were such a heart in them to fear me,and to keep all my commandments always:that it might go well with them, and with their children forever.
5:30Go, say to them, Return you into your tents.
5:31But stand here with me,and I will tell you all the commandments, and the ordinances, and the laws, which you shall teach them:that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.
5:32Take heed therefore, that you do as YHWH your Elohim has commanded you:turn not aside to the right hand nor to the left,
5:33But walk in all the ways which YHWH your Elohim has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may go well with you:and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess.
Chapter 6
6:1These now are the commandments, ordinances, and laws, which YHWH your Elohim commanded me to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you go to possess it:
6:2That you might fear YHWH your Elohim, and keep all his ordinances, and his commandments which I command you, you,and your son,and your sons son all the days of your life, even that your days may be prolonged.
6:3Hear therefore, O Israel, and take heed to do it,that it may go well with you,and that you may increase mightily in the land that flows with milk and honey, as YHWH Elohim of your fathers has promised you.
6:4Hear, O Israel, YHWH our Elohim is YHWH only,
6:5And you shall love YHWH your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your nephesh, and with all your might.
6:6And these words which I command you this day, shall be in your heart.
6:7And you shall rehearse them continually to your children, and shall talk of them when you stay in your house, and as you walk by the way,and when you lie down, and when you rise up:
6:8And you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
6:9Also you shall write them upon the posts of your house, and upon your gates.
6:10And when YHWH your Elohim has brought you into the land, which he swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give to you, with great and goodly cities which you built not,
6:11And houses full of all manner of goods which you filled not,and wells digged which you dug not, vineyards and olive trees which you planted not,and when you have eaten and are full,
6:12Beware lest you forget YHWH, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
6:13You shall fear YHWH your Elohim, and serve him,and shall swear by his Name.
6:14You shall not walk after other gods, after any of the gods of the people who are round about you,
6:15(For YHWH your Elohim is a jealous Elohim among you:) lest the wrath of YHWH your God be kindled against you,and destroy you from the face of the earth.
6:16You shall not tempt YHWH your Elohim, as you did tempt him in Massah:
6:17But you shall keep diligently the commandments of YHWH your Elohim, and his testimonies, and his ordinances which he has commanded you,
6:18And you shall do that which is right and good in the sight of YHWH:that you may prosper, and that you may go in,and possess that good land which YHWH swore to your fathers,
6:19To cast out all your enemies before you, as YHWH has said.
6:20When your son shall ask you in time to come, saying, What mean these testimonies, and ordinances, and Laws, which YHWH our Elohim has commanded you?
6:21Then shall you say to your son, We were Pharaohs bondmen in Egypt:but YHWH brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
6:22And YHWH showed signs and wonders great and evil upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes,
6:23And brought us out from there, to bring us in,and to give us the land which he swore to our fathers.
6:24Therefore YHWH has commanded us, to do all these ordinances, and to fear YHWH our Elohim, that it may go ever well with us,and that he may preserve us alive as at this present.
6:25Moreover, this shall be our righteousness before YHWH our Elohim, if we take heed to keep all these commandments, as he has commanded us.
Chapter 7
7:1When YHWH your Elohim shall bring you into the land where you go to possess it,and shall root out many nations before you:the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you,
7:2And YHWH your Elohim shall give them before you, then you shall smite them:you shall utterly destroy them:you shall make no covenant with them, nor show favor to them,
7:3Neither shall you make marriages with them, neither give your daughter to his son, nor take his daughter to your son.
7:4For they will cause your son to turn away from me,and to serve other gods:then will the wrath of YHWH burn hot against you and destroy you suddenly.
7:5But thus you shall deal with them, You shall overthrow their altars, and break down their pillars, and you shall cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.
7:6For you are a holy people to YHWH your Elohim, YHWH your Elohim has chosen you, to be a precious people to himself, above all people that are upon the earth.
7:7YHWH did not set his love upon you, nor chose you, because you were more in number than any people:for you were the fewest of all people:
7:8But because YHWH loved you,and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn to your fathers, YHWH has brought you out by a mighty hand, and delivered you out of the house of bondage from the hand of Pharaoh King of Egypt,
7:9That you may know, that YHWH your Elohim, he is Elohim, the faithful El who keeps covenant and chesed to them that love him and keep his commandments, even to a thousand generations,
7:10And rewards them to their face that hate him, to bring them to destruction:he will not defer to reward him that hates him, to his face.
7:11Keep therefore the commandments, and the ordinances, and the laws, which I command you this day to do them.
7:12For if you listen to these laws, and observe and do them, then YHWH your Elohim shall keep with you the covenant, and the chesed which he swore to your fathers.
7:13And he will love you,and bless you,and multiply you:he will also bless the fruit of your womb, and the fruit of your land, your grain and your wine, and your oil and the increase of your cattle, and the flocks of your sheep in the land, which he swore to your fathers to give you.
7:14You shall be blessed above all people:there shall be neither male nor female barren among you, nor among your cattle.
7:15Moreover, YHWH will take away from you all infirmities, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt (which you know) upon you,but will send them upon all that hate you.
7:16You shall therefore consume all people who YHWH your Elohim shall give you:your eye shall not spare them, neither shall you serve their gods, for that shall be your destruction.
7:17If you say in your heart, These nations are more than I, how can I cast them out?
7:18You shall not fear them, but remember what YHWH your Elohim did to Pharaoh, and to all Egypt:
7:19The great temptations which your eyes saw, and the signs and wonders, and the mighty hand and stretched out arm, by which YHWH your Elohim brought you out: so shall YHWH your Elohim do to all the people, whose face you fear.
7:20Moreover, YHWH your Elohim will send hornets among them until they that are left, and hide themselves from you, be destroyed.
7:21You shall not fear them:for YHWH your Elohim is among you, a mighty and dreadful El.
7:22And YHWH your Elohim will root out these nations before you by little and little:you may not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon you.
7:23But YHWH your Elohim shall give them before you,and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they are destroyed.
7:24And he shall deliver their Kings into your hand, and you shall destroy their name from under heaven:there shall no man be able to stand before you, until you have destroyed them.
7:25The graven images of their gods shall you burn with fire, and covet not the silver and gold, that is on them, nor take it for yourself, lest you be snared with it: for it is an abomination before YHWH your Elohim.
7:26Do not bring therefore abomination into your house, lest, you be accursed like it,but utterly abhor it,and count it most abominable:for it is accursed.
Chapter 8
8:1You shall keep all the commandments which I command you this day,for to do them:that you may live, and be multiplied, and go in,and possess the land which YHWH swore to your fathers.
8:2And you shall remember all the way which YHWH your Elohim led you this forty year in the wilderness, for to humble you and to prove you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or no.
8:3Therefore he humbled you,and made you hungry, and fed you with manna, who you knew not, neither did your fathers know it,that he might teach you that man lives not by bread only, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of YHWH, does a man live.
8:4Your clothing did not grow old upon you, neither did your foot swell those forty years.
8:5Know therefore in your heart, that as a man nurtures his son, so YHWH your Elohim nurtures you.
8:6Therefore shall you keep the commandments of YHWH your Elohim, that you may walk in his ways, and fear him.
8:7For YHWH your Elohim brings you into a good land, a land in the which are rivers of water and fountains, and depths that spring out of valleys and mountains:
8:8A land of wheat and barley, and of vineyards, and trees, and pomegranates: a land of olive oil and honey:
8:9A land in which you shall eat bread without scarcity, neither shall you lack anything in it: a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose mountains you shall dig brass.
8:10And when you have eaten and filled yourself, you shall bless YHWH your Elohim for the good land, which he has given you.
8:11Beware that you forget not YHWH your Elohim, not keeping his commandments, and his laws, and his ordinances, which I command you this day:
8:12Lest when you have eaten and filled yourself, and have built goodly houses and dwelt in it,
8:13And your beasts, and your sheep are increased, and your silver and gold is multiplied, and all that you have is increased,
8:14Then your heart be lifted up and you forget YHWH your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage,
8:15Who was your guide in the great and terrible wilderness (in which were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where was no water, who brought forth water for you out of the rock of flint:
8:16Who fed you in the wilderness with manna, who your fathers knew not) to humble you,and to prove you, that he might do you good at your latter end.
8:17Beware lest you say in your heart, My power, and the strength of my own hand has prepared me this abundance.
8:18But remember YHWH your Elohim:for it is he who gives you power to get substance to establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as appears this day.
8:19And if you forget YHWH your Elohim, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify to you this day that you shall surely perish.
8:20As the nations which YHWH destroys before you, so you shall perish, because you would not be obedient to the voice of YHWH your Elohim.
Chapter 9
9:1Hear O Israel, You shall pass over Jordan this day, to go in and to possess nations greater and mightier than yourself, and cities great and walled up to heaven,
9:2A people great and tall, even the children of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you have heard say, Who can stand before the children of Anak?
9:3Understand therefore that this day YHWH your Elohim is he who goes over before you as a consuming fire:he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before your face:so you shall cast them out and destroy them suddenly, as YHWH has said to you.
9:4Speak not you in your heart (after that YHWH your Elohim has cast them out before you) saying,For my righteousness YHWH has brought me in, to possess this land:but for the wickedness of these nations YHWH has cast them out before you.
9:5For you enter not to inherit their land for your righteousness, or for your upright heart:but for the wickedness of those nations, YHWH your Elohim does cast them out before you,and that he might perform the word which YHWH your God swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
9:6Understand therefore, that YHWH your Elohim gives you not this good land to possess it for your righteousness:for you are a stiff-necked people.
9:7Remember,and forget not, how you provoked YHWH your Elohim to anger in the wilderness:since the day that you did depart out of the land of Egypt, until you came to this place you have rebelled against YHWH.
9:8Also in Horeb you provoked YHWH to anger so that YHWH was angry with you, even to destroy you.
9:9When I was gone up into the mount, to receive the tables of stone, the tables, I say, of the covenant, which YHWH made with you:and I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, and I neither ate bread nor yet drank water:
9:10Then YHWH delivered me two tables of stone, written with the finger of Elohim, and in them was contained according to all the words which YHWH had said to you in the mount out of the midst of the fire, in the day of the assembly.
9:11And when the forty days and forty nights were ended, YHWH gave me the two tables of stone, the tables, I say, of the covenant.
9:12And YHWH said to me, Arise, go down quickly from here:for your people who you have brought out of Egypt, have corrupt their ways:they are soon turned out of the way, which I commanded them:they have made them a molten image.
9:13Furthermore, YHWH spoke to me, saying, I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people.
9:14Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and put out their name from under heaven, and I will make of you a mighty nation, and greater than they be.
9:15So I returned, and came down from the Mount (and the Mount burnt with fire, and the two Tables of the covenant were in my two hands)
9:16Then I looked, and behold, you had sinned against YHWH your Elohim:for you had made for yourselves a molten calf, and had turned quickly out of the way which YHWH had commanded you.
9:17Therefore I took the two Tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.
9:18And I fell down before YHWH, forty days, and forty nights, as before:I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sins, which you had committed, in doing wickedly in the sight of YHWH, in that you provoked him to wrath.
9:19(For I was afraid of the wrath and indignation, with what YHWH was moved against you, even to destroy you) yet YHWH heard me at that time also.
9:20Likewise YHWH was very angry with Aaron, even to destroy him:but at that time I prayed also for Aaron.
9:21And I took your sin, I mean the calf which you had made, and burnt him with fire, and stamped him and ground him small, even to very dust: and I cast the dust of it into the river, that descended out of the mount.
9:22Also in Taberah, and in Massah and in Kibroth you provoked YHWH to anger.
9:23Likewise when YHWH sent you from Kadesh, saying, Go up,and possess the land which I have given you, then you rebelled against the commandment of YHWH your Elohim, and believed him not, nor listened to his voice.
9:24You have been rebellious to YHWH, since the day that I knew you.
9:25Then I fell down before YHWH forty days and forty nights, as I fell down before, because YHWH had said, that he would destroy you.
9:26And I prayed to YHWH,and said, O Adonai YHWH, destroy not your people and your inheritance, which you have redeemed through your greatness, whom you have brought out of Egypt by a mighty hand.
9:27Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob:look not to the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin,
9:28Lest the country, from where you brought them, say, Because YHWH was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, or because he hated them, he carried them out, to slay them in the wilderness.
9:29Yet they are your people, and your inheritance, which you brought out by your mighty power, and by Your outstretched arm.
Chapter 10
10:1In the same time YHWH said to me, Hew you two Tables of stone like to the first, and come up to me into the Mount, and make for yourself an Ark of wood,
10:2And I will write upon the Tables the words that were upon the first Tables, which you broke, and you shall put them in the Ark.
10:3And I made an Ark of acacia wood, and hewed two Tables of stone like to the first, and went up into the Mountain, and the two Tables in my hand.
10:4Then he wrote upon the Tables according to the first writing (the ten commandments, which YHWH spoke to you in the Mount out of the midst of the fire, in the day of the assembly) and YHWH gave them to me.
10:5And I departed, and came down from the Mount, and put the Tables in the Ark which I had made:and there they be, as YHWH commanded me.
10:6And the children of Israel took their journey from Bene of the children of Jaakan to Moserah, where Aaron died, and was buried, and Eleazar his son became Priest in his stead.
10:7From there they departed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah a land of running waters.
10:8The same time YHWH separated the tribe of Levi to bear the Ark of the covenant of YHWH,and to stand before YHWH, to minister to him,and to bless in his Name to this day.
10:9Therefore Levi has no part nor inheritance with his brethren:for YHWH is his inheritance, as YHWH your Elohim has promised him.
10:10And I stayed in the mount, as at the first time, forty days and forty nights, and YHWH heard me at that time also, and YHWH would not destroy you.
10:11But YHWH said to me, Arise, go forth in the journey before the people, that they may go in and possess the land, which I swore to their fathers to give to them.
10:12And now, Israel, what does YHWH your Elohim require of you,but to fear YHWH your Elohim, to walk in all his ways, and to love him,and to serve YHWH your Elohim, with all your heart, and with all your nephesh?
10:13That you keep the commandments of YHWH,and his ordinances, which I command you this day,for your wealth?
10:14Behold, heaven, and the heaven of heavens is YHWH's your Elohim, and the earth, with all that in it is.
10:15Notwithstanding, YHWH set his delight in your fathers to love them, and did choose their seed after them, even you above all people, as appears this day.
10:16Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and harden your necks no more.
10:17For YHWH your Elohim is Elohim of gods, and Adonai of lords, a great El, mighty and terrible, which accepts no persons nor takes reward:
10:18Who does right to the fatherless and widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing.
10:19Love you therefore the stranger:for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
10:20You shall fear YHWH your Elohim:you shall serve him,and you shall cleave to him,and shall swear by his Name.
10:21He is your praise, and he is your Elohim, that has done for you these great and terrible things, which your eyes have seen.
10:22Your fathers went down into Egypt with seventy nepheshes, and now YHWH your Elohim has made you, as the stars of the heaven in multitude.
Chapter 11
11:1Therefore you shall love YHWH your Elohim, and shall keep that, which he commands to be kept:that is, his ordinances, and his laws, and his commandments always.
11:2And consider this day (for I speak not to your children, who have neither known nor seen) the chastisement of YHWH your Elohim, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his stretched out arm,
11:3And his signs, and his acts, which he did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh the King of Egypt and to all his land:
11:4And what he did to the host of the Egyptians, to their horses, and to their chariots, when he caused the waters of the red Sea to overflow them, as they pursued after you,and YHWH destroyed them to this day:
11:5And what he did to you in the wilderness, until you came to this place:
11:6And what he did to Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab the son of Reuben, when the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them with their households and their tents, and all their substance that they had in the midst of all Israel.
11:7For your eyes have seen all the great acts of YHWH who he did.
11:8Therefore shall you keep all the commandments, which I command you this day, that you may be strong, and go in and possess the land where you go to possess it:
11:9Also that you may prolong your days in the land, which YHWH swore to your fathers, to give to them and to their seed, even a land that flows with milk and honey.
11:10For the land where you go to possess it, is not as the land of Egypt, from where you came, where you sowed your seed, and watered it with your feet as a garden of herbs:
11:11But the land where you go to possess it, is a land of mountains and valleys, and drinks water of the rain of heaven.
11:12This land does YHWH your Elohim care for:the eyes of YHWH your Elohim are always upon it, from the beginning of the year, even to the end of the year.
11:13If you shall listen therefore to my commandments, which I command you this day, that you love YHWH your Elohim and serve him with all your heart, and with all your nephesh,
11:14I also will give rain to your land in due time, the first rain and the latter, that you may gather in your wheat, and your wine, and your oil.
11:15Also I will send grass in your fields, for your cattle, that you may eat,and have in.
11:16But beware lest your heart deceive you,and lest you turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them,
11:17And so the anger of YHWH be kindled against you,and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that your land yield not her fruit, and you perish quickly from the good land, which YHWH gives you.
11:18Therefore shall you lay up these my words in your heart and in your nephesh, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes,
11:19And you shall teach them your children, speaking of them, when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way,and when you lie down, and when you rise up.
11:20And you shall write them upon the posts of your house, and upon your gates,
11:21That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which YHWH swore to your fathers to give them, as long as the heavens are above the earth.
11:22For if you keep diligently all these commandments, which I command you to do:that is, to love YHWH your Elohim, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave to him,
11:23Then will YHWH cast out all these nations before you,and you shall possess great nations and mightier than you.
11:24All the places on which the soles of your feet shall tread, shall be yours: your coast shall be from the wilderness and from Lebanon, and from the River, even the river Perath, to the uttermost Sea.
11:25No man shall stand against you:for YHWH your Elohim shall cast the fear and dread of you upon all the land that you shall tread upon, as he has said to you.
11:26Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse:
11:27The blessing, if you obey the commandments of YHWH your Elohim which I command you this day:
11:28And you curse, if you will not obey the commandments of YHWH your Elohim, but turn out of the way, which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which you have not known.
11:29When YHWH your Elohim therefore has brought you into the land, where you go to possess it, then you shall put the blessing upon mount Gerizim, and the curse upon mount Ebal.
11:30Are they not beyond Jordan on that part, where the sun goes down in the land of the Canaanites, which dwell in the plain over against Gilgal, beside the grove of Moreh?
11:31For you shall pass over Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which YHWH your Elohim gives you, and you shall possess it, and dwell in it.
11:32Take heed therefore that you do all the commandments and the laws, which I set before you this day.
Chapter 12
12:1These are the ordinances and the laws, which you shall observe and do in the land (which YHWH Elohim of your fathers gives you to possess it) as long as you live upon the earth.
12:2You shall utterly destroy all the places in which the nations which you shall possess, served their gods upon the high mountains and upon the hills, and under every green tree.
12:3Also you shall overthrow their altars, and break down their pillars, and burn their groves with fire:and you shall hew down you graven images of their gods, and abolish their names out of that place.
12:4You shall not do so to YHWH your Elohim,
12:5But you shall seek the place which YHWH your Elohim shall chose out of all your tribes, to put his Name there, and there to dwell, and there you shall come,
12:6And you shall bring there your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and the offering of your hands, and your vows, and your free offerings, and the firstborn of your cattle and of your sheep.
12:7And there you shall eat before YHWH your Elohim, and you shall rejoice in all that you put your hand to, both you,and your households, because YHWH your Elohim has blessed you.
12:8You shall not do after all these things that we do here this day:that is, every man whatever seems him good in his own eyes.
12:9For you are not yet come to rest, and to the inheritance which YHWH your Elohim gives you.
12:10But when you go over Jordan, and dwell in the land, which YHWH your Elohim has given you to inherit, and when he has given you rest from all your enemies round about, and you dwell in safety,
12:11When there shall be a place which YHWH your Elohim shall chose, to cause his name to dwell there, there shall you bring all that I command you:your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the offering of your hands, and all your special vows which you vow to YHWH:
12:12And you shall rejoice before YHWH your Elohim, you,and your sons and your daughters, and your servants, and your maidens, and the Levite that is within your gates:for he has no part nor inheritance with you.
12:13Take heed that you offer not your burnt offerings in every place that you see:
12:14But in the place which YHWH shall chose in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I command you.
12:15Notwithstanding you may kill and eat flesh in all your gates, whatever your nephesh desires, according to the blessing of YHWH your Elohim who he has given you:both the unclean and the clean may eat of it, as of the gazelle, and of the deer.
12:16Only you shall not eat the blood, but pour it upon the earth as water.
12:17You may not eat within your gates the tithe of your grain, nor of your wine, nor of your oil, nor the firstborn of your cattle, nor of your sheep, neither any of your vows which you vow, nor your free offerings, nor the offering of your hands,
12:18But you shall eat it before YHWH your Elohim, in the place which YHWH your Elohim shall choose, you,and your son,and your daughter, and your servant, and your maid, and the Levite that is within your gates:and you shall rejoice before YHWH your Elohim, in all that you put your hand to.
12:19Beware,that you forsake not the Levite, as long as you live upon the earth.
12:20When YHWH your Elohim shall enlarge your border, as he has promised you,and you shall say, I will eat flesh, (because your nephesh longs to eat flesh) you may eat flesh, whatever your nephesh desires.
12:21If the place which YHWH your Elohim has chosen to put his Name there, be far from you, then you shall kill of your bullocks, and of your sheep which YHWH has given you, as I have commanded you,and you shall eat in your gates, whatever your nephesh desires.
12:22Even as the gazelle, and the deer is eaten, so shall you eat them. Both the unclean and the clean shall eat of them alike.
12:23Only be sure that you eat not the blood:for the blood is the nephesh, and you may not eat the nephesh with the flesh.
12:24Therefore you shall not eat it,but pour it upon the earth as water.
12:25You shall not eat it,that it may go well with you;and with your children after you, when you shall do that which is right in the sight of YHWH:
12:26But your holy things which you have, and your vows you shall take up,and come to the place which YHWH shall choose.
12:27And you shall make your burnt offerings of the flesh, and of the blood upon the altar of YHWH your Elohim, and the blood of your offerings shall be poured upon the altar of YHWH your Elohim, and you shall eat the flesh.
12:28Take heed, and hear all these words which I command you, that it may go well with you,and with your children after you forever, when you do that which is good and right in the sight of YHWH your Elohim.
12:29When YHWH your Elohim shall destroy the nations before you, where you go to possess them, and you shall possess them and dwell in their land,
12:30Beware,lest you be taken in a snare after them, after that they be destroyed before you,and lest you ask after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods, that I may do so likewise?
12:31You shall not do so to YHWH your Elohim:for all abomination, which YHWH hates, have they done to their gods:for they have burned both their sons and their daughters with fire to their gods.
Chapter 13
13:1Therefore whatever I command you, take heed you do it:you shall put nothing to it, nor take anything from it.
13:2If there arise among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, (and give you a sign or wonder,
13:3And the sign and the wonder, which he has told you, come to pass) saying, Let us go after other gods, which you have not known, and let us serve them,
13:4You shall not listen to the words of the prophet, or to that dreamer of dreams:for YHWH your Elohim prophet you, to know whether you love YHWH your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your nephesh.
13:5You shall walk after YHWH your Elohim and fear him,and shall keep his commandments, and listen to his voice, and you shall serve him,and cleave to him.
13:6But that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, he shall be slain, because he has spoken to turn you away from YHWH your Elohim (which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and delivered you out of the house of bondage) to thrust you out of the way, in which YHWH your Elohim commanded you to walk: so shall you take the evil away forth of the midst of you.
13:7If your brother, the son of your mother, or your own son, or your daughter, or the wife, that lies in your bosom, or your friend, which is as your own nephesh, entice you secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, (which you have not known, you, I say, nor your fathers)
13:8Any of the gods of the people who are round about you, near to you or far off from you, from the one end of the earth to the other:
13:9You shall not consent to him, nor hear him, neither shall your eye pity him, nor show mercy, nor keep him secret:
13:10But you shall even kill him:your hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and then the hands of all the people.
13:11And you shall stone him with stones, that he die (because he has gone about to thrust you away from YHWH your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage)
13:12That all Israel may hear and fear, and do no more any such wickedness as this among you.
13:13If you shall hear say (concerning any of your cities which YHWH your Elohim has given you to dwell in)
13:14Wicked men are gone out from among you,and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which you have not known,
13:15Then you shall seek, and make search and inquire diligently:and if it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is worked among you,
13:16You shall even slay the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword: destroy it utterly, and all that is in it, and the cattle of it with the edge of the sword.
13:17And you shall gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street of it, and burn with fire the city and all the spoil of it every whit, to YHWH your Elohim: and it shall be a heap forever: it shall not be built again.
13:18And there shall cleave nothing of the damned thing to your hand, that YHWH may turn from the fierceness of his wrath, and show you mercy, and have compassion on you and multiply you, as he has sworn to your fathers:
13:19When you shall obey the voice of YHWH your Elohim, and keep all his commandments which I command you this day, that you do that which is right in the eyes of YHWH your Elohim.
Chapter 14
14:1You are the children of YHWH your Elohim. You shall not cut yourselves, nor make you any baldness between your eyes for the dead.
14:2For you are a holy people to YHWH your Elohim, and YHWH has chosen you to be a precious people to himself, above all the people that are upon the earth.
14:3You shall eat no manner of abomination.
14:4These are the beasts, which you shall eat, the beef, the sheep, and the goat,
14:5The deer,and the gazelle,and the roebuck,and the wild goat,and the ibex,and the antelope,and the mountain sheep.
14:6And every beast that parts the hoof, and cleaves the split into two claws, and is of the beasts that chews the cud, that shall you eat.
14:7But these you shall not eat, of them that chew the cud,and of them that divide and cleave the hoof only:the camel, nor the hare, nor the rock hyrax:for they chew the cud,but divide not the hoof:therefore they shall be unclean to you:
14:8Also the swine, because he divides the hoof, and chews not the cud, shall be unclean to you:you shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcasses.
14:9These you shall eat, of all that are in the waters:all that have fins and scales shall you eat.
14:10And whatever has no fins nor scales, you shall not eat:it shall be unclean to you.
14:11Of all clean birds you shall eat:
14:12But these are they, of what you shall not eat: the eagle, nor the goshawk, nor the osprey,
14:13Nor the red nor the kite, nor the vulture, after their kind,
14:14Nor all kind of ravens,
14:15Nor the ostrich, nor the nightcrow, nor the seagull, nor the hawk after her kind,
14:16Neither the little owl, nor the great owl, nor the redshank,
14:17Nor the pelican, nor the swan, nor the cormorant:
14:18The stork also, and the heron in his kind, nor the hoopoe, nor the bat.
14:19And every creeping thing that flies, shall be unclean to you:it shall not be eaten.
14:20But of all clean fowls you may eat.
14:21You shall eat of nothing that dies alone, but you shall give it to the stranger that is within your gates, that he may eat it:or you may sell it to a stranger:for you are a holy people to YHWH your Elohim. You shall not boil a kid in his mothers milk.
14:22You shall give the tithe of all the increase of your seed, that comes forth of the field year by year.
14:23And you shall eat before YHWH your Elohim (in the place which he shall choose to cause his Name to dwell there) the tithe of your grain, of your wine, and of your oil,and the firstborn of your cattle and of your sheep, that you may learn to fear YHWH your Elohim always.
14:24And if the way be too long for you, so that you are not able to carry it, because the place is far from you, where YHWH your Elohim shall chose to set his Name, when YHWH your Elohim shall bless you,
14:25Then shall you make it in money, and take the money in your hand, and go to the place which YHWH your Elohim shall chose.
14:26And you shall bestow the money for whatever your nephesh desires:whether it be ox, or sheep, or wine, or strong drink, or whatever your nephesh desires:and shall eat it there before YHWH your Elohim, and rejoice, both you,and your household.
14:27And the Levite that is within your gates, shall you not forsake:for he has neither part nor inheritance with you.
14:28At the end of three year you shall bring forth all the tithes of your increase of the same year, and lay it up within your gates.
14:29Then the Levite shall come, because he has no part nor inheritance with you,and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within your gates, and shall eat,and be filled, that YHWH your Elohim may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.
Chapter 15
15:1At the term of seven years you shall make a freedom.
15:2And this is the manner of the freedom:every creditor shall quit the loan of his hand which he has lent to his neighbor:he shall not ask it again of his neighbor, nor of his brother:for the year of YHWH's freedom is proclaimed.
15:3Of a stranger you may require it:but that which you have with your brother, your hand shall remit:
15:4Save when there shall be no poor with you:for YHWH shall bless you in the land, which YHWH your Elohim gives you,for an inheritance to possess it:
15:5So that you listen to the voice of YHWH your Elohim to observe and do all these commandments, which I command you this day.
15:6For YHWH your Elohim has blessed you, as he has promised you:and you shall lend to many nations, but you yourself shall not borrow, and you shall reign over many nations, and they shall not reign over you.
15:7If one of your brethren with you be poor within any of your gates in your land, which YHWH your Elohim gives you, you shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother:
15:8But you shall open your hand to him,and shall lend him sufficient for his need which he has.
15:9Beware that there be not a wicked thought in your heart, to say, The seventh year, the year of freedom is at hand:therefore it grieves you to look on your poor brother, and you give him nothing, and he cry to YHWH against you, so that sin be in you:
15:10You shall give him,and let it not grieve your heart to give to him:for because of this YHWH your Elohim shall bless you in all your works, and in all that you put your hand to.
15:11Because there shall be ever some poor in the land, therefore I command you, saying, You shall open your hand to your brother, to your needy, and to your poor in your land.
15:12If your brother a Hebrew sell himself to you, or a Hebrew, and serve you six year, even in the seventh year you shall let him go free from you:
15:13And when you send him out free from you, you shall not let him go away empty,
15:14But shall give him a liberal reward of your sheep, and of your corn, and of your wine: you shall give him of that with which YHWH your Elohim has blessed you.
15:15And remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and YHWH your Elohim delivered you:therefore I command you this thing today.
15:16And if he say to you, I will not go away from you, because he loves you and your house, and because he is well with you,
15:17Then shall you take a female, and ear his ear through against the door, and he shall be your servant forever:and to your maid servant you shall do likewise.
15:18Let it not grieve you, when you let him go out free from you:for he has served you six years, which is the double worth of a hired servant:and YHWH your Elohim shall bless you in all that you do.
15:19All the firstborn males that come of your cattle, and of your sheep, you shall sanctify to YHWH your Elohim. You shall do no work with your firstborn bullock, nor shear your firstborn sheep.
15:20You shall eat it before YHWH your Elohim year by year, in the place which YHWH shall chose, both you,and your household.
15:21But if there be any blemish in it, as if it be lame, or blind, or have any evil fault, you shall not offer it to YHWH your Elohim,
15:22But shall eat it within your gates:the unclean, and the clean shall eat it alike, as the gazelle, and as the deer.
15:23Only you shall not eat its blood, but pour it upon the ground as water.
Chapter 16
16:1You shall keep the month of Abib, and you shall celebrate the Passover to YHWH your Elohim:for in the month of Abib YHWH your Elohim brought you out of Egypt by night.
16:2You shall therefore offer the Passover to YHWH your Elohim, of sheep and bullocks in the place where YHWH shall chose to cause his Name to dwell.
16:3You shall eat no leavened bread with it: but seven days shall you eat unleavened bread with it, even the bread of tribulation: for you came out of the land of Egypt in haste, that you may remember the day when you came out of the land of Egypt, all the days of your life.
16:4And there shall be no leaven seen with you in all your coasts seven days long:neither shall there remain the night any of the flesh until the morning which you offered the first day at even.
16:5You may not offer the Passover within any of your gates, which YHWH your Elohim gives you:
16:6But in the place which YHWH your Elohim shall choose to place his Name, there you shall offer the Passover at even, about the going down of the sun, in the season that you came out of Egypt.
16:7And you shall roast and eat it in the place which YHWH your Elohim shall choose, and shall return on the morrow, and go to your tents.
16:8Six days shall you eat unleavened bread, and the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to YHWH your Elohim you shall do no work in it.
16:9Seven weeks shall you number to you,and shall begin to number the seven weeks, when you begin to put the sickle to the corn:
16:10And you shall keep the Feast of Weeks to YHWH your Elohim, even a free gift of your hand, which you shall give to YHWH your Elohim, as the Lord your God has blessed you.
16:11And you shall rejoice before YHWH your Elohim, you and your son,and your daughter, and your servant, and your maid, and the Levite that is within your gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which YHWH your Elohim shall choose to place his Name there,
16:12And you shall remember that you were a servant in Egypt:therefore you shall observe and do these ordinances.
16:13You shall observe the Feast of Tabernacles seven days, when you have gathered in your corn, and your wine.
16:14And you shall rejoice in your feast, you,and your son,and your daughter, and your servant, and your maid, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within your gates.
16:15Seven days shall you keep a feast to YHWH your Elohim in the place which YHWH shall choose:when YHWH your Elohim shall bless you in all your increase, and in all the works of your hands, you shall in any case be glad.
16:16Three times in the year shall all the males appear before YHWH your Elohim in the place which he shall choose: in the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and in the Feast of Weeks, and in the Feast of Tabernacles: and they shall not appear before YHWH empty.
16:17Every man shall give according to the gift of his hand, and according to the blessing of YHWH your Elohim, who he has given you.
16:18Judges and officers shall you make you in all your gates, which YHWH your Elohim gives you, throughout your tribes: and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.
16:19Wrest not the Law, nor respect any person, neither take reward:for the reward blinds the eyes of the wise, and perverts the word of the just.
16:20That which is just and right shall you follow, that you may live, and possess the land which YHWH your Elohim gives you.
16:21You shall plant you no grove of any trees near to the altar of YHWH your Elohim, which you shall make for yourself.
16:22You shall set you up no pillar, which thing YHWH your Elohim hates.
Chapter 17
17:1You shall offer to YHWH your Elohim no bullock nor sheep in which is blemish or any evil favored thing: for that is an abomination to YHWH your Elohim.
17:2If there be found among you in any of your gates, which YHWH your Elohim gives you, man or woman that has worked wickedness in the sight of YHWH your Elohim, in transgressing his covenant,
17:3And has gone and served other gods, and worshiped them:as the sun, or the moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded,
17:4And it be told to you,and you have heard it, then shall you inquire diligently:and if it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is worked in Israel,
17:5Then shall you bring forth that man, or that woman (which have committed that wicked thing) to your gates, whether it be man or woman, and shall stone them with stones, till they die.
17:6At the mouth of two or three witnesses shall he that is worthy of death, die:but at the mouth of one witness, he shall not die.
17:7The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him, to kill him:and afterward the hands of all the people:so you shall take the wicked away from among you.
17:8If there rise a matter too hard for you in judgment between blood and blood, between plea and plea, between plague and plague, in the matters of controversy within your gates, then shall you arise, and go up to the place which YHWH your Elohim shall choose,
17:9And you shall come to the Priests of the Levites, and to the judge that shall be in those days, and ask,and they shall show you the sentence of judgment,
17:10And you shall do according to that thing which they of that place (which YHWH has chosen) show you,and you shall observe to do according to all that they inform you.
17:11According to the Law, which they shall teach you,and according to the judgment which they shall tell you, shall you do:you shall not decline from the thing which they shall show you, neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
17:12And that man that will do presumptuously, not listening to the Priest (that stands before YHWH your Elohim to minister there) or to the judge, that man shall die,and you shall take away evil from Israel.
17:13So all the people shall hear and fear, and do no more presumptuously.
17:14When you shall come to the land which YHWH your Elohim gives you, and shall possess it, and dwell in it, if you say, I will set a King over me, like as all the nations that are about me,
17:15Then you shall make him King over you, whom YHWH your Elohim shall choose:from among your brethren shall you make a King over you:you shall not set a stranger over you, which is not your brother.
17:16In any wise he shall not prepare him many horses, nor bring the people again to Egypt, for to increase the number of horses, seeing YHWH has said to you, You shall from now on go no more again that way.
17:17Neither shall he take him many wives, lest his heart turn away, neither shall he gather him much silver and gold.
17:18And when he shall sit upon the throne of his kingdom, then shall he write him this Law write in a book, by the Priests of the Levites.
17:19And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all days of his life, that he may learn to fear YHWH his Elohim, and to keep all the words of this Law, and these ordinances for to do them:
17:20That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not from the commandment, to the right hand or to the left, but that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he,and his sons in the midst of Israel.
Chapter 18
18:1The Priests of the Levites--all,and all the tribe of Levi shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel, but shall eat the offerings of YHWH made by fire, and his inheritance.
18:2Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren:for YHWH is their inheritance, as he has said to them.
18:3And this shall be the Priest's duty of the people, that they who offer sacrifice, whether it be bullock or sheep, shall give to the Priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the stomach.
18:4The first fruits also of your grain, of your wine, and of your oil,and the first of the fleece of your sheep shall you give him.
18:5For YHWH your Elohim has chosen him out of all your tribes, to stand and minister in the Name of YHWH, him,and his sons forever.
18:6Also when a Levite shall come out of any of your gates of all Israel, where he remained, and come with all the desire of his nephesh to the place, which YHWH shall choose,
18:7He shall then minister in the Name of YHWH his Elohim, as all his brethren the Levites, which remain there before YHWH.
18:8They shall have like portions to eat beside that which comes of his sale of his patrimony.
18:9When you shall come into the land which YHWH your Elohim gives you, you shall not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
18:10Let none be found among you that makes his son or his daughter to go through the fire, or that uses witchcraft, or a regarder of times, or a marker of the flying of fowls, or a sorcerer,
18:11Or a charmer, or that spells with spirits, or a soothsayer, or that asks counsel at the dead.
18:12For all that do such things are abomination to YHWH,and because of these abominations YHWH your Elohim does cast them out before you.
18:13You shall be upright therefore with YHWH your Elohim.
18:14For these nations which you shall possess, listen to those that regard the times, and to sorcerers:as for you, YHWH your Elohim has not allowed you so.
18:15YHWH your Elohim will raise up to you a Prophet like to me, from among you, even of your brethren:to him you shall listen,
18:16According to all that you desired of YHWH your Elohim in Horeb, in the day of the assembly, when you said, Let me hear the voice of my YHWH Elohim no more, nor see this great fire any more, that I die not.
18:17And YHWH said to me, They have well spoken.
18:18I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren like to you,and will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him.
18:19And whoever will not listen to my words, which he shall speak in my Name, I will require it of him.
18:20But the prophet that shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that speaks in the name of other gods, even the same prophet shall die.
18:21And if you think in your heart, How shall we know the word which YHWH has not spoken?
18:22When a prophet speaks in the Name of YHWH, if the thing follow not nor come to pass, that is the thing which YHWH has not spoken, but the prophet has spoken it presumptuously:you shall not therefore be afraid of him.
Chapter 19
19:1When YHWH your Elohim shall root out the nations, whose land YHWH your Elohim gives you,and you shall possess them, and dwell in their cities, and in their houses,
19:2You shall separate three cities for you in the midst of your land which YHWH your Elohim gives you to possess it.
19:3You shall prepare you the way,and divide the coasts of the land, which YHWH your Elohim gives you to inherit, into three parts, that every manslayer may flee there.
19:4This also is the reason why the manslayer shall flee there, and live:who so kills his neighbor ignorantly, and hated him not in time passed:
19:5As he that goes to the wood with his neighbor to hew wood, and his hand strikes with the axe to cut down the tree, if the head slip from the helve, and hit his neighbor that he dies, the same shall flee to one of the cities, and live,
19:6Lest the avenger of the blood follow after the manslayer, while his heart is chafed, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him, although he be not worthy of death, because he hated him not in time passed.
19:7Therefore I command you, saying, You shall appoint out three cities for you.
19:8And when YHWH your Elohim enlarges your coasts (as he has sworn to your fathers) and gives you all the land which he promised to give to your fathers,
19:9(If you keep all these commandments to do them, which I command you this day:namely, that you love YHWH your Elohim, and walk in his ways forever) then shall you add three cities more for you besides those three,
19:10That innocent blood be not shed within your land, which YHWH your Elohim gives you to inherit, lest blood be upon you.
19:11But if a man hate his neighbor, and lay wait for him,and rise against him,and smite any man that he die,and flee to any of these cities,
19:12Then the Elders of his city shall send and set him from there, and deliver him into the hands of the avenger of the blood, that he may die.
19:13Your eye shall not spare him,but you shall put away the cry of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with you.
19:14You shall not remove your neighbors mark, which they of old time have set in your inheritance, that you shall inherit in the land, which YHWH your Elohim gives you to possess it.
19:15One witness shall not rise against a man for any trespass, or for any sin, or for any fault that he sins in,but at the mouth of two witnesses or at the mouth of three witnesses shall the matter be established.
19:16If a false witness rise up against a man to accuse him of trespass,
19:17Then both the men who strive together, shall stand before YHWH, even before the Priests and the Judges, which shall be in those days,
19:18And the Judges shall make diligent inquisition:and if the witness be found false, and has given false witness against his brother,
19:19Then shall you do to him as he had thought to do to his brother:so you shall take evil away forth of the midst of you.
19:20And the rest shall hear this, and fear, and shall from now on commit no more any such wickedness among you.
19:21Therefore your eye shall have no compassion, but nephesh for nephesh, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
Chapter 20
20:1When you shall go forth to war against your enemies, and shall see horses and chariots, and people more than you, be not afraid of them:for YHWH your Elohim is with you, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.
20:2And when you are come near to the battle, then the Priest shall come forth to speak to the people,
20:3And shall say to them, Hear, O Israel:you are come this day to battle against your enemies:let not your hearts faint, neither fear, nor be amazed, nor are of them.
20:4For YHWH your Elohim goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, and to save you
20:5And let the officers speak to the people, saying, What man is there that has built a new house, and has not dedicate it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.
20:6And what man is there that has planted a vineyard, and has not eaten of the fruit? Let him go and return again to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another eat the fruit.
20:7And what man is there that has betrothed a wife, and has not taken her? Let him go and return again to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.
20:8And let the officers speak further to the people, and say, Whoever is afraid and faint hearted, let him go and return to his house, lest his brethren heart faint like his heart.
20:9And after that the officers have made an end of speaking to the people, they shall make captains of the army to govern the people.
20:10When you come near to a city to fight against it, you shall offer it peace.
20:11And if it answer you again peaceably, and open to you, then let all the people that is found in it, be tributaries to you, and serve you.
20:12But if it will make no peace with you,but make war against you, then shall you besiege it.
20:13And YHWH your Elohim shall deliver it into your hands, and you shall smite all the males of it with the edge of the sword.
20:14Only the women, and the children, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil of it shall you take to yourself, and shall eat the spoil of your enemies, which YHWH your Elohim has given you.
20:15Thus shall you do to all the cities, which are a great way off from you, which are not of the cities of these nations here.
20:16But of the cities of this people, who YHWH your Elohim shall give you to inherit, you shall save alive nothing that breathes,
20:17But shall utterly destroy them:namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, as YHWH your Elohim has commanded you,
20:18That they do not teach you to do after all their abominations, which they have done to their gods, and so you should sin against YHWH your Elohim.
20:19When you have besieged a city long time, and made war against it to take it, destroy not the trees of it, by smiting an axe into them: for you may eat of them: therefore you shall not cut them down to further you in the siege, (for the tree of the field is man's life)
20:20Only those trees, which you know are not for food, those shall you destroy and cut down, and make forts against the city that makes war with you, until you subdue it.
Chapter 21
21:1If one be found slain in the land, which YHWH your Elohim gives you to possess it, lying in the field, and it is not known who has slain him,
21:2Then your Elders and your Judges shall come forth, and measure to the cities that are round about him that is slain.
21:3And let the Elders of that city, which is next to the slain man, take out of the drove a heifer that has not been put to labor, nor has drawn in the yoke.
21:4And let the Elders of that city bring the heifer to a stony valley, which is neither eared nor sown, and strike off the heifer's neck there in the valley.
21:5Also the Priests the sons of Levi (whom YHWH your Elohim has chosen to minister, and to bless in the name of YHWH) shall come forth, and by their word shall all strife and plague be tried.
21:6And all the Elders of that city that came near to the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley:
21:7And shall testify, and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.
21:8O YHWH, be merciful to Your people Israel, whom You have redeemed, and lay no innocent blood to the charge of your people Israel, and the blood shall be forgiven them.
21:9So shall you take away the cry of innocent blood from you, when you shall do that which is right in the sight of YHWH.
21:10When you shall go to war against your enemies, and YHWH your Elohim shall deliver them into your hands, and you shall take the captives,
21:11And shall see among the captives a beautiful woman, and have a desire to her,and would take her to your wife,
21:12Then you shall bring her home to your house, and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails,
21:13And she shall put off the garment that she was taken in,and she shall remain in your house, and bewail her father and her mother a month long:and after that shall you go in to her,and marry her,and she shall be your wife.
21:14And if you have no favor to her, then you may let her go according to her nephesh, but you shall not sell her for money, nor make merchandise of her, because you have humbled her.
21:15If a man have two wives, one loved and another hated, and they have born him children, both the loved and also the hated:if the firstborn be the son of the hated,
21:16Then when the time comes, that he appoints his sons to be heirs of that which he has, he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is the firstborn:
21:17But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, and give him double portion of all that he has:for he is the first of his strength, and to him belongs the right of the firstborn.
21:18If any man have a son that is stubborn and disobedient, which will not listen to the voice of his father, nor the voice of his mother, and they have chastened him,and he would not obey them,
21:19Then shall his father and his mother take him,and bring him out to the Elders of his city, and to the gate of the place where he dwells,
21:20And shall say to the Elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and disobedient, and he will not obey our admonition:he is a rioter, and a drunkard.
21:21Then all the men of his city shall stone him with stones to death:so you shall take away evil from among you, that all Israel may hear it,and fear.
21:22If a man also have committed a trespass worthy of death, and is put to death, and you hang him on a tree,
21:23His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but you shall bury him the same day:for the curse of Elohim is on him that is hanged. Therefore do not defile your land which YHWH your Elohim gives you to inherit.
Chapter 22
22:1You shall not see your brother's ox nor his sheep go astray, and withdraw yourself from them, but shall bring them again to your brother.
22:2And if your brother be not near to you, or if you know him not, then you shall bring it into your house, and it shall remain with you, until your brother seek after it:then shall you deliver it to him again.
22:3In like manner shall you do with his donkey, and so shall you do with his clothing, and shall so do with all lost things of your brother, who he has lost:if you have found them, you shall not withdraw yourself from them.
22:4You shall not see your brothers donkey nor his ox fall down by the way,and withdraw yourself from them, but shall lift them up with him.
22:5The woman shall not wear that which pertains to the man, neither shall a man put on woman's clothing:for all that do so, are abomination to YHWH your Elohim.
22:6If you find a birds nest in the way, in any tree, or on the ground, whether they be young or eggs, and the mother sitting upon the young, or upon the eggs, you shall not take the mother with the young,
22:7But shall in any wise let the mother go,and take the young to you, that you may prosper and prolong your days.
22:8When you build a new house, you shall make a battlement on your roof, that you do not lay blood upon your house, if any man fall from there.
22:9You shall not sow your vineyard with diverse kinds of seeds, lest you defile the increase of the seed which you have sown, and the fruit of the vineyard.
22:10You shall not plow with an ox and a donkey together.
22:11You shall not wear a garment of diverse sorts, as of woollen and linen together.
22:12You shall make for yourself fringes upon the four quarters of your vesture, with what you cover yourself.
22:13If a man take a wife, and when he has lain with her, hate her,
22:14And lay slanderous things to her charge, and bring up an evil name upon her,and say, I took this wife, and when I came to her, I found her not a maid,
22:15Then shall the father of the maid and her mother take and bring the signs of the maids virginity to the Elders of the city to the gate.
22:16And the maids father shall say to the Elders, I gave my daughter to this man to wife, and he hates her:
22:17And lo, he lays slanderous things to her charge, saying, I found not your daughter a maid:lo, these are the tokens of my daughters virginity:and they shall spread the vesture before the Elders of the city.
22:18Then the Elders of the city shall take that man and chastise him,
22:19And shall condemn him in a hundred shekels of silver, and give them to the father of the maid, because he has brought up an evil name upon a maid of Israel:and she shall be his wife, and he may not put her away all his life.
22:20But if this thing be true, that the maid be not found a virgin,
22:21Then shall they bring forth the maid to the door of her fathers house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones to death:for she has worked folly in Israel, by playing the whore in her fathers house:so you shall put evil away from among you.
22:22If a man be found lying with a woman married to a man, then they shall die even both:namely, the man that lay with the wife, and the wife:so you shall put away evil from Israel.
22:23If a maid be betrothed to a husband, and a man find her in the town and lie with her,
22:24Then shall you bring them both out to the gates of the same city, and shall stone them with stones to death:the maid because she cried not, being in the city, and the man, because he has humbled his neighbors wife:so you shall put away evil from among you.
22:25But if a man find a betrothed maid in the field, and force her,and lie with her, then the man that lay with her, shall die alone:
22:26And to the maid you shall do nothing, because there is in the maid no sin worthy of death: for as when a man rises against his neighbor and wounds him to death, so is this matter.
22:27For he found her in the fields:the betrothed maid cried, and there was no man to succor her.
22:28If a man find a maid that is not betrothed, and take her,and lie with her,and they be found,
22:29Then the man that lay with her, shall give to the maids father fifty shekels of silver:and she shall be his wife, because he has humbled her:he cannot put her away all his life.
Chapter 23
23:1No man shall take his father's wife, nor shall uncover his father's skirt.
23:2None that is hurt by bursting, or that has his male organ cut off, shall enter into the Congregation of YHWH.
23:3A bastard shall not enter into the Congregation of YHWH:even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the Congregation of YHWH.
23:4The Ammonites and the Moabites shall not enter into the Congregation of YHWH:even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the Congregation of YHWH forever,
23:5Because they met you not with bread and water in the way, when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired Balaam against you the son of Beor, of Pethor in Aram-naharaim, to curse you.
23:6Nevertheless, YHWH your Elohim would not listen to Balaam, but YHWH your Elohim turned the curse to a blessing to you, because YHWH your Elohim loved you.
23:7You shall not seek their peace nor their prosperity all your days forever.
23:8You shall not abhor an Edomite:for he is your brother, neither shall you abhor an Egyptian, because you were a stranger in his land.
23:9The children that are begotten of them in their third generation, shall enter into the Congregation of YHWH.
23:10When you go out with the host against your enemies, keep you then from all wickedness.
23:11If there be among you any that is unclean by that which comes to him by night, he shall go out of the host, and shall not enter into the host,
23:12But at even he shall wash himself with water, and when the sun is down, he shall enter into the host.
23:13You shall have a place also without the host where you shall resort,
23:14And you shall have a paddle among your weapons, and when you would sit down without, you shall dig with it, and returning you shall cover your excrements.
23:15For YHWH your Elohim walks in the midst of your camp to deliver you,and to give you your enemies before you:therefore your host shall be holy, that he see no filthy thing in you and turn away from you.
23:16You shall not deliver the servant to his master, which is escaped from his master to you.
23:17He shall dwell with you, even among you, in what place he shall choose, in one of your gates where it likes him best: you shall not vex him.
23:18There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, neither shall there be a whore keeper of the sons of Israel.
23:19You shall neither bring the hire of a whore, nor the price of a dog into the house of YHWH your Elohim for any vow:for even both these are abomination to YHWH your Elohim.
23:20You shall not lend at interest to your brother:interest on money, interest on food, interest on anything that is lent at interest.
23:21To a stranger you may lend at interest, but you shall not lend at interest to your brother, that YHWH your Elohim may bless you in all that you set your hand to, in the land where you go to possess it.
23:22When you shall vow a vow to YHWH your Elohim, you shall not be slack to pay it:for YHWH your Elohim will surely require it of you,and so it should be sin to you.
23:23But when you abstain from vowing, it shall be no sin to you.
23:24That which is gone out of your lips, you shall keep and perform, as you have vowed it willingly to YHWH your Elohim:for you have spoken it with your mouth.
23:25When you come to your neighbors vineyard, then you may eat grapes according to your nephesh, as much as you will:but you shall put none in your vessel.
23:26When you come into your neighbors corn you may pluck the ears with your hand, but you shall not move a sickle to your neighbors corn.
Chapter 24
24:1When a man takes a wife, and is her, if so be she find no favor in his eyes, because he has found some uncleanness in her, then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and put it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
24:2And when she is departed out of his house, and gone her way,and marry with another man,
24:3And if the latter husband hate her,and write her a letter of divorcement, and put it in her hand, and send her out of his house, or if the latter man die which took her to wife:
24:4Then her first husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled:for that is abomination in the sight of YHWH,and you shall not cause the land to sin, which YHWH your Elohim does give you to inherit.
24:5When a man takes a new wife, he shall not go a warfare, neither shall be charged with any business, but shall be free at home one year, and rejoice with his wife which he has taken.
24:6No man shall take the nether nor the upper millstone to pledge:for this gage is his nephesh.
24:7If any man be found stealing a nephesh from his brethren of the children of Israel, and makes merchandise of him, or sells him, that thief shall die:so shall you put evil away from among you.
24:8Take heed of the plague of leprosy, that you observe diligently, and do according to all that the Priests of the Levites shall teach you:take heed you do as I commanded them.
24:9Remember what YHWH your Elohim did to Miriam by the way after that you were come out of Egypt.
24:10When you shall ask again of your neighbor anything lent, you shall not go into his house to fetch his pledge.
24:11But you shall stand without, and the man that borrowed it of you, shall bring the pledge out of the doors to you.
24:12Furthermore if it be a poor body, you shall not sleep with his pledge,
24:13But shall restore him the pledge when the sun goes down, that he may sleep in his clothing, and bless you:and it shall be righteousness to you before YHWH your Elohim.
24:14You shall not oppress a hired servant that is needy and poor, neither of your brethren, nor of the stranger that is in your land within your gates.
24:15You shall give him his hire for his day, neither shall the sun go down upon it: for he is poor, and with it sustains his nephesh: lest he cry against you to YHWH, and it be sin to you.
24:16The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children put to death for the fathers, but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
24:17You shall not pervert the right of the stranger, nor of the fatherless, nor take a widow's clothing to pledge.
24:18But remember that you were a servant in Egypt, and how YHWH your Elohim delivered you from there. Therefore I command you to do this thing.
24:19When you cut down your harvest in your field, and have forgotten a sheaf in the field, you shall not go again to fetch it,but it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow:that YHWH your Elohim may bless you in all the works of your hands.
24:20When you beat your olive tree, you shall not go over the boughs again, but it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
24:21When you gather your vineyard, you shall not gather the grapes clean after you,but they shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
24:22And remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt:therefore I command you to do this thing.
Chapter 25
25:1When there shall be strife between men,and they shall come to judgment, and sentence shall be given upon them, and the righteous shall be justified, and the wicked condemned,
25:2Then if so be the wicked be worthy to be beaten, the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his trespass, to a certain number.
25:3Forty stripes shall he cause him to have and not past, lest if he should exceed and beat him above that with many stripes, your brother should appear despised in your sight.
25:4You shall not muzzle the ox that treads out the corn.
25:5If brethren dwell together, and one of them die and have no son, the wife of the dead shall not marry without:that is, to a stranger, but his kinsman shall go in to her,and take her to wife, and do the kinsmans office to her.
25:6And the firstborn which she bears, shall succeed in the name of his brother who is dead, that his name be not put out of Israel.
25:7And if the man will not take his kinswoman, then let his kinswoman go up to the gate to the Elders, and say, My kinsman refuses to raise up to his brother a name in Israel:he will not do the office of a kinsman to me.
25:8Then the Elders of his city shall call him,and commune with him:if he stand and say, I will not take her,
25:9Then shall his kinswoman come to him in the presence of the Elders, and loose his shoe from his foot, and spit in his face, and answer, and say, So shall it be done to that man, that will not build up his brothers house.
25:10And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him whose shoe is put off.
25:11When men strive together, one with another, if the wife of the one come near, for to rid her husband out of the hands of him who smites him,and put forth her hand, and take him by his privities,
25:12Then you shall cut off her hand:your eye shall not spare her.
25:13You shall not have in your bag two manner of weights, a great and a small,
25:14Neither shall you have in your house diverse measures, a great and a small:
25:15But you shall have a right and just weight:a perfect and a just measure shall you have, that your days may be lengthened in the land, which YHWH your Elohim gives you.
25:16For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, are abomination to YHWH your Elohim.
25:17Remember what Amalek did to you by the way, when you were come out of Egypt:
25:18How he met you by the way,and smote you hindmost of you, all that were feeble behind you, when you were fainted and weary, and he feared not Elohim.
25:19Therefore, when YHWH your Elohim has given you rest from all your enemies round about in the land, which YHWH your Elohim gives you for an inheritance to possess it, then you shall put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven:forget not.
Chapter 26
26:1Also when you shall come into the land which YHWH your Elohim gives you for inheritance, and shall possess it, and dwell in it,
26:2Then shall you take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, and bring it out of the land that YHWH your Elohim gives you,and put it in a basket, and go to the place, which YHWH your Elohim shall chose to place his Name there.
26:3And you shall come to the Priest, that shall be in those days, and say to him, I acknowledge this day to YHWH your Elohim, that I am come to the country which YHWH swore to our fathers for to give us.
26:4Then the Priest shall take the basket out of your hand, and set it down before the altar of YHWH your Elohim.
26:5And you shall answer and say before YHWH your Elohim, A Syrian was my father, who being ready to perish for hunger, went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a small company, and grew there to a nation great, mighty and full of people.
26:6And the Egyptians vexed us,and troubled us,and laded us with cruel bondage.
26:7But when we cried to YHWH Elohim of our fathers, YHWH heard our voice, and looked on our adversity, and on our labor, and on our oppression.
26:8And YHWH brought us out of Egypt in a mighty hand, and an outstretched arm, with great terribleness, both in signs and wonders.
26:9And he has brought us into this place, and has given us this land, even a land that flows with milk and honey.
26:10And now, lo, I have brought the first fruits of the land which You, O YHWH, have given me,and you shall set it before YHWH your Elohim, and worship before YHWH your Elohim:
26:11And you shall rejoice in all the good things which YHWH your Elohim has given to you and to your household, you and the Levite, and the stranger that is among you.
26:12When you have made an end of tithing all the tithes of your increase, the third year, which is the year of tithing, and have given it to the Levite, to the stranger, to the fatherless, and to the widow, that they may eat within your gates, and be satisfied,
26:13Then you shall say before YHWH your Elohim, I have brought the hallowed thing out of my house, and also have given it to the Levites and to the strangers, to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all your commandments which you have commanded me:I have transgressed none of your commandments, nor forgotten them.
26:14I have not eaten of it in my mourning, nor removed any of it while unclean, nor given any of it for the dead, but have listened to the voice of YHWH my Elohim:I have done after all that you have commanded me.
26:15Look down from your holy habitation, even from heaven, and bless your people Israel, and the land which you have given us (as you swore to our fathers) the land that flows with milk and honey.
26:16This day YHWH your Elohim does command you to do these ordinances, and laws:keep them therefore, and do them with all your heart, and with all your nephesh.
26:17You have set up YHWH this day to be your Elohim, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his ordinances, and his commandments, and his laws, and to listen to his voice.
26:18And YHWH has set you up this day, to be a precious people to him (as he has promised you) and that you should keep all his commandments,
26:19And to make you high above all nations (which he has made) in praise, and in name, and in glory, and that you should be a holy people to YHWH your Elohim, as he has said.
Chapter 27
27:1Then Moses with the Elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandments, which I command you this day.
27:2And when you shall pass over Jordan to the land which YHWH your Elohim gives you, you shall set up great stones, and plaster them with plaster,
27:3And shall write upon them all the words of this Law, when you shall come over, that you may go into the land which YHWH your Elohim gives you:a land that flows with milk and honey, as YHWH Elohim of your fathers has promised you.
27:4Therefore when you shall pass over Jordan, you shall set up these stones, which I command you this day in mount Ebal, and you shall plaster them with plaster.
27:5And there shall you build to YHWH your Elohim an altar, even an altar of stones:you shall lift none iron instrument upon them.
27:6You shall make the altar of YHWH your Elohim of whole stones, and offer burnt offerings on it to YHWH your Elohim.
27:7And you shall offer peace offerings, and shall eat there and rejoice before YHWH your Elohim:
27:8And you shall write upon the stones all the words of this Law, well and plainly.
27:9And Moses and the Priests of the Levites spoke to all Israel, saying, Take heed and hear, O Israel:this day you are become the people of YHWH your Elohim.
27:10You shall listen therefore to the voice of YHWH your Elohim, and do his commandments and his ordinances, which I command you this day.
27:11And Moses charged the people the same day, saying,
27:12These shall stand upon mount Gerizim, to bless the people when you shall pass over Jordan:Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Beniamin.
27:13And these shall stand upon mount Ebal to curse:Reuben, Gad,and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan,and Naphtali.
27:14And the Levites shall answer and say to all the men of Israel with a loud voice,
27:15Cursed be the man that shall make any carved or molten image, which is an abomination to YHWH, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and puts it in a secret place:And all the people shall answer, and say:So be it.
27:16Cursed be he that curses his father and his mother:And all the people shall say:So be it.
27:17Cursed be he that removes his neighbors mark:And all the people shall say:So be it.
27:18Cursed be he that makes you blind go out of the way:And all the people shall say:So be it.
27:19Cursed be he that hinders the right of the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow:And all the people shall say:So be it.
27:20Cursed be he that lies with his father's wife:for he has uncovered his father's skirt:And all the people shall say:So be it.
27:21Cursed be he that lies with any beast:And all the people shall say:So be it.
27:22Cursed be he that lies with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother:And all the people shall say:So be it.
27:23Cursed be he that lies with his mother-in-law:And all the people shall say:So be it.
27:24Cursed be he that smites his neighbor secretly:And all the people shall say:So be it.
27:25Cursed be he that takes a reward to put to death innocent blood:And all the people shall say:So be it.
27:26Cursed be he that confirms not all the words of this Law, to do them:And all the people shall say:So be it.
Chapter 28
28:1If you shall obey diligently the voice of YHWH your Elohim, and observe and do all his commandments, which I command you this day, then YHWH your Elohim will set you on high above all the nations of the earth.
28:2And all these blessings shall come on you,and overtake you, if you shall obey the voice of YHWH your Elohim.
28:3Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed also in the field.
28:4Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, and the fruit of your ground, and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your cattle, and the flocks of your sheep.
28:5Blessed shall be your basket and your dough.
28:6Blessed shall you be, when you come in,and blessed also when you go out.
28:7YHWH shall cause your enemies that rise against you, to fall before your face:they shall come out against the one way,and shall flee before you seven ways.
28:8YHWH shall command the blessing to be with you in your store houses, and in all that you set your hand to,and will bless you in the land which YHWH your Elohim gives you.
28:9YHWH shall make you a holy people to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you shall keep the commandments of YHWH your Elohim, and walk in his ways.
28:10Then all people of the earth shall see that the Name of YHWH is called upon over you,and they shall be afraid of you.
28:11And YHWH shall make you plenteous in goods, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of your ground, in the land which YHWH swore to your fathers, to give you.
28:12YHWH shall open to you his good treasure, even the heaven to give rain to your kind in due season, and to bless all the work of your hands:and you shall lend to many nations, but shall not borrow yourself.
28:13And YHWH shall make you the head, and not the tail, and you shall be above only, and shall not be beneath, if you obey the commandments of YHWH your Elohim, which I command you this day, to keep and to do them.
28:14But you shall not decline from any of the words, which I command you this day, either to the right hand or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
28:15But if you will not obey the voice of YHWH your Elohim, to keep and to do all his commandments and his ordinances, which I command you this day, then all these curses shall come upon you,and overtake you.
28:16Cursed shall you be in the town, and cursed also in the field.
28:17Cursed shall your basket be,and your dough.
28:18Cursed shall be the fruit of your body, and the fruit of your land, the increase of your cattle, and the flocks of your sheep.
28:19Cursed shall you be when you come in,and cursed also when you go out.
28:20YHWH shall send upon you cursing, trouble, and shame, in all that which you set your hand to do, until you be destroyed, and perish quickly, because of the wickedness of your works by which you have forsaken me.
28:21YHWH shall make the pestilence cleave to you, until he has consumed you from the land, where you go to possess it.
28:22YHWH shall smite you with a consumption, and with the fever, and with a burning ague, and with fervent heat, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with the mildew, and they shall pursue you until you perish.
28:23And your heaven that is over your head, shall be brass, and the earth that is under you, iron.
28:24YHWH shall give you for the rain of your land, dust and ashes:even from heaven shall it come down upon you, until you be destroyed.
28:25And YHWH shall cause you to fall before your enemies:you shall come out one way against them, and shall flee seven ways before them, and shall be scattered through all the kingdoms of the earth.
28:26And your carcass shall be food for all birds of the air,and to the beasts of the earth, and none shall frighten them away.
28:27YHWH will smite you with the boils of Egypt, and with tumors and hemorrhoids, and with the scab, and with the itch, that you cannot be healed.
28:28And YHWH shall smite you with madness, and with blindness, and with astonishment of heart.
28:29You shall also grope at noon day, as the blind gropes in darkness, and shall not prosper in your ways:you shall never but be oppressed with wrong and be spoiled evermore, and no man shall succor you.
28:30You shall betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: you shall build a house, and shall not dwell in it: you shall plant a vineyard, and shall not eat the fruit.
28:31Your ox shall be slain before your eyes, and you shall not eat of it:your donkey shall be violently taken away before your face, and shall not be restored to you:your sheep shall be given to your enemies, and no man shall rescue them for you.
28:32Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, and your eyes shall still look for them, even till they fall out,and there shall be no power in your hand.
28:33The fruit of your land and all your labors shall a people, who you know not, eat,and you shall never but suffer wrong, and violence always:
28:34So that you shall be mad for the sight which your eyes shall see.
28:35YHWH shall smite you in the knees, and in the thighs, with severe boils, that you cannot be healed:even from the sole of your foot to the top of your head.
28:36YHWH shall bring you and your King (which you shall set over you) to a nation, which neither you nor your fathers have known, and there you shall serve other gods:even wood and stone,
28:37And you shall be a wonder, a proverb and a common talk among all people, where YHWH shall carry you.
28:38You shall carry out much seed into the field, and shall gather but little in:for the grasshoppers shall destroy it.
28:39You shall plant a vineyard, and dress it,but shall neither drink of the wine, nor gather the grapes:for the worms shall eat it.
28:40You shall have Olive trees in all your coasts, but shall not anoint yourself with the oil:for your olives shall fall.
28:41You shall beget sons, and daughters, but shall not have them:for they shall go into captivity.
28:42All your trees and fruit of your land shall the grasshopper consume.
28:43The stranger that is among you, shall climb above you up on high, and you shall come down beneath alow.
28:44He shall lend you,and you shall not lend him:he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail.
28:45Moreover, all these curses shall come upon you,and shall pursue you and overtake you, till you be destroyed, because you obeyed not the voice of YHWH your Elohim, to keep his commandments, and his ordinances, which he commanded you:
28:46And they shall be upon you for signs and wonders, and upon your seed forever,
28:47Because you served not YHWH your Elohim with joyfulness and with a good heart for the abundance of all things.
28:48Therefore you shall serve your enemies which YHWH shall send upon you, in hunger and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in need of all things? And he shall put a yoke of iron upon your neck until he have destroyed you.
28:49YHWH shall bring a nation upon you from far, even from the end of the world, flying swift as an Eagle:a nation whose tongue you shall not understand:
28:50A nation of a fierce countenance, which will not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young.
28:51The same shall eat the fruit of your cattle, and the fruit of your land until you be destroyed, and he shall leave you neither wheat, wine, nor oil, neither the offspring of your cattle, nor the flocks of your sheep, until he has destroyed you.
28:52And he shall besiege you in all your gates, until your high and strong walls fall down, in which you trusted in all the land: and he shall besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which YHWH your Elohim has given you.
28:53And you shall eat the fruit of your body: even the flesh of your sons and your daughters, who YHWH your Elohim has given you, during the siege and distress in which your enemy shall enclose you:
28:54So that the man (that is tender and exceeding dainty among you) shall be grieved at his brother, and at his wife, that lies in his bosom, and at the remnant of his children, who he has yet left,
28:55For fear of giving to any of them of the flesh of his children, whom he shall eat, because he has nothing left him in that siege, and distress, with which your enemy shall besiege you in all your gates.
28:56The tender and dainty woman among you, which never would venture to set the sole of her foot upon the ground (for her softness and tenderness) shall be grieved at her husband that lies in her bosom, and at her son,and at her daughter,
28:57And at her afterbirth (that shall come out from between her feet) and at her children, who she shall bear: for when all things lack, she shall eat them secretly, during the siege and distress, with which your enemy shall besiege you in your gates.
28:58If you will not keep and do all the words of the Law (that are written in this book) and fear this glorious and fearful name YHWH Your Elohim,
28:59YHWH will make your plagues wonderful, and the plagues of your seed, even great plagues and of long continuance, and sore diseases, and of long durance.
28:60Moreover, he will bring upon you all the diseases of Egypt, of what you were afraid, and they shall cleave to you.
28:61And every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this Law, will YHWH heap upon you, until you be destroyed.
28:62And you shall be left few in number, where you were as the stars of heaven in multitude, because you would not obey the voice of YHWH your Elohim.
28:63And as YHWH has rejoiced over you, to do you good, and to multiply you, so he will rejoice over you, to destroy you,and exterminate you,and you shall be rooted out of the land, where you go to possess it.
28:64And YHWH shall scatter you among all people, from the one end of the world to the other, and there you shall serve other gods, which you have not known nor your fathers, even wood and stone.
28:65Also among these nations you shall find no rest, neither shall the sole of your foot have rest:for YHWH shall give you there a trembling heart, and looking to return till your eyes fall out,and a sorrowful nephesh.
28:66And your life shall hang before you,and you shall fear both night and day,and shall have none assurance of your life.
28:67In the morning you shall say, Oh that it were evening, and at the evening you shall say, Oh that it were morning, for the fear of your heart, which you shall fear, and for the sight of your eyes, which you shall see.
28:68And YHWH shall bring you into Egypt again with ships by the way, of which I said to you, You shall see it no more again: and there you shall sell yourselves to your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and there shall be no buyer.
28:69These are the words of the covenant which YHWH commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab beside the covenant which he had made with them in Horeb.
Chapter 29
29:1And Moses called all Israel, and said to them, You have seen all that YHWH did before your eyes in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh and to all his servants, and to all his land,
29:2The great temptations which your eyes have seen, those great miracles and wonders:
29:3Yet YHWH has not given you a heart to perceive, and eyes to see,and ears to hear, to this day.
29:4And I have led you forty year in the wilderness:your clothes are not grown old upon you, neither is your shoe grown old upon your foot.
29:5You have eaten no bread, neither drunk wine, nor strong drink, that you might know how that I am YHWH your Elohim.
29:6After, you came to this place, and Sihon King of Heshbon, and Og King of Bashan came out against us to battle, and we slew them,
29:7And took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of Manasseh.
29:8Keep therefore the words of this covenant and do them, that you may prosper in all that you shall do.
29:9You stand this day every one of you before YHWH your Elohim:your heads of your tribes, your Elders and your officers, even all you men of Israel:
29:10Your children, your wives, and your stranger that is in your camp from the hewer of your wood, to the drawer of your water,
29:11That you should pass into the covenant of YHWH your Elohim, and into his oath which YHWH your Elohim makes with you this day,
29:12For to establish you this day a people to himself, and that he may be to you a Elohim, as he has said to you,and as he has sworn to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
29:13Neither make I this covenant, and this oath with you only,
29:14But aswel with him that stands here with us this day before YHWH our Elohim, as with him that is not here with us this day.
29:15For you know, how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt, and how we passed through the midst of the nations, which you passed by.
29:16And you have seen their abominations and their idols (wood, and stone, silver and gold) which were among them,
29:17That there should not be among you man nor woman, nor family, nor tribe, which should turn his heart away this day from YHWH our Elohim, to go and serve the gods of these nations, and that there should not be among you any root that brings forth gall and wormwood,
29:18So that when he hears the words of this curse, he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, although I walk according to the stubbornness of my own heart, thus adding drunkenness to thirst.
29:19YHWH will not be merciful to him,but then the wrath of YHWH and his jealousy shall smoke against that man,and every curse that is written in this book, shall light upon him,and YHWH shall put out his name from under heaven,
29:20And YHWH shall separate him to evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant, that is written in the book of this Law.
29:21So that the generation to come, even your children, that shall rise up after you, and the stranger, that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they shall see the plagues of this land, and the diseases of it, With what YHWH shall smite it:
29:22(For all that land shall burn with brimstone and salt: it shall not be sown, nor bring forth, nor any grass shall grow in it, like as in the overthrowing of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which YHWH overthrew in his wrath and in his anger)
29:23Then shall all nations say, Why has YHWH done thus to this land? How fierce is this great wrath?
29:24And they shall answer, Because they have forsaken the covenant of YHWH Elohim of their fathers, which he had made with them, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,
29:25And went and served other gods and worshiped them:even gods which they knew not,and which had given them nothing,
29:26Therefore the wrath of YHWH burned hot against this land, to bring upon it every curse that is written in this book.
29:27And YHWH has rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and has cast them into another land, as appears this day.
29:28The secret things belong to YHWH our Elohim, but the things revealed belong to us,and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this Law.
Chapter 30
30:1Now when all these things shall come upon you, either the blessing or the curse which I have set before you,and you shall turn into your heart, among all the nations where YHWH your Elohim has driven you,
30:2And shall return to YHWH your Elohim, and obey his voice in all that I command you this day:you, and your children with all your heart and with all your nephesh,
30:3Then YHWH your Elohim will cause your captives to return, and have compassion upon you,and will return, to gather you out of all the people, where YHWH your Elohim had scattered you.
30:4Though you were cast to the utmost part of heaven, from there will YHWH your Elohim gather you,and from there will he take you,
30:5And YHWH your Elohim will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it,and he will show you favor, and will multiply you above your fathers.
30:6And YHWH your Elohim will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your seed, that you may love YHWH your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your nephesh, that you may live.
30:7And YHWH your Elohim will lay all these curses upon your enemies, and on them, that hate you,and that persecute you.
30:8Return therefore, and obey the voice of YHWH,and do all his commandments, which I command you this day.
30:9And YHWH your Elohim will make you plenteous in every work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of the land for your wealth:for YHWH will turn again, and rejoice over you to do good to you, as he rejoiced over your fathers,
30:10Because you shall obey the voice of YHWH your Elohim, in keeping his commandments, and his ordinances, which are written in the book of this Law, when you shall return to YHWH your Elohim with all your heart and with all your nephesh.
30:11For this commandment which I command you this day, is not hid from you, neither is it far off.
30:12It is not in heaven, that you should say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it us,and cause us to hear it,that we may do it?
30:13Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, Who shall go over the sea for us,and bring it us,and cause us to hear it,that we may do it?
30:14But the word is very near to you:even in your mouth and in your heart, for to do it.
30:15Behold, I have set before you this day life and good, death and evil,
30:16In that I command you this day, to love YHWH your Elohim, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his ordinances, and his laws, that you may live, and be multiplied, and that YHWH your Elohim may bless you in the land, where you go to possess it.
30:17But if your heart turn away, so that you will not obey, but shall be seduced and worship other gods, and serve them,
30:18I pronounce to you this day, that you shall surely perish, you shall not prolong your days in the land, where you pass over Jordan to possess it.
30:19I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may live,
30:20By loving YHWH your Elohim, by obeying his voice, and by cleaving to him:for he is your life, and the length of your days:that you may dwell in the land which YHWH swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.
Chapter 31
31:1Then Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel,
31:2And said to them, I am a hundred and twenty year old this day:I can no more go out and in:also YHWH has said to me, You shall not go over this Jordan.
31:3YHWH your Elohim he will go over before you:he will destroy these nations before you,and you shall possess them. Joshua, he shall go before you, as YHWH has said.
31:4And YHWH shall do to them, as he did to Sihon and to Og Kings of the Amorites:and to their land whom he destroyed.
31:5And YHWH shall give them before you that you may do to them according to every commandment, which I have commanded you.
31:6Pluck up your hearts therefore, and be strong:dread not, nor be afraid of them:for YHWH your Elohim himself does go with you:he will not fail you, nor forsake you.
31:7And Moses called Joshua, and said to him in the sight of all Israel, Be of a good courage and strong:for you shall go with this people to the land which YHWH has sworn to their fathers, to give them, and you shall give it them to inherit.
31:8And YHWH himself does go before you:he will be with you:he will not fail you, neither forsake you:fear not therefore, nor be discomforted.
31:9And Moses wrote this Law,and delivered it to the Priests the sons of Levi (which bore the Ark of the covenant of YHWH) and to all the Elders of Israel,
31:10And Moses commanded them, saying, Every seventh year when the year of freedom shall be in the Feast of Tabernacles:
31:11When all Israel shall come to appear before YHWH your Elohim, in the place which he shall choose, you shall read this Law before all Israel that they may hear it.
31:12Gather the people together:men, and women, and children, and your stranger that is within your gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear YHWH your Elohim, and keep and observe all the words of this Law,
31:13And that their children who have not known it, may hear it,and learn to fear YHWH your Elohim, as long as you live in the land, where you go over Jordan to possess it.
31:14Then YHWH said to Moses, Behold, your days are come, that you must die:Call Joshua, and stand in the Tabernacle of the Congregation that I may give him a charge. So Moses and Joshua went, and stood in the Tabernacle of the Congregation.
31:15And YHWH appeared in the Tabernacle, in the pillar of a cloud:and the pillar of the cloud stood over the door of the Tabernacle.
31:16And YHWH said to Moses, Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers, and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of a strange land (where they go to dwell in it) and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.
31:17Why my wrath will burn hot against them at that day,and I will forsake them, and will hide my face from them:then they shall be consumed, and many adversities and tribulations shall come upon them:so then they will say, Are not these troubles come upon me, because Elohim is not with me?
31:18But I will surely hide my face in that day, because of all the evil, which they shall commit, in that they are turned to other gods.
31:19Now therefore write you this song for you,and teach it the children of Israel:put it in their mouths, that this song may be my witness against the children of Israel.
31:20For I will bring them into the land (which I swore to their fathers) that flows with milk and honey, and they shall eat,and filled themselves, and grow fat:then shall they turn to other gods, and serve them, and contemn me,and break my covenant.
31:21And then when many adversities and tribulations shall come upon them, this song shall answer them to their face as a witness:for it shall not be forgot out of the mouths of their posterity:for I know their imagination, which they go about even now, before I have brought them into the land which I swore.
31:22Moses therefore wrote this song the same day and taught it the children of Israel.
31:23And God gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong, and of a good courage:for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land, which I swore to them, and I will be with you.
31:24And when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this Law in a book until he had finished them,
31:25Then Moses commanded the Levites, which bore the Ark of the covenant of YHWH, saying,
31:26Take the book of this Law,and put it in the side of the Ark of the covenant of YHWH your Elohim, that it may be there for a witness against you.
31:27For I know your rebellion and your stiff neck:behold, I being yet alive with you this day, you are rebellious against YHWH:how much more than after my death?
31:28Gather to me all the Elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their audience, and call heaven and earth to record against them.
31:29For I am sure that after my death you will utterly be corrupt and turn from the way, which I have commanded you:therefore evil will come upon you at the length, because you will become evil in the sight of YHWH, by provoking him to anger through the work of your hands.
31:30Thus Moses spoke in the audience of all the congregation of Israel the words of this song, until he had ended them.
Chapter 32
32:1Give ear, you heavens, and I will speak:and let the earth hear the words of my mouth.
32:2My doctrine shall drop as the rain, and my speech shall still as the dew, as the shower upon the herbs, and as the great rain upon the grass.
32:3For I will publish the name of YHWH:give you glory to our Elohim.
32:4Perfect is the work of the mighty El:for all his ways are judgment. God is true, and without wickedness:just, and righteous is he.
32:5They have corrupted themselves toward him by their vice, not being his children, but a perverse and crooked generation.
32:6Do you so reward YHWH, O foolish people and unwise? Is not he your father, that has bought you? He has made you,and proportioned you.
32:7Remember the days of old:consider the years of so many generations:ask your father, and he will show you:your Elders, and they will tell you.
32:8When the most high God divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he appointed the borders of the people, according to the number of the children of Israel.
32:9For YHWH's portion is his people:Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.
32:10He found him in the land of the wilderness, in a waste, and roaring wilderness:he led him about, he taught him,and kept him as the apple of his eye.
32:11As an eagle stirs up her nest, hovers over her birds, stretches out her wings, takes them, and bears them on her wings,
32:12So YHWH alone led him,and there was no strange god with him.
32:13He carried him up to the high places of the earth, that he might eat the fruits of the fields, and he caused him to suck honey out of the stone, and oil out of the hard rock:
32:14Curds from cattle, and milk of sheep with fat of the lambs, and rams fed in Bashan, and goats, with the fat of the grains of wheat, and the blood of the grape have you drunk.
32:15But he that should have been upright, when he grew fat, spurned with his heel:you are fat, you are gross, you are laden with fatness:therefore he forsook God that made him,and regarded not the strong God of his salvation.
32:16They provoked him with strange gods:they provoked him to anger with abominations.
32:17They offered to demons, not to Elohim, but to gods whom they knew not:new gods that came newly up, whom their fathers feared not.
32:18You have forgotten the mighty El that begot you,and have forgotten God that formed you.
32:19YHWH then saw it,and was angry, for the provocation of his sons and of his daughters.
32:20And he said, I will hide my face from them:I will see what their end shall be:for they are a perverse generation, children in whom is no faith.
32:21They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not El:they have provoked me to anger with their vanities:and I will move them to jealousy with those who are no people:I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.
32:22For fire is kindled in my wrath, and shall burn to the bottom of Sheol, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.
32:23I will spend plagues upon them:I will bestow my arrows upon them.
32:24They shall be burnt with hunger, and consumed with heat, and with bitter destruction:I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the venom of serpents creeping in the dust.
32:25The sword shall kill them without, and in the chambers fear:both the young man and the young woman, the nursing with the man of gray hair.
32:26I have said, I would scatter them abroad:I would make their remembrance to cease from among men,
32:27Save that I feared the fury of the enemy, lest their adversaries should grow proud, and lest they should say, Our high hand and not YHWH has done all this:
32:28For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them.
32:29Oh that they were wise, then they would understand this:they would consider their latter end.
32:30How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their strong God had sold them, and YHWH had shut them up?
32:31For their god is not as our God, even our enemies being Judges.
32:32For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the vines of Gomorrah:their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters be bitter.
32:33Their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel gall of serpents.
32:34Is not this laid in store with me,and sealed up among my treasures?
32:35Vengeance and recompense are mine:their foot shall slide in due time:for the day of their destruction is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them, make haste.
32:36For YHWH shall judge his people, and repent toward his servants, when he sees that their power is gone, and none shut up in hold nor left abroad.
32:37When men shall say, Where are their gods, their mighty Elohim in whom they trusted,
32:38Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, and did drink the wine of their drink offering? Let them rise up,and help you:let him be your refuge.
32:39Behold now,for I, I am he,and there is no gods with me:I kill, and give life:I wound, and I make whole:neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.
32:40For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live forever.
32:41If I whet my glittering sword, and my hand take hold on judgment, I will execute vengeance on my enemies, and will reward them that hate me.
32:42I will make my arrows drunk with blood, (and my sword shall eat flesh) for the blood of the slain, and of the captives, when I begin to take vengeance of the enemy.
32:43The nations, praise his people:for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will execute vengeance upon his adversaries, and will be merciful to his land, and to his people.
32:44Then Moses came and spoke all the words of this song in the audience of the people, he and Joshua the son of Nun.
32:45When Moses had made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel,
32:46Then he said to them, Set your hearts to all the words which I testify against you this day, that you may command them to your children, that they may observe and do all the words of this Law.
32:47For it is no vain word concerning you,but it is your life, and by this word you shall prolong your days in the land, where you go over Jordan to possess it.
32:48And YHWH spoke to Moses the self same day, saying,
32:49Go up into the mountain of Abarim, to the mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho:and behold the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel for a possession,
32:50And die in the mount which you go up to,and you shall be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died in mount Hor,and was gathered to his people,
32:51Because you trespassed against me among the children of Israel, at the waters of Meribah, at Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin:for the sanctified me not among the children of Israel.
32:52You shall therefore see the land before you,but shall not go there, I mean, into the land which I give the children of Israel.
Chapter 33
33:1Now this is the blessing with what Moses the man of Elohim blessed the children of Israel before his death, and said,
33:2YHWH came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir to them, and appeared from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of Saints, and at his right hand a fiery Law for them.
33:3Though he love the people, yet all your Saints are in your hands:and they are humbled at your feet, to receive your words.
33:4Moses commanded us a Law for an inheritance of the Congregation of Jacob.
33:5Then he was among the righteous people, as King, when the heads of the people, and the tribes of Israel were assembled.
33:6Let Reuben live, and not die, though his men be a small number.
33:7And thus he blessed Judah, and said, Hear, O YHWH, the voice of Judah, and bring him to his people:his hands shall be sufficient for him, if you help him against his enemies.
33:8And of Levi he said, Let your Thummim and your Urim be with your Holy one, whom you did prove in Massah, and did cause him to strive at the waters of Meribah.
33:9Who said to his father and to his mother, I have not seen him, neither knew he his brethren, nor knew his own children:for they observed your word, and kept your covenant.
33:10They shall teach Jacob your judgments, and Israel your Law:they shall put incense before your face, and the burnt offering upon your altar.
33:11Bless, O YHWH, his substance, and accept the work of his hands:smite through the loins of them that rise against him,and of them that hate him, that they rise not again.
33:12Of Benjamin he said, The beloved of YHWH shall dwell in safety by him:the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and dwell between his shoulders.
33:13And of Joseph he said, Blessed of YHWH is his land for the sweetness of heaven, for the dew,and for the depth lying beneath,
33:14And for the sweet increase of the sun,and for the sweet increase of the moon,
33:15And for the sweetness of the top of the ancient mountains, and for the sweetness of the old hills,
33:16And for the sweetness of the earth, and abundance of it:and the good will of him that dwelt in the bush, shall come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren.
33:17His beauty shall be like his firstborn bullock, and his horns as the horns of a wild ox:with them he shall smite the people together, even the ends of the world:these are also the ten thousands of Ephraim, and these are the thousands of Manasseh.
33:18And of Zebulun he said, Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out,and you Issachar in your tents.
33:19They shall call the people to the mountain:there they shall offer the sacrifices of righteousness:for they shall suck of the abundance of the sea,and of the treasures hid in the sand.
33:20Also of Gad he said, Blessed be he that enlarges Gad:he dwells as a lion, that catches for his prey the arm with the head.
33:21And he looked to himself at the beginning, because there was a portion of the Lawgiver's hid:yet he shall come with the heads of the people, to execute the justice of YHWH,and his judgments with Israel.
33:22And of Dan he said, Dan is a lion’s cub:he shall leap from Bashan.
33:23Also of Naphtali he said, O Naphtali, satisfied with favor, and filled with the blessing of YHWH, possess the West and the South.
33:24And of Asher he said, Asher shall be blessed with children:he shall be acceptable to his brethren, and shall dip his foot in oil.
33:25Your shoes shall be iron and brass, and your strength shall continue as long as you live.
33:26There is none like El, O righteous people, who rides upon the heavens for your help, and on the clouds in his glory.
33:27The eternal Elohim is your refuge, and under his arms you are forever:he shall cast out the enemy before you,and will say, Destroy them.
33:28Then Israel the fountain of Jacob shall dwell alone in safety in a land of wheat, and wine:also his heavens shall drop the dew.
33:29Blessed are you, O Israel:who is like to you, O people saved by YHWH, the shield of your help, and which is the sword of your glory? Therefore your enemies shall be in subjection to you,and you shall tread upon their high places.
Chapter 34
34:1Then Moses went from the plain of Moab up into mount Nebo to the top of Pisgah that is over against Jericho:and YHWH showed him all the land of Gilead, to Dan,
34:2And all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, to the utmost sea:
34:3And the South, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of trees, to Zoar.
34:4And YHWH said to him, This is the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob saying, I will give it to your seed:I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there.
34:5So Moses the servant of YHWH died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of YHWH.
34:6And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab over against Beth, but no man knows of his sepulchre to this day.
34:7Moses was now a hundred and twenty year old when he died, his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.
34:8And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plain of Moab thirty days:so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.
34:9And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom:for Moses had put his hands upon him. And the children of Israel were obedient to him,and did as YHWH had commanded Moses.
34:10But there arose not a Prophet since in Israel like to Moses (whom YHWH knew face to face)
34:11In all the miracles and wonders which YHWH sent him to do in the land of Egypt before Pharaoh and before all his servants, and before all his land,
34:12And in all that mighty hand and all that great fear, which Moses worked in the sight of all Israel.
